The *Yizong Jinjian* (Medical Standard Golden Mirror) states that the point is located approximately two cun posterior to Fuliu (KI7), on the lateral tendon running obliquely upward from behind Fuliu. This view is incorrect.
Furthermore, Zisheng (Li Dongyuan's work *Zisheng Pian*) records: According to the annotation of Yin Qiao (Yin Heel Vessel) in the *Suwen* (Basic Questions), it refers to Jiaoxin (KI8), located two cun above the medial malleolus, anterior to the Shaoyin (Kidney) channel and posterior to the Taiyin (Spleen) channel, between the bone and tendon. I tentatively surmise that Yin Qiao is indeed Jiaoxin. However, in the annotation of Yin-Yang Qiao points in the *Qixue Lun* (Treatise on Qi Points) of the *Suwen*, it states that the Yin Qiao point is below the medial malleolus, referred to as Zhaohai (KI6) on the foot, which is where the Yin Qiao vessel originates. Thus, this implies that Yin Qiao is Zhaohai, not Jiaoxin. Wang Bing’s annotations of the *Suwen* contain many such instances; students must be aware of these discrepancies.
Zhubin (JB): Xi-Cleft point of the Yin Wei Vessel. Located eight cun above the medial malleolus, in the center of the gastrocnemius muscle belly. (JB)
Note: *Rumen* writes "Bin" for "Bin". The gastrocnemius belly refers to the fleshy part of the calf. *Yizong Jinjian* says it is commonly known as the calf. *Zhenjiu Juying* (Gathered Elegance of Acupuncture and Moxibustion) and *Yitong* place it five cun above the medial malleolus. *Rumen* states it is above the large tendon and below the small tendon posterior to the tibia, taken with flexed knees. This is a mistaken annotation for Yin Gu (KI10) and should not be followed.
Yingu (Ling Shu): Located posterior to the accessory bone (fibula/tibia depending on context, here likely referring to medial condyle area), below the large tendon and above the small tendon. Pressing yields a pulsating sensation; flex the knee to locate it; it is the He-Sea point. (Ling Shu) It directs towards the popliteal crease along with Ququan (KI10). (Added Note)
Note: This point is located posterior to Ququan, between the large and small tendons. The "pulsating sensation upon pressing" refers to arterial pulse. *Jia Yi Jing* writes "posterior to the inner accessory bone below the knee". Later commentaries, including *Lei Jing* (Classified Essentials), *Zhenjiu Juying*, *Yitong*, and *Yizong Jinjian*, follow this. *Qianjin Fang*, *Qianjin Yifang*, *Waitai Miyao*, *Zisheng Pian*, *Rumen*, *Fahui*, and *Baojian* omit the character "xia" (below), which is correct. "Accessory bone" is interpreted by Wu Wenbing as the lateral bone.
Foot Yangming Stomach Channel and Thigh Region: Total 30 points.
Lidui (Ling Shu): Located at the tip of the second toe (lateral to the big toe). It is the Jing-Well point. (Ling Shu) At the corner of the nail where it meets the flesh. (Suwen) Distance from the nail corner is like the width of a leek leaf. (Jia Yi Jing) On the lateral side. (Weisheng Baojian)
Note: The *Miuci Pian* (Treatise on Mirrored Puncturing) states: "On the claw nail of the middle toe and the next toe." Wang Bing (Wang Taipu) has already辨析 (analyzed/corrected) this. The character "nei" (inner) under "big toe" is a superfluous character and should be deleted.
Neiting (Ling Shu): Located in the space between the second and third toes. (Ling Shu) In the depression. (Jia Yi Jing)
Note: "Next toe" refers to the second toe. *Rumen* writes "in the depression of the bifurcation of the bones of the second, third, and fourth toes". *Yizong Jinjian* writes "lateral to the bifurcation of the bones before the proximal interphalangeal joint of the second toe", which is incorrect.
