Spontaneous abortion is caused by deficiency of blood and qi, which fails to nourish the fetus, leading to natural miscarriage. It is like plants: when branches wither, fruits fall; when vines decline, flowers drop; the same applies to the fetus. Since qi deficiency leads to weak retention and consolidation, and blood deficiency results in inadequate irrigation and nourishment, the fetus is lost. Therefore, those skilled in preserving pregnancy must specifically tonify qi and blood, using Taiyuan Yin (Fetal Origin Decoction) as the main formula, modified according to symptoms. Next are Xiongui Buzhong Tang (Ligusticum and Angelica Decoction for Tonifying the Middle), Taishan Panshi San (Mount Tai Porphyry Powder), Qianjin Baotai Wan (Thousand-Gold Fetus-Preserving Pill), and Baotai Wuyou Wan (Fetus-Preserving Worries-Free Pill). These formulas can achieve miraculous effects and are the supreme treasures for pregnancy preservation.
Taiyuan Yin (Fetal Origin Decoction)
(Treats women with loss of defense and ren vessel integrity, unstable fetal origin. Modify according to syndrome, or take one dose every other day or every two to three days.)
Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) (dose as appropriate) Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) Duzhong (Eucommiae Cortex) (stir-fried with salt water until fibers break) Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) (each 2 qian) Shudihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata) (2-3 qian) Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (honey-fried, 1.5 qian)
Zhigancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Praeparata cum Melle) (1 qian) Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) (0.7 qian, omit if no stagnation)
Add two zhong of water, decoct to seven-tenths, take far after meals.
If lower yuan is insecure with frequent turbid discharge, add Huangqi (Astragali Radix) (honey-fried) 1 qian (but Baizhu has floating qi that may obstruct the stomach appetite; if there is fullness and discomfort in the chest and diaphragm, use with caution).
For deficiency combined with cold causing frequent vomiting, add Paojiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Praeparatum) 0.7-0.8 fen or 1 fen. For deficiency combined with heat, add Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) 1.5 qian, or add Shengdihuang (Rehmanniae Radix) 2 qian, remove Duzhong. For yin deficiency with lower abdominal pain, add Gouqi (Lycii Fructus) 2 qian. For frequent anger causing qi reversal, add Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma) (processed) 0.7 fen, or add Sharen (Amomi Fructus) 0.7 fen. If movement due to external contact causes bleeding, add Chuanxuduan (Dipsaci Radix) (fried) and Ejiao (Asini Corii Colla) (fried into beads) each 1-2 qian; for incessant vomiting, add Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) (processed with ginger juice, fried) 1-2 qian, and Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) 3-5 slices.
Xiongui Buzhong Tang (Ligusticum and Angelica Decoction for Tonifying the Middle)

Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) Huangqi (Astragali Radix) (honey-fried) Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) Chuanxuduan (Dipsaci Radix) (fried) Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) (each 1 qian) Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) Shudihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata) (each 0.8 qian) Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma)
