To treat carbuncles, ulcers, and sores, the "Riding on a Bamboo Horse" moxibustion method is used: Use a thin comb to measure from the Chize (LU5) acupoint on the patient's hand at the transverse crease, following the muscle down to the tip of the middle finger. Cut this length.
Take a bamboo pole externally, place both ends of the pole on stools, have the patient remove clothing, and straddle the bamboo pole with feet slightly touching the ground. Place the previously cut thin comb on the pole, hold it vertically, and slide it straight up along the back. Mark the point where the comb ends with ink. This is merely to find the midpoint, not a specific acupoint for moxibustion yet. Then, use a thin comb to measure the distance between the two transverse creases of the middle finger joint as one cun. Place the comb on either side of the marked ink point, measuring one cun on each side; these are the acupoints. Moxa for five or seven moxa cones (zhuang) on each side; do not over-moxa. This method of moxibustion ensures recovery in all cases. These two acupoints are traversed by the Heart meridian. All diseases of carbuncles and ulcers are caused by stagnation of Heart Qi, leading to toxic accumulation. Moxibustion here promotes the flow of the Heart meridian, resulting in immediate healing, capable of reviving the dying, with extraordinary efficacy.
