Infantile sores and ulcers are all caused by heat toxins accumulated in the nursing mother's diet or fire generated from emotional stagnation (Seven Emotions). Internally, this manifests as fright-phlegm and fever; externally, it presents as sores, ulcers, scabies, and tinea. Treatment must first involve administering a decoction for clearing fire and detoxifying to the nursing mother. Subsequently, the infant should be given pills such as Jiedu Wan (Detoxification Pill) or Huadu Dan (Toxin-Resolving Elixir) (formulas see previous section), followed by the application of external poultices (two formulas see previous).
Yueshi Chuang (Moon-Eclipse Sore: refers to sores on infants' fingers, ears, and surrounding areas): Take Qiangweigen (Root of Rosa multiflora) 4 qian, Diyupi (Bark of Cornus officinalis) 2 qian, Qingfen (Calomel) 5 fen. Grind into fine powder and apply externally.
Mei Chuang (Eyebrow Sore: grows above the eyebrows): Grind Qingyinguang (Silverware residue/oxide) into an extremely fine powder, add a small amount of Qingfen (Calomel), and mix with Mahuyou (Sesame Oil) for topical application.
Bi Ni Chuang (Hidden Nasal Sore: sores growing around the four sides of the nose): Kufan (Calcined Alum) 1 qian, Haipiaoxiao (Cuttlefish Bone) 1 qian, Xionghuang (Realgar) 1 qian, Chishizhi (Red Halloysite) 2 qian, Qianfen (Lead Carbonate) 2 qian, Huangdan (Litharge) 2 qian, Haiertcha (Child's Tea/Catechu) 5 fen, Qingfen (Calomel) 5 fen. Grind into an extremely fine powder. If the lesion is moist, sprinkle the dry powder; if dry, mix with oil and apply.
Bi Xia Lan (Ulceration under the Nose): Zexie (Rhizoma Alismatis), Yujin (Rhizoma Curcumae Longae), Shanzhi (Fructus Gardeniae), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae) in equal proportions. Decoct in water and administer orally.
Huozhuo Chuang (Fire-Burn Sore: infant's whole body red and ulcerated, resembling skinless state): Remove the shell of Muguezi (Seed of Momordica cochinchinensis), split it open halfway. Boil in one zhong (unit of volume) of Xiangyou (Sesame Oil) until the seed is scorched (no white center when cut). Filter into a bowl, place in water overnight to remove "fire toxicity," then apply to the affected area using a goose feather.
Yuqi Chuang (Fish-Navel Sore: black head, deep yellow center, fluid oozing from surroundings): Burn Shedui (Snake Slough) until carbonized but retaining properties, grind into powder, and mix with Jiziqing (Egg White) for topical application.
Liunong Chuang (Flowing Pus Sore: sores forming where pus flows): Lvdoufen (Mung Bean Powder) 1 liang, Huangdan (Litharge) 3 qian, Kufan (Calcined Alum) 3 qian, Qingfen (Calomel) 1 qian. Mix with Xiangyou (Sesame Oil) and apply.
Laitou Chuang (Raghead Scab: sores covering the entire scalp): Niupiyanjiao (Leather Smoke Resin/Gum obtained from smoking leather, scraped from the mouth area, 1 liang), add Huangdan (Litharge) 3 qian and Kufan (Calcined Alum) 3 qian. Mix with Qingfen (Calomel) and Xiangyou (Sesame Oil) for application.
Sores and ulcers covering the head and whole body with itching and pain: Huanglianmo (Powder of Coptis Chinensis) 5 qian, Shechuangzimo (Powder of Cnidium Monnieri) 2.5 qian, Wubeizimo (Powder of Galla Chinensis) 1 qian, Qingfen (Calomel) 3 fen. Grind uniformly. First, decoct Jingjie (Herba Schizonepetae), Congbai (Scallion White), and Jiaohua (Zanthoxylum Bungeanum) in water, dissolve Baifan (Alum) and Puxiao (Mirabilite) (each one pinch) in the solution, wash the area clean, then mix the aforementioned powders with Xiangyou (Sesame Oil) and apply.
Alternatively, use Liandushenpi (Bark of Melia Azedarach) stir-fried and ground into powder, mixed with Zhuyou (Pig Fat/Oil) for application.
Tou Chuang (Head Sores): Apply Diqingli (Bitumen/Pitch, preferably from Shanxi) directly, or mix with Kuozhanggenmo (Powder of Sophora Flavescens Root) and Diqingli for application. Using Diqingli as a base for the previous medicines is particularly effective.
Heat Sores from Head to Feet: Huashi (Talcum) 1 liang (processed by water flotation), Dahuangmo (Powder of Rheum Palmatum) 2 qian, another portion of Dahuangmo 1 qian, Huangbamo (Powder of Phellodendron Amurense) 1.5 qian, Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis) 2 qian. Grind uniformly, mix with juice extracted from Dongqingye (Leaf of Ilex Aquifolioides), and apply.
For various sores on the body with pus and crusts, apply Waikke Wanling Gao (External Medicine Ten-Thousand Spirit Ointment) compounded with Ruxiang (Olibanum), Yinzhu (Cinnabar/Silver), and Zhusha (Cinnabar) onto the affected area. This is effective and does not stain clothes.
For chronic sores that do not heal: Baijiaoxiang (Gum Elemi/Franksincense resin, specifically Maple Resin here) 5 qian, Qingfen (Calomel) 2 qian. Grind uniformly into fine powder, mix with Zhu Guisui (Pig Marrow) or oil, and apply.
Xuan Chuang (Tinea/Ringworm): Crush Yangti Gen (Root of Rumex Japonicus) and Mingfan (White Alum) together, wrap in silk, and apply. Alternatively, grind Chuanjinpi (Bark of Hibiscus Tiliaceus) in vinegar for application; or apply Mabiann Cao Ye (Leaf of Patrinia Scabiosifolia).
Lou Gang (Fistula-like Ulcer): Songxiang (Rosin) (boiled with Congbai and Jiaohua, dried, and ground), Toufa (Hair) (burned to ash), Huangdan (Litharge) in equal proportions. Grind uniformly, mix with oil, and apply to the affected area.
