This condition arises from labor and damage to Qi and Blood, resulting in deficiency and impairment of the Zang-Fu organs. Food fails to be transformed and transported, allowing pathogenic factors to take advantage and invade. This leads to the failure of Yin and Yang to ascend and descend properly, causing turbid and clear Qi to become chaotic in the intestines and stomach. The imbalance of cold and heat, along with the struggle between pathogenic and healthy Qi, gives rise to this syndrome.
If pain caused by blood stasis clots has not yet completely resolved, administer Shenghua Liuhe Tang (Life-Birth Six-Harmony Decoction). (Volume 3, Formula 36)
If blood-related pain has been eliminated, use Huoxiang Wenzhen San (Agastache Stomach-Warming Powder). (Volume 2, Formula 28)
If there is thirst accompanied by a desire to drink water, use Wuling San (Five-Ingredient Powder with Poria). (Volume 4, Formula 5)
If there is reversal coldness of the hands and feet, inquire whether there is no blood-stasis pain; if absent, use Fuzi San (Aconite Powder). (Volume 3, Formula 6)
After childbirth, both Qi and Blood are injured. If wind-cold pathogens contend with the Qi level, Qi rebels upward, causing hiccup. Additionally, if the Spleen and Stomach are deficient and cold, and hot foods are consumed, the conflict between cold and hot Qi disrupts the smooth flow of Qi, resulting in hiccup.
For deficiency-cold of the Stomach Qi, use Dingxiang (Caryophylli Flos), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), and Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex).
For latent heat in the Stomach, use Ganshi (Dried Persimmon) and Zhuru (Bambusae Caulis in Taenia).
For deficiency-heat of the Spleen and Stomach, use Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) and Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata).
For severe deficiency of Middle Qi with flaming-up of ministerial fire, use Bawei Wan (Eight-Ingredient Pill). (Volume 1, Formula 46)
When Ying and Wei Qi suddenly exhaust, and Wei Qi loses its master, gathering solely in the Lung, sudden panting occurs. This represents a critical condition of solitary Yang and exhausted Yin. It should be rescued with a large dose of Chuanxiong Tang (Szechwan Lovage Decoction), or a combination of Shengmai San (Generate Pulse Powder) and Shenghua Tang (Life-Birth Decoction). (Volume 1, Formula 23; Volume 3, Formula 24)
If foul blood enters the Lung, causing inability to lie flat due to restlessness, combine Shenghua Tang (Life-Birth Decoction) with Shixiao San (Instantly Effective Powder), or Liujunzi Tang (Six-Gentleman Decoction) with Shixiao San (Instantly Effective Powder). (Volume 3, Formula 24; Volume 1, Formula 1; Volume 5, Formula 7)
If foul blood is affected by cold, use Taoren (Persicae Semen), Danpi (Moutan Cortex), Fuling (Poria), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), Louren (Benincasae Semen), Bei Wuwei (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus), Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus), Sangbaipi (Mori Cortex), Zisu (Perillae Folium), and Zhishi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus).
If Water-Qi overcomes the Lung, use Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Fuling (Poria), Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix), and Suzi (Perillae Fructus).
For Phlegm generated by Spleen deficiency, use Liujunzi Tang (Six-Gentleman Decoction) added with Jiangzhi (Zingiberis Juice) and Zhuli (Bambusae Sap). (Volume 1, Formula 1)
For panting induced by worry and irritation, use Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum), and Sangbaipi (Mori Cortex).
For panting caused by external contraction, use Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Xuanfuhua (Inulae Flos), Fuling (Poria), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum), and Qianhu (Peucedani Radix).
For shortness of breath resembling panting, use Shenghua Tang (Life-Birth Decoction) (Volume 3, Formula 24) added with Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) and Chenxiang (Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum).
Within six or seven days postpartum, if sudden curling of hands and feet, rapid breathing and panting, nausea, and abdominal pain occur, this indicates Shaoyin channel contraction of cold pathogens. The True Yang within is forced by cold to float upward to the Upper Jiao, presenting as false heat above and true cold below. Decoct Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix), Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), and Wuzhuyu (Evodiae Fructus). Administer in one dose after cooling slightly. If this syndrome appears half a month to a month later, decoct Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Fuling (Poria), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Shudihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata), Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix), Wuzhuyu (Evodiae Fructus), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), and Niuxi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix). These are all difficult-to-treat conditions.
Within seven days postpartum, if external wind-cold causes nasal congestion, aversion to cold, fever, headache, and severe cough, use Jiashen Ningsou Shenghua Tang (Ginseng-Added Calming-Cough Life-Birth Decoction). If there is excessive phlegm, add Huafen (Trichosanthis Radix), or add Zhuli (Bambusae Sap) and Jiangzhi (Zingiberis Juice) for mixing. If there is aversion to cold, do not use Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba); if there is hypochondriac pain, do not use Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix); if there is fire-cough with fever, do not use cold-natured herbs. The general principle is to regulate Qi and Blood. (Volume 3, Formula 37)
If mistaken consumption of Qi-consuming drugs leads to shortness of breath and anorexia, use Renshen Shenghua Tang (Ginseng Life-Birth Decoction) taken with Fan Guojiao Fen (Rice Pot Scorched Crust Powder). (Volume 1, Formula 37)