Xianggu (Ling Shu): Located in the medial space between the second and third toes, two cun upward, in the depression. It is the Shu-Stream point. (Ling Shu) In the lateral space between the big toe and second toe, after the metatarsophalangeal joint, in the depression, two cun distal to Neiting. (Jia Yi Jing)
Note: *Mingtang* writes "Gu" (bone) for "Gu" (valley). Old versions of *Jia Yi Jing* write "between the big toe and second toe". *Waitai Miyao* follows this but omits the character "wai" (lateral) in the phrase "gong jian shang". Now corrected based on *Qianjin Fang*, *Qianjin Yifang*, and *Zisheng Pian*. *Rumen* writes "depression in the bone".
Chongyang (Ling Shu): Also known as Huiyuan. (Jia Yi Jing) Also known as Huiyong. (Shengji Zonglu) Located five cun above the dorsum of the foot, in the depression. It is the Yuan-Source point. Locate it by shaking the foot. (Ling Shu) On the dorsal artery between the tarsal bones, three cun distal to Xianggu. (Jia Yi Jing) Five cun proximal to Neiting. (Rumen)
Note: "Fu" (dorsum) is written as "Fu" (same meaning) in *Jia Yi Jing*. Regarding the distance of three cun, one theory in *Qianjin Fang*, as well as *Shenyjing* and *Lei Jing*, writes two cun. *Yizong Jinjian*, in the entry for Xianggu, writes "two cun distal to Chongyang", all of which are incorrect. The *Suwen* states: "Puncture the large vessel on the dorsum; if blood flows uncontrollably, death ensues." Zhang Jiebin states: This is what Zhongjing referred to as Fuyang; the explanation is seen previously. The *Qianjin Yifang·Tuogan Pian* (Rectal Prolapse Chapter) states: There may be an error regarding the Chongyang point; it is recorded in the Extraordinary Points section.
Jiexi (Ling Shu): One and a half cun proximal to Chongyang, in the depression. It is the Jing-River point. (Ling Shu) Above the ankle. (Jia Yi Jing) Where the shoelace is tied. (Mingtang) Directly above the space between the big toe and second toe, on the dorsum of the foot, in the hollow. (Lei Jing) Six and a half cun proximal to Neiting. (Rumen)
Note: "Xi" is written as "Xi" (ancient variant) in *Mingtang*. Annotations in *Jia Yi Jing* and *Lei Jing* state that the annotation in *Qixue Lun* writes two and a half cun, while the current text writes one and a half cun. The annotation in *Cinu Lun* writes three and a half cun, which is erroneous.
Fenglong (Ling Shu): Eight cun from the malleolus, diverging to connect with the Taiyin Spleen channel. (Ling Shu) Eight cun above the lateral malleolus, lateral to the Xia Lian point, in the depression. (Jia Yi Jing)
Note: *Fahui* omits the character "Lian" from "Xia Lian". *Zhenjiu Juying* writes "Fu" (dorsum) for "Huai" (malleolus), which is incorrect.
Juxia Lian (Suwen): Also known as Xia Lian. (Ling Shu) Also known as Xia Juxuxu. (Qianjin Fang) Three cun distal to Shang Lian. (Ling Shu) One cun distal to Tiaokou. (Waitai Miyao) Six cun distal to Zusanli. (Rumen) Take the point with the foot lifted. (Zisheng Pian) Note: Three cun is written as two cun in *Waitai Miyao*, which is incorrect. *Zisheng Pian* quotes *Mingtang*: "In the depression between two tendons and two bones, squatting to take the point." This is a mistaken citation of the annotation for Shang Lian. *Zhouhou Beiji Fang* states: One Fu below Shang Lian, do not adopt. The *Suwen* states: "For Juxu, lift the foot to see the solitary depression; for Xia Lian, it is the depressed area."
Tiaokou (Jia Yi Jing): One cun proximal to Xia Lian. (Jia Yi Jing) Two cun distal to Shang Lian. (Waitai Miyao) Take the point with the foot lifted. (Zisheng Pian) Five cun distal to Zusanli. (Lei Jing)
Note: *Zhouhou Beiji Fang* states: One Fu below Shang Lian. *Zisheng Pian* writes "one cun above Lian", omitting the character "xia" (distal) above "Lian". It also quotes *Mingtang* as "below Shang Lian". The characters for up/down are easily confused due to copying errors.
