Bao Feng Ke Re (Wind-Strike Heat) manifests as swelling and pain of the eyelids, excessive tearing with itching, redness, and distension of the Bai Jing (Sclera). This condition originates from Lung heat attracting wind pathogen stagnation; Ju Hua Tong Sheng San (Chrysanthemum Universal Benefit Powder) can achieve efficacy.
[Note] Bao Feng Ke Re syndrome is characterized by swollen and painful eyelids, excessive tearing with itching and redness, and protrusion of the sclera. This syndrome stems from exogenous heat pathogens affecting the Lungs combined with external wind pathogens. Initially, washing is appropriate, followed by the internal administration of Ju Hua Tong Sheng San to clear exogenous heat internally and disperse wind externally.

After Shang Han (Cold Damage) or febrile diseases, residual heat combined with overconsumption of pungent foods leads to dilated pupils, frequent visual obscurations described as black flowers, dry eyes with frequent tearing. If redness, swelling, and pain occur, Sheng Xi Yin (Raw Rhinoceros Horn Decoction) should be used, containing Ling Yang Jiao (Antelope Horn), Fang Feng (Saposhnikovia Root), Huang Qin (Scutellaria Root), Jie Geng (Platycodon Root), Zhi Mu (Anemarrhena Rhizome), Fu Ling (Poria), and Ren Shen (Ginseng).
[Note] Eye disorders occurring after Shang Han or febrile diseases are due to residual heat not yet cleared, compounded by overconsumption of pungent and hot foods. The combination of these two heat pathogens causes dilation of the pupil, frequent perception of black spots, a sensation of hidden dryness with excessive tearing, redness, swelling, and pain. It is suitable to use Sheng Xi Yin to clear and resolve the heat.

Gan Xu Ji Re (Liver Deficiency with Accumulated Heat) presents with intermittent attacks. Initially, there is redness, swelling, pain, and photophobia. Over years, nebulae form leading to gradual dimness of vision. Qing Xiang Wan (Celosia Pill) should be used, containing Tu Si Zi (Dodder Seed), Chong Wei Zi (Agastache Seed), Sheng Di Huang (Rehmannia Root), Qing Xiang Zi (Celosia Seed), Fang Feng (Sapothnikovia Root), Wu Wei Zi (Schisandra Fruit), Hei Shen (Black Ginseng/Prepared Ginseng), Chai Hu (Bupleurum Root), Ze Xie (Alisma Rhizome), Xi Xin (Asarum Root), Che Qian Zi (Plantago Seed), and Fu Ling (Poria).
[Note] Gan Xu Ji Re syndrome features intermittent onset and remission. Initially, it presents with redness, swelling, pain, dryness, tearing, and difficulty opening the eyes; over time, it worsens, forming nebulae and causing blurred vision. It is suitable to treat with Qing Xiang Zi Wan.
