Sanzhong Kuijian Decoction (Swelling-Reducing and Hardness-Resolving Decoction): Treats Machang Chuang (a type of scrofula occurring in the axilla or neck, shaped like a machete), where the mass is hard as stone. It may be located below the ear, extend to the Keyuan (supraclavicular fossa), on the shoulder, or under the hypochondrium.
Ingredients: Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix, 4 fen), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma, 2 fen), Longdancao (Gentianae Radix, wine-fried, 5 fen), Lqiao (Forsythiae Fructus, 3 fen), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, wine-fried, 8.5 fen), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 5 fen), Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, wine-fried, 5 fen), Gegen (Puerariae Radix), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Sanleng (Sparganii Rhizoma, wine-mixed and lightly fried), Guangmuxiang (Costi Radix, each 3 fen), Gualougen (Trichosanthis Radix, 5 fen).

Siwu Tang (Four Substance Decoction): Treats Blood Deficiency, fever associated with blood deficiency, and all conditions characterized by Blood Deficiency.

Usage: One dose. Add two zhong of water, decoct until eight parts remain, and take far from mealtime (on an empty stomach).
Danggui Longhui Wan (Angelica and Gardenia Pill): Treats painful swelling of scrofula, pain in the hypochondrium with a sensation of accumulation, Xiagan (chancre) and Bianyong (perianal abscess), dysuria with astringency, constipation, blood stasis causing lower abdominal pain.

Fenxin Qi Yin (Cardiac-Qi Separating Infusion): Treats stagnation of the Seven Emotions leading to chest and diaphragm discomfort, false distension of the hypochondrium, choking and obstruction, belching with acid regurgitation, vomiting of foul matter with nausea, and deficiency-type epigastric fullness.

