[Preparation Method of Guilian Decoction]
Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis), Huanglian (Rhizoma Coptidis), Huangqin (Radix Scutellariae) (each 1 qian), Tonglü (Chlorocupri), Pixa (Natrii Sulfas), Baifan (Alumen).
(each 0.7 qian)
Place in a silk bag, decoct with water to make a wash solution.
Another prescription:
Huanglian (Rhizoma Coptidis) (5 fen, chopped), Danfan (Calcarated Cupri Sulfate) (a small amount, finely ground). Mix the ginger juice (Jiangzhi) with the Huanglian, bake until dry. Take half a tea cup of human milk (Renru), put the powdered medicine inside, steam until cooked. When yellow foam appears, remove it, and let it cool and solidify. Instill one drop of this milk-based preparation into the eye; hot tears will flow out, and efficacy will be achieved within one day. Avoid smoke during washing, and avoid wind after washing.
(Wash and instill for swollen and ulcerated eyes)
One large autumn white pear, peel it, cut off a small portion of the top to serve as a lid, remove the core completely, insert 3 qian of Huanglian powder, replace the pear lid, secure the surroundings with bamboo nails, place in a bowl, and stew thoroughly over boiling water. Filter the thick juice, boil in a copper spoon without making it too thick, cool and solidify. Add Bingpian (Borneolum Syntheticum) 3 fen and Pengsha (Borax) 6 fen, mix evenly. Use a bone stick to apply to the eye. For eyes that are severely swollen and ulcerated, with burning heat sensation, where instillation or washing is intolerable, this formula produces immediate results.
Select high-quality Lulganshi (Calamina), load into a silver pot, cover with a tile, calcine over strong fire until "golden flowers" appear. Remove with tongs, soak in tongbian (urine of a healthy young boy) for a moment, clarify and discard the urine. Then use Huanglian decoction to levigate the Calamina one or two times. The next day, discard the Huanglian water, seal with paper and dry in the sun. Then add the juice extracted from the group of herbs. The group of herbs consists of:
Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis), Chuanxiong (Rhizoma Chuanxiong), Manjingzi (Fructus Viticis), Caojueming (Semen Cassiae), Chaihu (Radix Bupleuri), Qianghuo (Rhizoma Notopterygii), Fangfeng (Radix Saposhnikoviae), Bohe (Herba Menthae), Mimenghua (Flos Buddlejae), Jingjiesui (Cacumen Schizonepetae), Baizhi (Radix Angelicae Dahuricae), Huangqin (Radix Scutellariae), Cangzhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis), Muzei (Herba Equiseti), Binglang (Semen Arecae), Chantui (Periostracum Cicadae), Juhua (Flos Chrysanthemi), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae). For every 1 liang of Lulganshi, use 5 fen of each herb in the group. Decoct the juices, clarify overnight, pour into the Calamina, stir dozens of times, seal the bowl mouth with paper, dry in the sun to form the "Dan tou" (core of the pill).
Processed Lulganshi (Calamina) (7 qian), Sublimated Pengsha (Borax) (3 qian), Da Bingpian (Borneolum Syntheticum) (7 fen), Zhen Shexiang (Moschus) (2 fen).
Grind together into fine powder, bind with refined honey to form pills, shape into strips, coat with Guanfen (lead carbonate powder), pack into goose quills, and seal tightly.
