Jing (Fright), Gan (Infantile Malnutrition), Vomiting, and Diarrhea constitute the entirety of pediatric diseases. However, Jing, Gan, Vomiting, and Diarrhea must be discussed separately. People often casually refer to these conditions as "Wind-Stroke" (Jing Feng). Who knows that while children indeed suffer from Fright (Jing), they do not suffer from external Wind (Feng). Children possess a body of pure Yang (Chun Yang), which is unsuitable for the invasion of external wind. The symptoms resembling wind movement arise because excessive Yang in children generates internal heat; when heat reaches its extreme, it generates wind. This wind is not an external wind but an internal wind. How can internal wind be treated as external wind? If treated as such, the child will die. The correct method is to clear fire internally and calm fright externally, without using wind-dispelling herbs for superficial dispersal. I now specially transmit a miraculous formula named Qing Huo San Jing Tang (Clear Fire Scatter Fright Decoction). It consists of Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma) 3 fen, Fu Ling (Poria) 2 qian, Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) 1 fen, Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) 1 fen, Zhi Zi (Gardeniae Fructus) 3 fen, Bai Shao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) 1 qian, Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) 1 fen, Chai Hu (Bupleuri Radix) 3 fen. Decoct with water, take 3 fen volume. This formula is a holy medicine for invigorating the Spleen and soothing the Liver. When the Liver is soothed, fire dissipates; when the Spleen is strong, fright stops. Added are herbs that clear fire and scatter phlegm, so naturally, once the medicine enters the throat, the wind-stroke settles.
Gan syndrome (Infantile Malnutrition) is essentially Spleen Heat, but it also arises because Heart Fire causes Spleen Fire to become extremely hyperactive, leading to drooling from the mouth. If one does not pacify Heart Fire, Spleen Fire will become even more hyperactive, causing damp-heat to steam upwards, making it impossible to stop the drooling quickly. The treatment should not merely clear Spleen Fire but should first disperse Heart Fire. Use Zhi Gan San (Stop Gan Powder). Lu Hui (Aloe) 1 qian, Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma) 3 fen, Bo He (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba) 3 fen, Fu Ling (Poria) 2 qian, Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) 1 fen, Sang Bai Pi (Mori Cortex) 1 qian, Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) 3 fen. Decoct with water, take 3 fen volume. This formula is a holy medicine for clearing both Heart and Spleen, not specifically only clearing the Spleen. By guiding water downwards, damp-heat is naturally removed; once damp-heat is gone, the Gan disease heals itself.
Vomiting symptoms, although stemming from weak Stomach Qi, are also due to deficient Spleen Qi. Because children eat indiscriminately and to excess, food fails to digest, stagnating in the Spleen over time. Later, it rushes upward to the stomach opening, and eventually leads to severe vomiting. Therefore, treating vomiting requires first treating the Stomach, and treating the Stomach particularly requires first treating the Spleen. I have a miraculous formula with rapid effect for stopping vomiting, named Ding Tu Tang (Stabilize Vomiting Decoction). Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix) 1 qian, Sha Ren (Amomi Fructus) 1 grain, Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma) 5 fen, Fu Ling (Poria) 2 qian, Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) 2 fen, Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) 1 fen, Gan Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) 1 fen, Mai Ya (Hordei Fructus Germinatus) 5 fen, Shan Zha (Crataegi Fructus) 3 grains. Decoct with water. In summer, add Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma) 3 fen; in winter, add Gan Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) 1 fen. There is no case that does not heal. This formula is a variation of Liu Jun Zi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction), a holy medicine for treating the Spleen and Stomach. When the Spleen and Stomach are harmonious, transformation and transportation are rapid, and food naturally moves downward without vomiting upward. With appropriate modifications in the formula and methods for resolving accumulation, how could it fail to produce miraculous results?
