This is the original formula (Wuling San) with Cinnabar added, used to treat heatstroke causing irritability and thirst, fever, headache, cholera-like vomiting and diarrhea, scanty dark urine, and mental confusion.
This is Wuling San without Polyporus, with Fresh Ginger and Processed Pinellia Rhizome added, made into pills using dried tangerine peel paste; further adding Coptis Rhizome and Phellodendron Bark, it is called Jianzhong Wan, a compound formula used to treat irritability and thirst.
This is Wuling San combined with Pingwei San, used to treat watery diarrhea, as well as summerheat invasion in summer, or diarrhea caused by consuming food or drink exposed to the sun during the day, or sitting in hot places under the sun.
This is Wuling San combined with Sijunzi Tang, used to treat thirst without disease, thirst after illness, and thirst accompanied by internal dryness and irritability due to excessive loss of body fluids following sweating or purging therapies, or due to cholera-like vomiting and diarrhea.
This is Wuling San combined with Yiyuan San, without Polyporus, plus Gypsum Fibrosum and Halloysitum Rubrum, used to treat summerheat. If Polyporus is removed from Guiling Ganlu Yin and Gypsum Fibrosum is not added, it is named Ganlu Yin. It treats conditions where summerheat and dampness interact, causing profuse watery diarrhea, irritability and thirst, or urinary retention and dysuria.
This is Wuling San combined with Yiyuan San, plus Halloysitum Rubrum and Gypsum Fibrosum, used to treat vomiting, diarrhea, muscle cramps, and abdominal pain caused by exposure to summerheat and damp-heat, cited from *Ling Shu*.
Treating pathogenic factors invading the Zang-Fu organs:
Excess Yang and deficiency Yin lead to inability to close the eyes for sleep.
Setaria Italica Seed (one sheng), Pinellia Tuber (five he).
Take flowing water from a thousand li away, splash it ten thousand times, take the clear portion, use five sheng to cook the two ingredients with reed firewood. Cook slowly until reduced to one and a half sheng, remove the dregs, and drink a small amount of the juice at a time.
Setaria Italica Seed is sweet and slightly cold. The *Nei Jing* states that pungent flavors disperse it and sweet flavors moderate it. The *Nan Jing* states that when the Yang Qiao vessel is diseased, the Yang side is flaccid and the Yin side is tight, with excess Yang. Sweet flavors are used to moderate it. Flowing water is chosen for its moving and non-stagnant nature; reed firewood is chosen for its hollow and non-obstructive nature. This corresponds to the classic saying of resolving blockages and unblocking the meridians.
Treating gastric reversal and vomiting:
Pinellia Tuber (two sheng), Ginseng Radix (three liang), White Honey (one sheng).
Take the above three ingredients, mix with twelve dou of water and honey, splash two hundred and forty times, decoct to obtain two and a half sheng. Take one sheng warm, and divide the remainder into two doses.
Those who vomit should naturally feel thirsty; if they feel thirsty, it indicates the condition is about to resolve. Now that they do not feel thirsty, it is because there is retained fluid (Zhi Yin) in the heart region. This formula governs this condition.
Pinellia Tuber (one sheng), Fresh Ginger (half jin).
Take the above two ingredients, decoct with seven sheng of water to obtain one and a half sheng. Divide into two warm doses. In the *Huoren Shu*, it is called Banxia Shengjiang Tang, treating severe vomiting approaching exhaustion.
Pinellia Tuber, Cinnamon Twig, and Licorice Root in equal parts, used to treat Shaoyin disease with sore throat.
