Baochi Shengyi (Acute Red Eye with Corneal Opacity) originates from disorders of the Heart and Liver meridians. Wind-Heat pathogenic factors ascend and obstruct, causing severe and unbearable pain. The eyes are red and swollen, with hot tears flowing, photophobia, and itching. It is most suitable to use Xichuxueliang (Blood-Washing Good Remedy) for washing. In the initial stage, first administer Lugenyin (Reed Rhizome Decoction), which contains Heishen (Black Ginseng), Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome), Mangxiao (Mirabilite), Dahuang (Rhubarb Root and Rhizome), Huangqin (Scutellaria Root), and Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia Root). To remove opacity and calm the Liver, Zhen Gan Wan (Liver-Calming Pill) can be used, containing Shijueming (Abalone Shell), Xinyi (Magnolia Flower), Shanyao (Chinese Yam), Renshen (Ginseng Root), Fuling (Poria), Cheqianzi (Plantago Seed), Wuweizi (Schisandra Fruit), and Qianghuo (Notopterygium Root).
[Note] Baochi Shengyi presents with symptoms of redness, swelling, corneal opacity, unbearable itching and pain, frequent hot tears, and photophobia. This is caused by Wind-Heat in the Heart and Liver meridians ascending and attacking the eyes. It is appropriate to wash with Xichuxueliang, then take Lugenyin Zi to clear internal heat, followed by Zhen Gan Wan. The character "Xi" (Wash) is pronounced like "Lian". "Xi" refers to slightly pricking the affected area with a needle tip or gently scraping it with a rush pith.
Lugenyin Zi Formula:
Lugen (Reed Rhizome, 1 qian), Heishen (Black Ginseng, 1.5 qian), Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome, 1 qian), Mangxiao (Mirabilite, 1 qian), Dahuang (Rhubarb Root and Rhizome, 1 qian), Huangqin (Scutellaria Root, 1.5 qian), Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia Root, 1 qian).
Grind the above into coarse powder. Add two cups of water, decoct until one cup remains. Strain and take warm after meals.
Zhen Gan Wan Formula:
Ben (1.5 liang - *Note: Original text says 'Ben', likely a typo or specific local herb, kept as literal*), Shijueming (Abalone Shell, 2 liang), Xixin (Asarum Root, 3 qian), Shanyao (Chinese Yam, stir-fried), Renshen (Ginseng Root), Fuling (Poria), Cheqianzi (Plantago Seed, each 1 liang), Wuweizi (Schisandra Fruit, 3 qian), Qianghuo (Notopterygium Root, 1 liang).
Sieve into fine powder. Make pills with refined honey, size of tung tree seeds. Take 3 qian on an empty stomach with clear tea.
Xueguan Tongren (Hyphema/Blood in Pupil) causes eye pain, resembling blood filling the eye, with identical coloration. Due to heat consuming bile and liver blood, blood is forced by fire to pour into the pupil area. Urgently use Zhengtong Moyao San (Myrrh Pain-Relieving Powder), containing Xiaohuang (Mirabilite and Rhubarb) and Xuexie (Dragon's Blood), guided by clear tea. After pain subsides, take Dahuang Danggui San (Rhubarb and Angelica Decoction), containing Zeiqin (Huangqin/Scutellaria), Zhizi (Gardenia Fruit), Juhua (Chrysanthemum Flower), Sumu (Sappan Wood), and Hong (Honghua/Safflower).
[Note] Xueguan Tongren presents with eye pain and a pupil area appearing red as if filled with blood. The cause is consumption of liver blood due to heat and deficiency of bile; blood is forced by fire to enter the pupil. It is appropriate to take Zhengtong Moyao San. After pain stops, take Dahuang Danggui San.
Zhengtong Moyao San Formula:
Moyao (Myrrh, 2 liang), Mangxiao (Mirabilite, 1.5 liang), Dahuang (Rhubarb Root and Rhizome, 1.5 liang), Xuexie (Dragon's Blood, 1 liang).
Pound and sieve into fine powder. Take 1 qian mixed with hot clear tea after meals.
Dahuang Danggui San Formula:
Dahuang (Rhubarb Root and Rhizome, 1 liang), Danggui (Angelica Sinensis Root, 2 qian), Muzei (Equisetum Hiemale Stem, 1 liang), Huangqin (Scutellaria Root, 1 liang), Zhizi (Gardenia Fruit, 5 qian), Juhua (Chrysanthemum Flower, 3 qian), Sumu (Sappan Wood, 5 qian), Honghua (Safflower, 8 qian).
Grind into uniform fine powder. Take 2 qian each time, mixed with clear tea taken well after meals.