Diarrhea symptoms are specifically attributed to the Spleen. Theoretically, decoctions can be effective, but diarrhea varies: there is Fire Diarrhea and Cold Diarrhea, which must be distinguished. In Fire Diarrhea, the child's body feels hot like fire, with thirst and dry tongue, preferring cold drinks and rejecting hot soups. If the previous formula is used, it will cause further suffering. I have another miraculous formula named Xie Huo Zhi Xie Tang (Drain Fire Stop Diarrhea Decoction). Che Qian Zi (Plantaginis Semen) 2 qian, Fu Ling (Poria) 1 qian, Bai Shao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) 1 qian, Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma) 3 fen, Ze Xie (Alismatis Rhizoma) 5 fen, Zhu Ling (Polyporus) 3 fen, Mai Ya (Hordei Fructus Germinatus) 1 qian, Zhi Ke (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus) 2 fen. Decoct with water. One dose stops diarrhea. Che Qian Zi, Fu Ling, Ze Xie, and Zhu Ling are all holy medicines for stopping diarrhea by separating water. Bai Shao soothes the Liver to prevent Wood from overacting on Earth. Huang Lian clears Heart Fire to prevent it from assisting Spleen Heat. Mai Ya and Zhi Ke resolve stagnant Qi to unblock water passages. Without explicitly aiming to stop diarrhea, the diarrhea stops itself. In Cold Diarrhea, there is abdominal pain relieved by massage, no dryness in the mouth, a slippery tongue, preference for hot soup, and rejection of cold drinks. This condition cannot be treated with fire-draining decoctions. Wu Ling San (Five-Ingredient Powder with Poria) can be used, yet Wu Ling San lacks tonification. Children suffering from Cold Diarrhea inevitably severely injure Spleen Qi. Once Spleen Qi is injured, only Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix) can save it. Wu Ling San without Ren Shen can only stop diarrhea but cannot instantly restore Yuan Qi (Primordial Qi). I now transmit a miraculous formula named San Han Zhi Xie Tang (Dispel Cold Stop Diarrhea Decoction). Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix) 1 qian, Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma) 1 qian, Fu Ling (Poria) 2 qian, Rou Gui (Cinnamomi Cortex) 2 fen, Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) 1 fen, Gan Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) 2 fen, Sha Ren (Amomi Fructus) 1 grain, Shen Qu (Massa Medicata Fermentata) 5 fen. Decoct with water. Ren Shen, Fu Ling, and Bai Zhu in this formula are divine products for invigorating the Spleen and replenishing Qi, and holy medicines for separating dampness and promoting urination. Added are Rou Gui and Gan Jiang to dispel cold, and Sha Ren, Gan Cao, and Shen Qu to harmonize. Thus, cold wind naturally exits, and diarrhea stops immediately.
Lei Gong Zhen Jun said: Pediatric Jing (Fright) syndromes are fundamentally based on Qi Deficiency. If treated as Wind, death is inevitable. If Wind is treated while simultaneously tonifying deficiency, life may barely be preserved, but it is absolutely forbidden to treat it as Wind. I now specially transmit a miraculous formula named Ya Jing Tang (Suppress Fright Decoction). Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix) 5 fen, Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma) 5 fen, Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) 3 fen, Fu Shen (Poria with Hostwood) 1 qian, Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) 3 fen, Shen Qu (Massa Medicata Fermentata) 5 fen, Sha Ren (Amomi Fructus) 1 grain, Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) 1 fen, Dan Sha (Cinnabaris) 3 fen. Decoct with water. This is also a variation of Liu Jun Zi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction). Children only have Spleen disease; treating the Spleen naturally stabilizes the Fright. Therefore, Liu Jun Zi Tang is used to invigorate the Spleen, with a few added ingredients to suppress fright, producing miraculous results.
Pediatric vomiting and diarrhea are caused by food injury. Indiscriminate overeating makes digestion difficult; if not vomited up, it must be diarrheated. Also use the previous formula, Liu Jun Zi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction). For vomiting, remove Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) and add Sha Ren (Amomi Fructus); for diarrhea, add Che Qian Zi (Plantaginis Semen). Miraculous results will occur shortly. If one does not know to tonify the Spleen but only seeks to digest and purge, this is not saving the child's life but sending them to death. I wish everyone to listen respectfully to my words and jointly help children reach a hundred years of age.
When a newborn refuses to suckle milk, it is due to Heart Heat. Boiling milk with Cong Bai (Allii Macrostemonis Bulbus) for the child to drink is also wonderful. However, it is not as effective as using Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma) 3 fen, decocting into 1 fen volume of liquid, and administering several spoonfuls to the child, after which they will immediately suckle milk. This is a miraculous effect.
For a newborn whose umbilical fluid does not dry, stir-fry Che Qian Zi (Plantaginis Semen) until charred, grind into fine powder, and apply topically. It dries immediately. This is a miraculous effect.
If a child's umbilicus protrudes by about half a cun, this is due to vigorous Qi failing to retract. If not urgently stabilized, it often transforms into Opisthotonos (Jiao Gong Fan Zhang). Use Fu Ling (Poria) 1 qian, Che Qian Zi (Plantaginis Semen) 1 qian, Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) 2 fen, Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) 3 fen, Tong Cao (Tetrapanacis Medulla) 3 fen. If Tong Cao is unavailable, use Deng Xin Cao (Junci Medulla) as a ball. Decoct together and administer orally. One dose brings peace. This is a miraculous formula.
