Lan Xian said: To treat young people, whose blood and qi are vigorous, one must not indiscriminately use tonifying medicines. One should observe their physical strength and weakness, and prescribe medication according to the disease; this will naturally ensure accuracy. The prescription uses: Houpo (Magnolia Bark) 1 qian (adjusted for symptoms), Huoxiang (Patchouli Herb), and Guzhi (Psoralea Fruit).
Maori Xingjun (Star Lord of the Day Maori) said: For treating tendons and vessels, if a person suffers from tendon spasm, clenched fists, and inability to bend or straighten due to stiffness, use Danggui (Angelica Sinensis Root) 1 liang, Baishao (White Peony Root) 5 qian, and Yiren (Coix Seed) 5 qian. For insufficient blood vessels or dry, withered hair lacking luster, use Danggui (Angelica Sinensis Root) 1 qian, Baishao (White Peony Root) 3 qian, Chuanxiong (Sichuan Lovage Rhizome) 1 qian, Shudi (Prepared Rehmannia Root) 4 qian, and Baiguo (Ginkgo Nut) 5 pieces.
Li Tieguai Xian (Immortal Li Tieguai) said: Regarding the treatment of tendons and vessels, I have established two prescriptions: Use Danggui (Angelica Sinensis Root) 3 qian, Shaoyao (Peony Root) 1 liang, Shudi (Prepared Rehmannia Root) 2 liang, Chaihu (Bupleurum Root) 1 qian, Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome) 5 qian, and Gancao (Licorice Root) 3 qian. After taking it, the temples... [Text incomplete].
Zhongli Xian (Immortal Zhongli) said: I have a miraculous formula for darkening hair. Within ten days, I guarantee your hair will become black again. Use Shudi (Prepared Rehmannia Root) 3 liang, Heshouwu (Polygonum Multiflorum Root) 3 liang (use raw, not prepared), and Bai Fuling (Poria)... [Text incomplete].
Guolao Xian (Immortal Guolao) said: Add Huajiao (Zanthoxylum Fruit) 1 qian. This formula is extraordinarily effective; I do not fear revealing heavenly secrets.
[Lu Zu's Phlegm Treatment Formulas Section Begins]
One treats phlegm in its initial stage, one treats phlegm that has already manifested as disease, and one treats phlegm resulting from chronic illness.
For initial phlegm, use Banxia (Pinellia Tuber) 1 qian, Chenpi (Citrus Reticulata Peel) 1 qian, Tianhuafen (Trichosanthes Root) 1 qian, Fuling (Poria) 1 qian, Gancao (Licorice Root) 1 qian, and Suzi (Perilla Fruit) 1 qian. Decoct in water and take orally.
Phlegm that has already manifested resides in the Middle Jiao. Observe its color: white or yellow. If yellow, the fire pathogen is about to recede; if white, the fire pathogen is blazing. Blazing fire should be treated with cooling herbs to clear heat... [Text incomplete].
Chronic illness that does not heal invariably involves the depletion of Kidney Water. The prescription uses: Shudi (Prepared Rehmannia Root) 5 qian, Fuling (Poria) 3 qian, Shanyao (Dioscorea Rhizome) 3 qian, Yiyiren (Coix Seed) 5 qian, Qianshi (Euryale Seed) 5 qian, and Rougui (Cinnamon Bark)... [Text incomplete].
Libai Daxian (Great Immortal Libai) said: These three formulas are excellent and are holy medicines for treating phlegm. I have one formula for treating manifest phlegm, attached below: Use Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome) 3 qian, Fuling (Poria) 3 qian, Chenpi (Citrus Reticulata Peel) 1 qian, Tianhuafen (Trichosanthes Root) 2 qian, Yizhiren (Alpinia Oxyphylla Fruit) 3 fen, Renshen (Ginseng Root) 3 fen, and Yiren (Coix Seed) 3 fen. If there is fire, add Huangqin (Scutellaria Root) 1 qian; if there is no fire, add Ganjiang (Dried Ginger) 1 qian. Decoct in water and take orally. After two doses, the phlegm will dissipate on its own. For even more chronic phlegm, Liuwei Dihuang Tang (Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Pill) added with Maidong (Ophiopogon Tuber) and Wuweizi (Schisandra Berry) yields miraculous results. If there is no fire, adding Fuzi (Aconite Lateral Root) and Rougui (Cinnamon Bark) suffices.
Liu Xian (Immortal Liu) said: I also have two formulas for old phlegm formed over time: Use Baishao (White Peony Root) 3 qian, Chaihu (Bupleurum Root) 1 qian, Baijiezi (White Mustard Seed) 5 qian, Fuling (Poria) 3 qian, and Chenpi (Citrus Reticulata Peel)... [Text incomplete].
Also treats stubborn phlegm. Phlegm that forms clumps blocking the throat is called stubborn phlegm; phlegm that remains in the chest and diaphragm without resolving is called old phlegm. Use Beimu (Fritillaria Bulb) 3 qian, Gancao (Licorice Root) 1 qian... [Text incomplete]. Decoct in water and take orally.
Liu Xian said: Fire boiling generates phlegm; yet Rougui (Cinnamon Bark) is added. This means the fire is not subdued by water. Therefore, the latter two formulas should not be discarded either.
Hexiangu (Immortal He Xiangu) said: Death-like syncope where consciousness is lost, stroke with aphasia, demonic possession, or intrusion by mountain spirits—suddenly collapsing and losing consciousness at once—is this condition. Dong Xian (Immortal Dong) said: To treat Jue syndrome (syncope/cold extremities), only one herb is needed: Cangzhu (Atractylodes Rhizome) sliced, 3 liang. With six bowls of water, decoct until three bowls remain. Administer orally; vomiting will inevitably occur, and upon vomiting, the patient will recover. Cangzhu,... [Text ends].
