[Piao Xiao (Mirabilite)]
Taste: Bitter. Nature: Cold.
Indications: Treats a hundred diseases. Eliminates pathogenic factors of cold and heat. Drains out accumulations in the six fu organs, including nodules, solidifications, and lingering masses. It can dissolve seventy-two types of minerals. When refined and taken as pills, it makes the body light and confers immortality.
Habitat: Grows in mountain valleys.
Commentary: Like jade hiding its uncarved form, salt fluids attach to generate it. Green distinguishes the morning peaks, white displays flowing crystals. Rigidity is overcome by softness; mechanism contends with transformation. The seventy-two stones contain emptiness within the Supreme Clarity (Taiqing).
Famous physicians state: It grows on the sunny side of saline waters in Yizhou; those with greenish-white color are superior. Wang Bo's poem: "Mountains extend, morning peaks appear." Qingbai Xingjian's fu: "Flowing crystals display their uniqueness." Book: "High and bright, softness overcomes rigidity." Bai Juyi's eulogy: "Once heavenly secrets are acquired, one contends with transformation." Guanzi: "Reaching up to the Supreme Clarity."
[Shi Hui (Talcum)]

Benefits essence and qi. Long-term consumption makes the body light, resistant to hunger, and extends life.
Habitat: Grows in mountain valleys.
Commentary: Sweeping away filth and cleansing flaws, its slipperiness guides stagnation. It harmonizes with the Sanjiao (Triple Burner) and opens the nine orifices. It can be used to alleviate hunger, allowing me to transcend worldly bounds. Baishan and Juanshan mountains, fresh and pure, condense into bright luster.
Song Wuxian's commentary: "Sweeping away flaws and cleansing filth." Huangting Jing: "Harmonizing with the Sanjiao, drinking nectar through the way." Zhou Li: "Physicians treat via the nine orifices." Shi Jing: "Can alleviate hunger." Zuo Zhuan: "Allows me to tread high." Famous physicians state: It grows north of Ye at Baishan or Juanshan. Shuijing Zhu: "Powder water is bright, pure, and fresh."

Commentary: Its green quality resembles gall. Qiangdao shines brightly. In the starry sky, Hu (Arc) is central, Jian (Build) appears. Dates are recorded on Geng and Xin days. Forever granting longevity to milu deer, suitable for making qilin flourish. Immortals are cunning in transformation, changing gold and silver.
Taiping Yulan records: Grows in Qiangdao or Juqingshan. Li Ji: In the second month of spring, dusk sees Hu central, dawn sees Jian central. Famous physicians state: Harvested on Gengzi and Xinchou days in February.
Shi Jing: "Grant me long life," anciently written as "Mi". Also "Toes of the Qilin, vigorous are the princes." Shenxian Zhuan: Wang Fangping said, "I do not like engaging in such cunning transformations again."
