Postpartum blood syncope is caused by a sudden and severe deficiency of Qi and Blood, where Blood follows the upward movement of Qi, confusing and disturbing the Shen (Spirit), resulting in visual hallucinations (seeing spots). In severe cases, it leads to coma, clenched jaws, unconsciousness, and cold breath. It is appropriate to use Qinghun San (Clear the Soul Powder) or Liying Tang (Instant Response Decoction). If, after the delivery of the fetus, roasted Jingjie Sui (Schizonepetae Spica, charred) is ground into powder and taken at a dose of 5 fen each time, mixed with Tongbian (urine of a healthy boy), it can prevent postpartum blood syncope. Alternatively, finely chopped Jiucai (Allium tuberosum, Chinese Chive) can be placed in a bottle, hot Cu (Vinegar) poured over it, and the fumes directed towards the parturient woman's face for inhalation. If fainting occurs due to excessive bleeding, presenting only as drowsiness, oppression, and restlessness, tonification of Blood is indicated; Xiong Gui Tang (Ligusticum and Angelica Decoction) is appropriate. If fainting occurs despite minimal bleeding, this indicates that Elu (lochia) has rushed upwards to affect the Heart, causing urgency and fullness below the heart, unconsciousness, clenched jaws, and loss of consciousness. In such cases, breaking stasis and promoting Blood circulation is required; Du Ming San (Life-Saving Powder) is appropriate.
