To treat Taiyang disease (Exterior Syndrome of the Taiyang Channel) where the patient is quiet but occasionally irritable, this is due to cold in the zang organs causing roundworms to ascend into the diaphragm, thus causing irritability; if food intake leads to vomiting and expulsion of roundworms:
Wumei (Mume Fructus) (300 pieces) Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) (6 liang) Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) (10 liang) Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (4 liang) Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) (1 jin) Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata)
(6 liang, processed, skin removed)
The above ten ingredients are separately pounded and sifted, then mixed. Soak Wumei (Mume Fructus) in vinegar overnight, remove the pits, steam it, place it under five sheng of rice until the rice is cooked, remove and pound into a paste, mix thoroughly with the other medicines, place in a mortar, and add honey.
According to Cheng Wuji: The Lung governs qi; Lung qi desires to consolidate, so urgently consume sour substances to consolidate it; the sourness of Wumei (Mume Fructus) consolidates Lung qi. The Spleen desires to relax, so urgently consume sweet substances to moderate it; the sweetness of Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) moderates Spleen qi. When cold pathogen overflows within, moisten it with pungent substances and firm it with bitter substances; the pungency of Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus), Huajiao (Zanthoxyli Pericarpium), and Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) moistens internal cold. When cold pathogen prevails strongly, level it with pungent-hot substances; the pungent-hot nature of Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) and Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) overcomes cold. Roundworms become active with sweetness and are calmed by bitterness; the bitterness of Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) and Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex) calms roundworms.
Use Wumei Rou (flesh of Mume Fructus), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, fully processed), Aiye (Artemisiae Argyi Folium) (each 7.5 qian), Ejiao (Colla Corii Asini, stir-fried), Roudoukou (Myristicae Semen), Chishizhi (Halloysit Rubrum) (each 1 liang), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (0.5 liang).
Pound the above into fine powder. Take 2 qian at any time, mixed with congee water or plain water, to treat vomiting caused by Huoluan (Cholera-like disorder).
To treat Xiongbi (Chest Bi Syndrome) characterized by alternating remission and exacerbation:
Yiyiren (Coicis Semen) (15 liang) Dafuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) (10 pieces, processed).
Pound the above two ingredients into a powder. Take one fangcun bi (a measure equivalent to the area of a square inch) per dose, three times daily.
Use Yiyiren (Coicis Semen) (ten parts), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) (two parts), Baijiangcao (Patriniae Herba) (five parts). Pound into powder. Take one fangcun bi, decoct in two sheng of water until reduced by half, and take in one dose.
When suffering from Yongzhong (abscesses), the patient's skin is dry and scaly like fish scales, the abdominal wall is tense, but soft upon palpation, appearing swollen yet without accumulation masses inside, the body has no fever, and the pulse is rapid. This indicates intestinal abscess with pus. After taking this medicine, urination will become smooth.
Use Weijing (Ecliptae Herba) (2 sheng), Yiyiren (Coicis Semen) (0.5 sheng), Taoren (Persicae Semen) (50 pieces), Gua ban (Benincasae Semen / Trichosanthis Semen) (0.5 sheng). Use one dou of water. First decoct Weijing (Ecliptae Herba) until five sheng remain, then strain off the dregs.
