Hemoptysis (coughing up blood) refers to the symptom of coughing up blood without accompanying cough. At the initial stage of the disease, it is advisable to use *Bai Bian Dou San* (White Hyacinth Bean Powder), adding half a qian of Sheng Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Recens) and Ou Jie (Nelumbinis Nodus). This is particularly effective. Alternatively, one may take Hei Shen San (Black Divine Powder) and Xiao Wu Chen Tang (Minor Black Sinking Decoction), each one qian, mixed with concentrated Jing Mo (Beijing Ink). Another method involves using freshly excavated Sheng Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Recens), thoroughly washed, mixed with a small amount of Sheng Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), pounded to extract the juice, filtered, and taken warm. Yet another method is to take a slice of Sheng Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), dip all four sides in Bai Cao Shuang (Soot from Hundred Herbs), and hold it in the mouth to swallow. If the taste of Bai Cao Shuang (Soot from Hundred Herbs) fades, spit it out and re-dip; if the ginger loses its flavor, spit it out and replace it. This method is also effective for Sou Xue (hemoptysis associated with cough).
For vomiting and hemoptysis caused by Lao Zhai (consumptive disease), *Qi Zhen San* (Seven Treasures Powder) can be used, adding half a qian of E Jiao (Colla Corii Asini) and Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix). For those who dislike sweet tastes, add half a qian of Bai Yao Jian (Fermented Medicated Leaven), and mixing with Zhong Lu Fen (Calcitriolum) is especially good.
Using only Zhong Lu Fen (Calcitriolum), mixed with Nuomi Yin (Glutinous Rice Drink), can also treat vomiting and hemoptysis. For bleeding due to lung injury caused by bending over after a full meal, *Bai Ji Pi Pa Wan* (Bletilla and Loquat Pill) or *Bai Ji Lian Xu San* (Bletilla and Lotus Stamen Powder) is indicated.
(Attached: Lung Abscess)
Heat stagnating in the lungs can cause Sou Xue (hemoptysis associated with cough); prolonged coughing damaging the lungs can also cause Sou Xue (hemoptysis associated with cough). Cases where heat stagnates in the lungs are easier to treat, requiring only cooling methods. Cases where the lungs are damaged are difficult to treat, as they have long become consumptive diseases. For hot-type cough with blood, *Jin Fei Cao San* (Golden Whirlweed Powder) with added half a qian of E Jiao (Colla Corii Asini) is suitable. For consumptive-type cough with blood, *Bu Fei Tang* (Lung-Nourishing Decoction) with added half a qian of E Jiao (Colla Corii Asini) and Bai Ji (Bletillae Rhizoma) is suitable. For cough with blood accompanied by shortness of breath, *Bu Fei Tang* (Lung-Nourishing Decoction) with added half a qian of E Jiao (Colla Corii Asini), Xing Ren (Armeniacae Semen), and Sang Bai Pi (Mori Cortex) should be taken, swallowing Yang Zheng Dan (Nourishing Right Pill), Ling Sha Dan (Spiritual Cinnabar Pill), or San Sha Dan (Three Cinnabars Pill). Intermittently, Bai Hua Gao (Hundred Flowers Paste) can be administered. For cough with blood and lung damage, use Shi Yi Yi Ren (Coicis Semen) ten liang, crushed, decocted in three sheng of water until one sheng remains, add a little wine, and divide into two or three doses. Alternatively, grind Shi Yi Yi Ren (Coicis Semen) into fine powder, boil Zhu Fei (Porcine Lung), and eat it dipped in the powder. Take one Zhu Xin (Porcine Heart), cut open with a bamboo knife, ensuring no contamination. Insert one qian of Chen Xiang Mo (Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum) powder and seven Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) into the slit. Wrap in paper, soak in urine to moisten, roast until cooked, remove, discard the Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), and consume only the Zhu Xin (Porcine Heart). This formula treats both Sou Xue (hemoptysis associated with cough) and Tu Xue (vomiting blood). For hot-type cough with sore throat, sputum with blood streaks, or sputum with abundant fresh red blood, *Jin Fei Cao San* (Golden Whirlweed Powder) is appropriate. If cooling agents fail and the blood is dark/clotted, this is not a heat syndrome; *Xing Zi Tang* (Apricot Seed Decoction) is indicated. Lung Abscess presents with chest pain, distension, and fullness, coughing up thick bloody sputum with an extremely foul odor. In later stages, expectoration resembles porridge, or there is dry mouth and throat. These symptoms arise from lung qi obstruction leading to stagnation and accumulation of hot blood. *Qian Jin Nei Bu San* (Thousand Gold Internal Tonifying Powder) is indicated, removing Guan Gui (Cinnamomi Cortex) and combining with half a dose of *Bu Fei Tang* (Lung-Nourishing Decoction) for decoction and administration. Alternatively, use *Jin Fei Cao San* (Golden Whirlweed Powder), removing Ma Huang (Ephedrae Herba), adding Jie Geng (Platycodonis Radix) in equal amounts, or additionally adding Sang Bai Pi (Mori Cortex) and Pi Pa Ye (Loquats Leaf). Continue using Xing Ren (Armeniacae Semen), peeled, de-husked, raw, ground into paste, mixed with Bai Yao Jian (Fermented Medicated Leaven) powder, formed into pills the size of marbles, and dissolved in the mouth. Si He Gao (Four Harmonies Paste) can also be dissolved in the mouth.
