[Chronic Epigastric Fullness]
Moxibustion is applied to the acupoints located approximately four finger-widths on both sides of Mingmen (GV4) along the midline of the back. If the fullness is on the left, moxibustion is applied to the right; if on the right, it is applied to the left.
Another method states that in treating epigastric fullness, one must treat the root cause of the fullness to ensure efficacy. This method involves marking a point with ink directly below the thirteenth thoracic vertebra at the center of the spine. On both sides of this ink mark, measure three and a half cun outward. By palpating with fingers, locate the area with distinct movement or sensitivity, mark this as the acupoint, and apply moxibustion. This point is approximately level with the umbilicus. Moxibustion is primarily applied to the left side, or to both sides, which constitutes treating the root of the fullness. Alternatively, treating the opposite side of the lesion also yields effective results.
Shangwan (CV13), Zhongwan (CV12), Youmen (KI21), Tonggu (BL39) [for accumulation of retained fluid], Liangmen (ST21), Tianshu (ST25), Qimen (LR14) [100 moxa cones, for severe upward rushing of accumulated qi almost leading to collapse], Zhangmen (LR13) [for all types of accumulations and masses], Qihai (CV6) [100 moxa cones, for all types of qi masses], Guanyuan (CV4) [100 moxa cones, for Ben Tun syndrome with rebellious Qi causing unbearable pain], Pishu (BL20), Sanjiaoshu (BL22).
The above acupoints are used for moxibustion treatment of accumulations and masses; select according to the specific syndrome.
[Lung Accumulation] Named Xiben, located under the right hypochondrium.
ChiZe (LU5), Zhangmen (LR13), Zusanli (ST36).
[Heart Accumulation] Named Fuliang, starting above the umbilicus and extending upwards to below the heart.
Shenmen (HT7), Houxi (SI3), Juque (CV14), Zusanli (ST36).
[Liver Accumulation] Named Feiqi, located under the left hypochondrium.
Ganshu (BL18) [7 moxa cones], Zhangmen (LR13) [21 moxa cones], Xingjian (LR2) [7 moxa cones].
[Spleen Accumulation] Named Piqi, lying horizontally two cun above the umbilicus.
Pishu (BL20), Weishu (BL21), Shenshu (BL23), Tonggu (BL39), Zhangmen (LR13) [14 moxa cones], Zusanli (ST36) [all the above points receive 7 moxa cones].
[Kidney Accumulation] Named Bentun, arising below the umbilicus, moving up and down without fixed timing.
Shenshu (BL23), Guanyuan (CV4) [for Jia Pi], Zhongji (CV3) [for pain from accumulations below the umbilicus], Yongquan (KI1) [4-5 moxa cones, do not exceed this amount; use cone size like a wheat grain].
[Qi Mass]
Pishu (BL20), Weishu (BL21), Shenshu (BL23), Liangmen (ST21) [for pain], Tianshu (ST25).
Changsang Jun's needling technique for accumulations and Jia: First needle directly on the mass. In severe cases, insert one needle at the head of the mass and one at the tail. After needling, apply moxibustion for immediate effect.
