Wind-induced tearing initially worsens in winter, but after a long duration, vision becomes blurred with tears in both winter and summer. Cold tears due to Liver deficiency are painless and non-erythematous; hot tears due to excess present with swelling, redness, and pain. For deficiency patterns, Bu Gan Tang (Tonify the Liver Decoction) is used, composed of Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Bai Shao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Ji Li (Tribuli Fructus), Chuan Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Shu Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata), Mu Zei (Equiseti Herba), and Fang Feng (Saposhnikoviae Radix). For excess patterns, Chuan Xiong Cha Tiao San (Chuanxiong Powder Regulated with Tea) is used, composed of Jing Jie (Schizonepetae Spica), Bo He (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba), Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Praeparata cum Melle), Fang Feng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Qiang Huo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Shi Jue Ming (Haliotidis Concha), Ju Hua (Chrysanthemi Flos), Shi Gao (Gypsum Fibrosum), and Chuan Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma).
[Note] The syndrome of tearing upon exposure to wind presents as lacrimation triggered by wind. Initially, it worsens in winter and improves in summer; after a long duration, it persists in both seasons. This is caused by deficient wind and pathogenic heat in the Liver. If the tears are cold without redness or pain, it is a deficiency pattern, suitable for Bu Gan Tang (Tonify the Liver Decoction). If the tears are hot with eyelid swelling, redness, and pain, it is an excess pattern, suitable for Chuan Xiong Cha Tiao San (Chuanxiong Powder Regulated with Tea).

Feng Chi Chuang Yi (Wind-red Eczema/Sores): Sores appear on the eyelids, while the cornea remains intact, but the eyelids are ulcerated and erythematous. This is caused by wind-heat in the Spleen meridian ascending upward; it should be treated urgently. If neglected, nebula may form and cover the pupil. Use Jia Jian Si Wu Tang (Modified Four Substances Decoction), composed of Sheng Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix), Ku Shen (Sophorae Flavescentis Radix), Niu Bang Zi (Arctii Fructus), Bo He (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba), Fang Feng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Chi Shao Yao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra), Tian Hua Fen (Trichosanthis Radix), Lian Qiao (Forsythiae Fructus), Jing Jie Sui (Schizonepetae Spica), and Chuan Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma).
[Note] Feng Chi Chuang Yi (Wind-red Eczema/Sores) originates from the eyelids, while the cornea remains completely healthy, with only the eyelid margins being ulcerated and erythematous. This is caused by wind-heat in the Spleen meridian attacking upwards; it should be treated urgently. If neglected, nebula may form and cover the pupil. Use Jia Jian Si Wu Tang (Modified Four Substances Decoction).
