The Yellow Emperor asked Qibo: "How should moxibustion be performed for ordinary people suffering from wind-stroke and hemiplegia?"
Qibo replied: "Two or three months, or even five to six months before the onset of wind-stroke, during non-seasonal times, there may be sudden soreness and pain in the lower legs accompanied by numbness in the cheeks, which resolves after a long time. This is a prodromal sign. At this stage, one must urgently perform moxibustion on Sanyangjiao (ST36) and Juegu (GB39) at four locations, three cones each. Afterwards, wash the moxa burns with a decoction of mint and peach/willow leaves to expel wind qi through the burn wounds. If the burns heal in spring, re-moxibust in autumn; if they heal in autumn, re-moxibust in spring. It is ideal to maintain moxa burns on both feet continuously. Those who do not believe in this method, or who have irregular diet, excessive alcohol, or sexual indulgence, may suddenly suffer from wind-stroke, presenting with slurred speech and hemiplegia. In such cases, it is advisable to perform three cones of moxibustion on seven specific points. If the wind pathogen is on the left, moxa the right side; if on the right, moxa the left side: 1. Baihui (DU20); 2. Hairline anterior to the ears; 3. Jianjing (GB21); 4. Fengshi (GB31); 5. Zusanli (ST36); 6. Juegu (GB39); 7. Quchi (LI11). These seven acupoints are extremely effective. Following this method ensures success without failure."
The Yellow Emperor's moxibustion method for treating wind-stroke, upward-deviated eyes, and aphasia: Perform seven cones of moxibustion on the spinous processes of the second and fifth thoracic vertebrae simultaneously. The moxa cone should be the size of half a jujube pit.
