The treatment methods are generally the same. However, for pregnant women, the medicament for insufflation must exclude Pian She (片麝, crystalline musk). The oral medications, such as Fa Banxia (法夏, Prepared Pinellia Rhizome), Nan Xing (南星, Arisaema Cum Bile), Fupian (附片, Processed Aconite Lateralis Radix), Rou Gui (肉桂, Cinnamon Bark), Dahuang (大黄, Rhubarb Radix et Rhizoma), Mangxiao (芒硝, Natrii Sulfas), Niuxi (牛膝, Achyranthes Root), and Houpo (厚朴, Magnolia Bark), etc., can all induce abortion. If the condition is slightly mild, or if the syndrome differentiation is not yet accurate, one must strictly forbid reckless use. If it is indeed a critical syndrome of deficiency-cold, Fuzi (附子, Aconite Lateralis Radix Preparata) and Rougui (肉桂, Cinnamon Bark) must be used to rescue the Yuan Yang (元阳, Primal Yang Qi) that is on the verge of collapse. If it is indeed a critical syndrome of vigorous heat, Xiaoshi (硝石/芒硝, Saltpeter/Natrii Sulfas) and Huanglian/Dahuang (黄/大黄, Rhubarb) must be used to save the Zhen Yin (真阴, True Yin Fluid) that is about to perish. In such cases, one may boldly use them, as "the disease bears the medication," causing no harm to the fetus. However, one should stop taking the medicine once the illness is cured (Zhong Bing Ji Zhi, 中病即止) and avoid overdosing. As stated in the *Classic of Internal Medicine* (*Huangdi Neijing*), "When using toxic substances to treat diseases, remove six or seven parts out of ten [of the pathogen]." This is what is meant.
The treatment methods are generally the same. However, pediatrics is referred to as the "Mute Department" (Ya Ke, 哑科) because children cannot accurately describe their symptoms. Whenever fever, cough, drooling, or crying during nursing occurs, one must examine the throat for any visible abnormalities. If the interior of the throat is red and swollen with white spots appearing, treat according to standard procedures. Nevertheless, since children's blood, bone, and essence are not yet fully developed, the dosage of oral medication should be proportionally reduced based on age and the strength of their constitution. Moreover, children tend to cry, making insufflation difficult. Mild cases can be cured by oral medication alone. For critical and dangerous cases, insufflation is still necessary; one must not refrain from using it due to fear of the child's crying.
(This formula is effective not only for leukorrhea-like throat conditions [Baihou, 白喉] but also for wind-heat throat disorders, as well as toothache and tongue blisters, with miraculous effects. However, real Xiong Dan (熊胆, Bear Gallbladder), Niu Huang (牛黄, Calculus Bovis), and She Xiang (麝香, Moschus) are scarce and expensive, making preparation difficult. Currently, there is another modified formula attached to the end of this collection, which is equally efficacious.)
Ligong Huisheng Dan (离宫回生丹, Palace of Separation Revitalizing Pill): Treats Baihou (Leukorrhea-like Throat Condition) of the heat type, as well as Ru E (乳蛾, Tonsillitis) and Hou Feng (喉风, Throat Wind) syndromes.
Xiong Dan (Bear Gallbladder, 2 qian, if moist, dry over gentle fire in a silver vessel), Xiyang Shen (西洋参, American Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, 2 qian), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, 6 fen), Shancigu (Mountain Garlic Bulb, 1 qian), Pengsha (Borax, 2 qian), Renzhonghuang (Human Middle Yellow, 1 qian), Ercha (Child's Tea/Catechu, 5 fen), Zhen She Xiang (Real Muskmusk, 3 fen), Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis, 5 fen), Da Meipian (Large Camphor Piece, 1 qian), Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba, 7 fen), Zhen Niu Huang (Real Calculus Bovis, 1 qian).
Except for Xiong Dan, Niu Huang, and Pian She, grind all ingredients into an extremely fine powder and sift through silk. Then, mix with Xiong Dan, Niu Huang, and Pian She again, grinding until fine. Store in a porcelain bottle, seal tightly with wax to prevent leakage of aroma. When needed, measure 3 li each time, combine with 3 li of Shen Gen Gong Chu Hai Dan (参艮宫除害丹, Shen Gen Palace Eliminating Harm Pill), and insufflate into the white lesions using a copper insufflator. Hold in the mouth for a moment to allow the toxic vapors to be expelled with saliva, resulting in immediate recovery.
