Mei Pan Jing (Pterygium) begins at the inner canthus. Initially, it gradually invades the Feng Lun (cornea), and over time covers the Tong Ren (pupil). Symptoms include itching or pain, with gradual accumulation of pus. If caused by chronic Chi Lan (blepharitis) leading to Lung Heat congestion, applying Zijin Gao (Purple Gold Ointment) is effective in the early stage; for long-standing cases, surgical methods such as hooking, cutting, cauterization, and moxibustion are appropriate, accompanied by internal administration of Chufeng Tang (Wind-Expelling Decoction) containing Chongweizi (Chenopodii Semen), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), and Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix).
[Note] The condition of Mei Pan Jing (Pterygium) originates at the inner canthus. Initially, it gradually encroaches upon the Feng Lun (cornea); later, it extends beyond the Tong Ren (pupil). It may present with itching or pain, and gradually accumulates purulent discharge. This condition is mostly caused by prolonged Chi Lan (blepharitis) or excessive Wind-Heat congesting the Lung Meridian. In the initial stage, Zijin Gao (Purple Gold Ointment) can be applied, causing blood stasis to resolve spontaneously. When the tissue becomes tough and difficult to dissolve after a long duration, surgical hooking and cutting followed by cauterization are required, after which Chufeng Tang (Wind-Expelling Decoction) should be taken.
Chufeng Tang (Wind-Expelling Decoction) Formula:
Chongweizi (Chenopodii Semen) (1 qian)
Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix) (1 qian)
Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) (5 fen)
Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) (1 qian)
Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus) (5 fen)
Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) (1 qian)
Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) (1 qian)
Grind the above ingredients into powder. Add two cups of water, decoct until one cup remains. Strain and take warm after meals.
Zijin Gao (Purple Gold Ointment) (See formula at the end of this volume)
Ji Guan Xian Rou (Comb-like Pterygium) grows inside the Pi Jian (eyelids). It results from accumulated Heat in the Stomach and Heart combined with Liver Wind. Its color may be green or red, resembling the comb of a rooster or the flesh of a clam. Mild cases invade the Feng Lun (cornea); severe cases cover the Tong Ren (pupil). After surgical hooking and cutting, administer Choufeng Jie Tang (Wind-Drawing Platycodon Decoction) containing Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Cheqianzi (Plantaginis Semen), Heishen (Polygonati Rhizoma), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), and Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix); or administer Chongwei Wan (Chenopodium Pill) containing Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Shijueming (Concha Arcae), Heishen (Polygonati Rhizoma), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Fuling (Poria), Shanyao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma), Shengdihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Recens), and Chongweizi (Chenopodii Semen).
[Note] The condition of Ji Guan Xian Rou (Comb-like Pterygium) originates within the Pi Jian (eyelids). It may appear green or red, resembling the shape of a rooster's comb or clam flesh. It grows gradually, invading from the inner canthus to the Feng Lun (cornea), and eventually covers the entire eye. This is caused by accumulated Heat in the Spleen and Stomach with Liver Wind rushing upward. Initially, manual surgical hooking and cutting should be performed, followed by the administration of Choufeng Tang (Wind-Drawing Decoction) or Chongwei Wan (Chenopodium Pill).
Choufeng Tang (Wind-Drawing Decoction) Formula:
Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix) (1 qian)
Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas) (1.5 qian)

Cheqianzi (Plantaginis Semen) (1 qian)
Heishen (Polygonati Rhizoma) (1.5 qian)
Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) (1 qian)
Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) (1.5 qian)
Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) (2 qian)
Grind the above ingredients into coarse powder. Add two cups of water, decoct until one cup remains. Strain and take warm after meals.

Heishen (Polygonati Rhizoma) (1 liang)
Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) (1 liang)
Fuling (Poria) (1 liang)
Shanyao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma) [stir-fried] (2 liang)
Shengdihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Recens) (1.5 liang)
