To treat miasma toxin (Zhang Du). Yin deficiency with fever, irritability, cold hands and feet, cool nasal tip, heavy body, black tongue coating, excessive thirst with drinking, spontaneous diarrhea, vomiting and regurgitation, sweating with aversion to wind.
Da Fuzi (one piece, peeled and core removed, divided into four doses) Ganjiang (2 qian, processed by stir-frying)
Decoct with water. For those desiring to drink water, take it cold. Miasma disease with irritability, excessive thirst and drinking.
Black tongue coating indicates floating-up of Yang Qi, extreme heat in the Heart and Lung. Cold hands and feet, cool nasal tip indicate lack of Yang in Spleen Earth, deficiency-cold. Heavy body indicates excess external Cold Qi. Sweating with aversion to wind indicates leakage of Yang Qi externally, inability to protect the skin and hair. The pungent and hot nature of Jiang (Ginger) and Fu (Aconite) can warm the middle and dispel external cold, thereby recovering the leaking Yang Qi. Cold beverages guide the heat of the Heart and Lung downward, while warming the Lower Jiao and guiding the heat of the Upper Jiao downward. When the Middle and Lower Jiao are warm, then cold and heat recede, and all diseases cease.
To treat miasma disease with upper heat and lower cold, cold reversal in legs and feet.
Da Fuzi (5 qian) Chenxiang (ground into thick juice)
Decoct with seven slices of Ginger. Add eight-tenths of the Chenxiang juice while hot. Do not let it become extremely hot. Let it cool before taking.
This medicine primarily addresses upper heat and lower cold; only genuine Chenxiang is excellent. Even if mixed with other woods, it is useless. Moreover, this fragrance has several types. When used for ingestion, one must distinguish them by taste. Those that are sweet and fragrant when chewed have a neutral nature; those that are pungent and spicy have a hot nature. One must carefully select according to the syndrome. Fuzi usually uses smaller pieces, such as Loulu and Cizi, claiming large ones are hard to obtain. However, for Yin toxicity and cold miasma, merely wishing to boost Yang Qi at once is sufficient. If deficiency requires descending Qi and gathering Yang, unless it is authentic Da Fuzi from proper regions, not only will the medicine be ineffective, but it will also be the fault of the prescriber. Miasma disease inherently involves upper heat and lower cold, compounded by cold reversal in legs and feet, meaning Yang Qi of the Kidney Meridian in the Lower Jiao floats entirely upward, leaving the Kidney Meridian extremely empty. This formula uses Fuzi, which is the primary herb for the Kidney Meridian, combined with Chenxiang which can guide Yang Qi from the Upper Jiao down to the Kidney. When Yang Qi exists in the Kidney, the lower origin becomes warm, the root is solidified, and pathogenic factors naturally cease.
