Taiyang (Greater Yang) channel affected by wind after childbirth, presenting with severe panting, violent vomiting, and frequent retching, constitutes a difficult-to-treat condition. Panting indicates that the Primordial Yang is on the verge of exhaustion; how much more so in cases of severe panting! Vomiting indicates that Stomach Qi is on the verge of depletion; how much more so in cases of violent vomiting! Retching indicates that Spleen Qi is on the verge of collapse; how much more so in cases of frequent retching! Treatment should employ Zhuanqi Jiuchan Tang (Transform Qi and Rescue Childbirth Decoction), administered in large doses. If the panting and vomiting cease, there may be a chance for survival; otherwise, death remains inevitable. In cases where Taiyang syndrome manifests as spitting up pus and blood, severe headache leading to head rupture, incessant mental restlessness, abdominal pain resembling death, or the formation of Jie Xiong (Chest Binding) syndrome, even mild symptoms are difficult to rescue; if all symptoms appear simultaneously, death is certain. The appropriate treatment is Foshou San (Buddha's Hand Powder) with a substantial addition of Renshen (Ginseng Root), assisted by Rougui (Cinnamon Bark) and Jingjie (Schizonepeta), which will lead to recovery.

Chuanxiong (Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizome)
Jingjie (Schizonepeta Spike)
Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig)

Shaoyang (Lesser Yang) channel affected by wind after childbirth. Presentation of delirium (Zhenyu) and irritability, compounded by palpitations and fright, indicates a fatal prognosis, as Shaoyang corresponds to the Gallbladder. Without bile fluid to moisten it, the Heart cannot be nourished; without blood to sustain it, the Heart cannot function properly. Consequently, mental confusion arises, leading to delirium, irritability, and palpitations occurring sequentially. When the Gallbladder is invaded by pathogenic factors, failing to release the exterior through sweating prevents blood generation; however, solely employing exterior-releasing methods causes further blood depletion. The appropriate treatment is Foshou San (see formula above under Taiyang Wind section), supplemented with Renshen (Ginseng Root), Zaoren (Sour Jujube Seed), Maidong (Ophiopogon Tuber), Zhuru (Bamboo Shavings), Zhusha (Cinnabar), and Shudihuang (Rehmannia Root, prepared).
Yangming (Bright Yang) channel affected by wind after childbirth, presenting with severe panting and profuse sweating, is also difficult to treat; Buxu Jianghuo Tang (Tonify Deficiency and Descend Fire Decoction) is indicated. If Yangming syndrome manifests as mania (Kuangzheng) accompanied by loss of Yang Qi, it is incurable. Mania typically involves excess heat, whereas postpartum conditions involve deficient heat. Excess heat can be purged, but deficient heat cannot. However, precisely because it is accompanied by loss of Yang Qi, even if excess heat is present, it still falls under the category of Qi deficiency. The appropriate treatment is Shouyang Tang (Collect Yang Decoction): one dose stops sweating, two doses calm the mania. Do not administer a third dose. This formula is intended only to rescue from acute loss of Yang Qi and is not for prolonged use. Following this treatment, after two doses, regulation should be conducted using only Renshen (Ginseng Root), Maidong (Ophiopogon Tuber), Danggui (Angelica Sinensis Root), Chuanxiong (Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizome), and Wuweizi (Schisandra Fruit) to restore peace and stability.
