Earth corresponds to Rain Transformation, Fire corresponds to Heat Transformation, Metal corresponds to Clearing Transformation, Wood corresponds to Wind Transformation, and Water corresponds to Cold Transformation. In Ding Chou (丁丑) and Ding Wei (丁未) years, the associated transformations of Wind, Heat, Clearing, and Heat involve simultaneous Sheng-Fu (Victory and Revenge) dynamics between Clearing and Heat.
Ding represents Wood Movement, manifesting as Wind Transformation. Below Wood Movement, Metal Qi constrains it, manifesting as Clearing Transformation. Wood generates Fire, so Fire manifests as Heat Transformation. In Gui Chou (癸丑) and Gui Wei (癸未) years, the movement involves Heat, Cold, and Rain, with simultaneous Sheng-Fu dynamics between Cold and Rain.
Gui represents Fire Movement, manifesting as Heat Transformation. Below Fire Movement, Water Qi constrains it, manifesting as Cold Transformation. Fire generates Earth, so Earth manifests as Rain Transformation. In Ji Chou (己丑) and Ji Wei (己未) years, the movement involves Rain, Wind, and Clearing, with simultaneous Sheng-Fu dynamics between Wind and Clearing.
Ji represents Earth Movement, manifesting as Rain Transformation. Below Earth Movement, Wood Qi constrains it, so Wood manifests as Wind Transformation. Earth generates Metal, so Metal manifests as Clearing Transformation.
The term "Movement" refers to Yin years (Deficient years), where the Qi transforms in accordance with what it controls and what it generates; this is the degree of Evil Qi transformation. Yang years (Excessive years) have only one type of transformation, which is the degree of Righteous Qi transformation. This constitutes the two transformations of Evil and Righteousness.
Starting from the first day of the first month of Jia Zi year in the Lin De era of the Great Tang, when Ji You was the new moon, Lou Jin (Metal Star) independently directed the day initially, and after accumulating years, subtract one calculation. (From Lin De to Geng Xu, there are five hundred and twenty-seven years, which is the first year of Ming Chang.) Then multiply by seven, divide by nineteen, named Leap Number. Then multiply by twelve, then add the Leap Number and Divisor, then add the current month's number. Place this in the lower position, list separately, subtract one year. Then extract the Leap Number, and vacate the Five Elements number.
Then advance the upper position by one place, multiply by three. Then extract the number from the lower position, named Removing Small Month End. Then add the fractional days under the month, to see how many days remain. Then divide by sixty, if there is a remainder, divide by one hundred. Then divide by eighty-seven, if there is a remainder, add the Movement Number: for Excessive years add the Completion Number, for Deficient years add the Generation Number, to see the quantity. If a Yang year encounters an even number, add one; if a Yin year encounters an odd number, subtract one. After completing other additions and subtractions, if the total exceeds, take the number at the middle of the next ke (time unit) of that day.
All Five Movements govern one year. Excessive movements arrive early, and Deficient movements take advantage of them; Deficient movements arrive late, and Excessive movements follow them. The day the Movement arrives is thirteen days before or after the Si Tian (Heavenly Ruler) Jiao Si (Exchange) day, or coincides with the Jiao Si day. The greatest solar term is the Winter Solstice Tian Zheng day. One month after Winter Solstice is the day of Da Han (Great Cold) in the Chou month, which is the Heavenly Jiao Si day, with the Dipper pointing to Chou Zheng. Yang year Jiao Si days arrive thirteen days before, Yin year Jiao Si days arrive thirteen days after. When the Year Branch and Movement Stem match, they combine virtue to form Ping Qi (Balanced Qi). Neither excessive nor deficient, it is called Day Ping Qi. Thus, Earth Movement takes Ji Chou (己丑) and Ji Wei (己未) years, Metal Movement takes Yi You (乙酉) year, Water Movement takes Xin Hai (辛亥) year, Wood Movement takes Ding Mao (丁卯) year, Fire Movement takes Gui Si (癸巳) year. These are all Yin year Deficient Movements that reverse to become Balanced Qi Movements. Furthermore, in Excessive years, although there should be excess, Heavenly Punishment restricts it, reversing to Balanced Qi, preventing it from being vigorous. There are two Heavenly Punishments for Fire Movement, namely Wu Chen (戊辰) and Wu Xu (戊戌) years, where Taiyang (Solar) Cold Water rules the sky and controls it, so it is not vigorous, thus becoming Balanced Qi. There are four Heavenly Punishments for Metal Movement, namely Geng Zi (庚子), Geng Wu (庚午), Geng Yin (庚寅), and Geng Shen (庚申) years, where Jun Huo (Monarch Fire) and Xiang Huo (Minister Fire) rule the sky, so above sees the two Fires, and in the middle sees Metal Movement. The ruling Heaven controls it, preventing excess, thus becoming Balanced Qi. All these are the same as the Tian Zhi (Heavenly Arrival) Jiao Si day. Excessive is called Xian Tian (Prior Heaven), Deficient is called Hou Tian (Posterior Heaven), Balanced Qi is called Qi Tian (Equal Heaven). Qi Tian means coinciding with the Da Han Jiao Si day.