Usage: Coarsely chop, add water, decoct until eight parts remain, and take far from mealtime.
Siqi Tang (Seven-Character Decoction): (See the "Liuzhu" chapter for the formula.)
Shengdihuang Wan (Rehmannia Pill): Scholar Xu Baiyun stated: A nun suffered from aversion to wind, fatigue, alternating chills and fever, facial flushing, and mental restlessness. At that time, an epidemic was prevalent. Physicians treated her chills and fever as Taiyang disease (Cold Damage), administering Da Xiaochaihu Tang and Xiao Chaihu Tang indiscriminately. After several days, her condition worsened. I examined her pulse and said: The pulses in the three positions show no signs of pathogenic cold; only the Jueyin Liver pulse is wiry, long, and extending toward the Yuji area. She requires yin-nourishing and yang-suppressing herbs. I prescribed this formula, and she recovered.
Ingredients: Shengdihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Recens, 1 liang, wine-mixed and pounded into paste), Qinjiao (Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Yingschaihu (Bupleuri Radix, hard variety, each 5 qian), Chi Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra, 1 liang).
Usage: Grind into fine powder, mix with Rehmannia paste and a little refined honey to form pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take 30 pills per dose, washed down with sour plum decoction, two to three times daily.
Fangmai Liuqi Yin (Pulse-Qi Circulating Infusion): (See the "Liuzhu" chapter for the formula.)
Yuxian Wubi Wan (Immortal Peerless Pill): Treats scrofula that has not yet suppurated, in patients whose vital qi is normal. If the patient's constitution appears weak, it is advisable to first administer Yiqi Yangrong Tang (Qi-Nourishing and Blood-Nourishing Decoction) to restore strength before taking this pill. After the ulcer heals and closes, resume the previous decoction.
Ingredients: Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, fried), Binglang (Arecae Semen), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Heiqianniu (Pharbitidis Semen, half raw, half fried), Mituoseng (Electrotum), Yuliren (Pruni Semen, soaked in water and skin removed), Bantao (Mylabris, wings and feet removed, stir-fried with rice), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Binglang (Arecae Semen).
Usage: Wash down with Binglang Gancao Tang (Areca and Licorice Decoction). After about a month of use, if mild abdominal pain is felt and fish-eye-like toxic matter is passed via urine, healing occurs. Existing ulcers will heal naturally; non-suppurated nodules will resolve spontaneously.
Bixiao San (Highly Effective Powder): Treats scrofula; un-suppurated nodules may resolve spontaneously, and ulcers may close. If nodules persist, use Zhentou San to cauterize necrotic tissue. Use with caution in cases of Qi and Blood Deficiency.
Ingredients: Nanpengsha (South Peng Sand, 2.5 qian), Qingfen (Calomelas, 1 qian), Bantao (Mylabris, 40 insects, stir-fried with sticky rice until cooked, heads and wings removed), Shexiang (Moschus, 5 fen), Badou (Crotonis Fructus, 5 seeds, shell, core, and membrane removed), Bai Binglang (White Areca Seed, 1 piece).
Usage: Grind into fine powder. Take 1 qian per dose (1.5 qian for robust individuals). Mix with boiling water and take at wugeng (early morning, 3–5 AM). If urination is obstructed or slightly painful, this indicates the toxin is being expelled; administer Yi Yuan San once more to facilitate expulsion. Although Bantao and Badou are harsh, Badou neutralizes the toxicity of Bantao; users need not fear. I met a wealthy merchant in the capital with a large patch of scrofula scars on his neck. He attributed it to anger and had suffered for two years without success. A practitioner gave him one dose of this formula, reducing symptoms by 20–30%; after four doses, he was flat, and cured within ten days. He sought the formula heavily, which turned out to be Bixiao San. Another elderly woman used a medium-grade Dingzi (plug) inserted into the wound, covered with a plaster, causing the root to rot. Once removed, she applied flesh-regenerating medicine, curing her in days. I observed this method effective for those with sufficient Qi and Blood, but ineffective for those with Deficiency. Danxi noted that combining Bixiao Shen with Shenxiao Gualou San yields miraculous results. I often use them with tonics with great effect, hence recording them. Note: Although Dingzi is harsh, it is necessary for hard tubercles. Bixiao San contains Bantao, which is harsh, but combined with Badou to mitigate toxicity, making it suitable for deep-seated toxins. However, it should be avoided in Qi and Blood Deficiency. Another Daoist treated this with seven eggs, each containing one Bantao, steamed and eaten fasting. This method is recorded in various texts but is unsuitable for deficient patients.
Sanpin Dingzi (Three-Grade Plugs):
Top Grade: Removes eighteen types of hemorrhoids.
Ingredients: Baimingfan (Alumen, 2 liang), Baibi (Realgar/Orpiment variant, 1 liang 5 fen), Ruxiang (Olibanum, 3.5 qian), Moyao (Myrrha, 3.5 qian), Niuhuang (Calculus Bovis, 3 qian).
Middle Grade: Removes five types of fistulas, Fanhualiu (fungating tumors), and Qihe (gas nodules).
Ingredients: Baimingfan (Alumen, 2 liang), Baibi (Realgar/Orpiment variant, 1 liang 5 qian), Ruxiang (Olibanum, 3 qian), Moyao (Myrrha, 3 qian), Niuhuang (Calculus Bovis, 2 qian).
Bottom Grade: Treats scrofula, Qihe, Dingchuang (carbuncle), Fabei (back carbuncle), Naoju (brain furuncle), and other malignant conditions.
Ingredients: Baimingfan (Alumen, 2 liang), Baibi (Realgar/Orpiment variant, 1 liang 5 qian), Ruxiang (Olibanum, 2.5 qian), Moyao (Myrrha, 2.5 qian), Niuhuang (Calculus Bovis, 3 fen).
Preparation: Place Baibi powder in a purple clay jar, cover with Mingfan powder, smoke with charcoal ash until smoke ceases, remove, grind to ultra-fine powder, and mix with rice paste to form plug shapes.
Usage: Apply topically; can be used dry.
Yiyuan San (Benefit Element Powder):
Ingredients: Huashi (Talcum, 6 liang), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-roasted, 2 liang).
Usage: Grind separately, mix with honey. Take 2 qian per dose, with hot or cold water as preferred.
Xiaoyao San (Free and Easy Wanderer Powder): Treats women with Blood Deficiency presenting with five-palm heat, limb pain, heavy head and dizzy eyes, palpitations with flushed cheeks, dry mouth and throat, fever with night sweats, phlegm-cough with tidal fever, emaciation, and gradual development of bone-steaming consumption.
Ingredients: Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, wine-mixed), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix), Fuling (Poria), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, fried), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix, each 1 qian), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 7 fen).
Usage: One dose. Add two zhong of water, decoct until eight parts remain, and take far from mealtime.
Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction): (See the "Ulcer with Fever" chapter for the formula.)
Zhi Xuefen Jiaoren Wan (Treat Blood-Section Pepper Kernel Pill):
Ingredients: Jiaoren (Zanthoxyli Semen), Gansui (Kansui Radix), Xuisui Zi (Crotonis Fructus, peeled and ground), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata), Yuliren (Pruni Semen), Heiqianniu (Pharbitidis Semen), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Wulingzhi (Trogopterori Faeces, crushed), Wuzhuyu (Evodiae Fructus, wine-soaked), Bantao (Mylabris, 10 insects, stir-fried with rice until yellow, rice discarded), Danfan (Chalcanthite, 1 qian), Renyan (Arsenic Trioxide, 1 qian).
Usage: Grind into powder, bind with wheat paste to form pills the size of peas. Take one pill per dose, washed down with tangerine peel decoction.
Note: Although these herbs are harsh, the dosage is small. Refusal to take them due to fear may lead to worsening the disease. Used cautiously in weak patients without adverse effects. Precision in prescription is key; do not hesitate.
Zhi Shuifen Tingli Wan (Treat Water-Section Lepidium Pill):
Ingredients: Tingli (Descurainiae Semen seu Lepidii, fried, ground separately), Xuisui Zi (Crotonis Fructus, shelled, each half liang, ground), Gansunmo (Dried Bamboo Shoot Powder, 1 liang).
Usage: Grind into powder, bind with jujube paste to form pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take seven pills per dose, washed down with Bianzhu Tang (Bamboo Leaf Decoction). If stool is loose, reduce Xuisui Zi and Tingli by 1 qian each, and add Baizhu (5 qian).
Alternative Formula: Treats fluid retention due to meridian obstruction, where water flows to limbs causing generalized edema, termed Blood Section. Symptoms mimic Water Disease, but misdiagnosis as Water Disease is incorrect; use this formula.
Ingredients: Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, wrapped in wet paper and steamed with three dou of rice until ripe, paper removed, sliced and fried), Guixin (Cinnamomi Ramulus), Qumai (Polygoni Avicularis Herba), Chi Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra)... (Text cuts off). See "Yangsheng Biyong Fang" for details on forming 20–30 pills.

Treatment: Use Baiziren Wan and Zelan Tang.
Ingredients: Baiziren (Biota Semen, fried and ground), Niuxi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix, wine-mixed), Juanbai (Selaginellae Herba, each half liang), Zelan Ye (Leonuri Herba), Xuduan (Dipsaci Radix, each 2 liang), Shudihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata, using fresh... text error likely, usually prepared)... (Text cuts off). Wash down with Xinmi Yin (Heart Rice Drink).
