Chen Shiduo said: The treatment for men and women is originally without distinction; however, there are also specific differences. The areas where men differ from women lie in hernia diseases (hernia), persistent erection (persistent erection), and impotence (impotence). Although hernias vary, the only difference compared to women is specifically "fox hernia" (a type of inguinal hernia characterized by intermittent protrusion); the rest are identical. Fox hernia refers to a condition where the swelling retracts above the scrotum during the day and hangs below the scrotum at night. This arises from cold-dampness combined with pathogenic qi of abnormal yin and yang, contracted during sexual intercourse, or near the Shen Dao (spiritual path), or amidst wind-damp conditions. The prescription uses Du Ruo (Radix Polliae) 5 qian, crushed to extract juice, used to wash the affected area; take one bowl of this juice, add Sha Shen (Radix Adenophorae seu Glehniae) 1 liang, Rou Gui (Cortex Cinnamomi) 1 qian, Gui Zhi (Ramulus Cinnamomi) 1 qian, Xiao Hui Xiang (Fructus Foeniculi) 1 qian, Ju He (Semen Citri Reticulatae) 1 qian, decocted in water and taken orally. (Commentary: Fu Zheng Qu Shan Tang [Support Righteousness and Expel Hernia Decoction]). After one dose, it extends; after two doses, it subsides; after three doses, full recovery occurs. This is a miraculous formula.
Persistent erection results from deficient fire flaring upward, preventing the Qi of Lung Metal from descending. If Huang Bo (Cortex Phellodendri) and Zhi Mu (Rhizoma Anemarrhenae) are decocted in water and drunk, the condition dissipates immediately. However, once the erection subsides, the inability to regain potency for months or years is indeed painful. The prescription uses Yuan Shen (Radix Scrophulariae) 3 liang, Rou Gui (Cortex Cinnamomi) 3 fen, Mai Dong (Tuber Ophiopogonis) 3 liang, decocted in water and taken orally, which will cause the erection to subside. (Commentary: Yang Yang Tang [Nourish Yang Decoction]). The brilliance of this formula lies in using Yuan Shen to drain the floating fire in the Kidney, and particularly in using 3 fen of Rou Gui to guide the fire back to its residence, dispersing the boiling fire through the principle of similar energies attracting each other. Furthermore, Mai Dong assists the Qi of Lung Metal, clearing and purifying its descent to generate Kidney Water; when Water is sufficient, Fire naturally extinguishes. Thus, the erection subsides naturally without being forced. Later, potency can be restored for renewed intimacy.
As for impotence, it stems from excessive indulgence, daily depleting the Water of the Kidney, causing the Fire of the Kidney to gradually perish. Since Water departs, Fire must also depart; this is an inevitable principle. It is like a household: if there is no water in the kitchen, how can one cook rice and produce steam? One must draw from the spring source, then gather fuel, to kindle fire by drilling wood, thereby cooking food and drink; otherwise, how can one cook in an empty pot? The prescription uses Shu Di (Radix Rehmanniae Preparata) 1 liang, Shan Zhu Yu (Fructus Corni) 4 qian, Yuan Zhi (Radix Polygalae) 1 qian, Ba Ji Tian (Radix Morindae Officinalis) 1 qian, Rou Cong Rong (Herba Cistanche) 1 qian, Rou Gui (Cortex Cinnamomi) 2 qian, Ren Shen (Radix Ginseng) 3 qian, Gou Qi Zi (Fructus Lycii) 3 qian, Fu Shen (Poria cum Radice) 2 qian, Du Zhong (Cortex Eucommiae) 1 qian, Bai Zhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae) 5 qian, decocted in water and taken orally. (Commentary: Qi Yang Zhi Shen Dan [Revitalize Yang Supreme Spirit Pill]). One dose restores function, two doses strengthen, three doses yield marvelous results. For the elderly, double the dosage. This formula employs warming herbs within a water-nourishing base, so that Fire rises without fear of burning damage, naturally allowing for cooking and nourishment. It prevents the cauldron from drying out or bursting, representing the methods for treating male disorders.
Master Zhang said: The methods for treating men are exquisite, yet I have several formulas to pass on as well. Formula for Fox Hernia: Use Bai Zhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae) 5 qian, Sha Shen (Radix Adenophorae seu Glehniae) 1 liang, Chai Hu (Radix Bupleuri) 3 qian, Bai Shao (Radix Paeoniae Alba) 3 qian, Wang Bu Liu Xing (Semen Vaccariae) 3 qian, decocted in water and taken orally. (Commentary: Zhu Hu Dan [Expel Fox Pill]). One dose causes protrusion without retraction.
Formula for Impotence: Use Shu Di (Radix Rehmanniae Preparata) 1 jin, Rou Gui (Cortex Cinnamomi) 3 liang, Fu Pen Zi (Fructus Rubi) 3 liang, Tu Si Zi (Semen Cuscutae) 2 jin, Ba Ji Tian (Radix Morindae Officinalis) 6 liang, Bai Zi Ren (Semen Platycladi) 3 liang (oil removed), Mai Dong (Tuber Ophiopogonis) 3 liang, Dang Gui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis) 6 liang, Bai Zhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae) 8 liang. Grind each into powder, form pills with honey. Take 1 liang daily delivered with plain boiled water, naturally resulting in robust, sustained potency. (Commentary: Qiang Yang Shen Dan [Strengthen Yang Divine Pill]).
Sun Simiao’s transmitted formula for treating hernia: Use Sha Shen (Radix Adenophorae seu Glehniae) 1 liang, Ju He (Semen Citri Reticulatae) 1 qian, Rou Gui (Cortex Cinnamomi) 1 qian, Chai Hu (Radix Bupleuri) 1 qian, Bai Shao (Radix Paeoniae Alba) 5 qian, Chen Pi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae) 5 fen, Wu Zhu Yu (Fructus Evodiae) 5 fen, decocted in water and taken orally. One dose stops pain, two doses achieve full recovery. Hernia disease is generally a disorder of Liver Wood; therefore, by treating the Liver, success follows effortlessly. (Marvelous.)