Jushang Lian (Suwen): Also known as Shang Lian. (Ling Shu) Also known as Shang Juxuxu. (Qianjin Fang) Three cun distal to Zusanli. (Ling Shu) Lift the foot to find the solitary depression. (Suwen) Six cun lateral to Dubi, below the tibial tuberosity. (Secondary Annotation) Between the outer aspect of the tibia, inside the large tendon, and among the bones. (Mingtang) In the depression between two tendons and two bones, squatting to take the point. (Shenyjing)
Note: *Zhouhou Beiji Fang* states: One Fu below Zusanli, do not adopt.
Zusanli (Suwen): Also known as Xialing. (Ling Shu) Also known as Guixie. (Qianjin Fang) In the space three cun below the knee. (Suwen) Xialing is three cun below the knee, lateral to the bone. Zusanli is the He-Sea point. (Ling Shu) Take the point with the foot lowered. (Same source) Lateral to the tibia. (Jia Yi Jing) Adjacent to the outer edge of the tibia, concave when pinched. (Zhouhou Beiji Fang) Between the muscles and tendons. (Secondary Annotation) Between the large tendon and the bone/tendon, in the deep depression. (Mingtang) Heavy pressure stops the arterial pulse on the dorsum of the foot. (Secondary Annotation) Contraindicated for moxibustion in children. (Lei Jing, one theory)
Note: The *Qifu Lun* states: From Zusanli down to the middle toe, there are eight Shu points distributed. The secondary annotation explains: These are Zusanli, Shang Lian, Xia Lian, Jiexi, Chongyang, Xianggu, Neiting, and Lidui. The *Zhenjie Pian* states: What is called Zusanli is three cun below the knee. What is called "Fu zhi" (lowering the foot) means raising the knee makes the separation easy to see. Xin Zhengjiao notes: According to the Quan Yuanqi edition, "Fu zhi" is written as "Di zhi"; *Taisu* writes "Fu zhi". According to the *Gukong Lun*, "Fu zhi" is suspected to be "Fu shang" (on the dorsum). The *Ci Yaotong Lun* states: Puncture Yangming at Bi qian. The secondary annotation clarifies: This is exactly the Zusanli point. When locating this point, if it is too close to the bone or too far from the tendon without adhering to the bone, it will be ineffective. Many shortcut methods exist but should not be followed. *Zhouhou Beiji Fang* states: Place the patient's hand horizontally below, extending four fingers, named one Fu. The tip reaches below the knee bone; the middle phalanx marks the point. Do not adopt. Since the definition of one Fu is given previously, only adhere to the original note of being adjacent to the tibia below. One theory in *Zhenjiu Juying* and *Rumen* places it three cun below Dubi, which is incorrect. Generally, when mentioning above or below the knee, the patella is excluded. *Zisheng Pian* and *Benshi Fang* state to take the point with the foot lifted. *Fahui*, *Zhenjiu Juying*, and *Yitong* follow this. Originally, the *Zhenjie Pian* and *Lei Jing* state to take the point with the knee vertical and foot lowered. Originally from the *Xieqi Zangfu Bingxing Pian*.
Dubi (Suwen): Below the knee, above the tibia, in the large tendon at the knee joint. (Jia Yi Jing) Lateral to the eye of the knee. (Rumen) Shaped like an ox's nose, hence the name. (Lei Jing) Puncturing Dubi requires the leg to be flexed and unable to extend. (Ling Shu) Contraindicated for moxibustion. (Rumen) Puncturing the patella causing effusion leads to limping. (Suwen)
Note: "Below the knee" is written as "below the patella" in *Qianjin Fang*, *Qianjin Yifang*, the secondary annotation, and *Waitai Miyao*. "Above the tibia" refers to above the tibial bone. The *Gukong Lun* states: The tibial bone void is at the upper end of the accessory bone. The secondary annotation clarifies: This refers to Dubi. "Knee joint" was formerly written as "Xia jie". *Qianjin Fang* secondary annotation, *Waitai Miyao*, *Zisheng Pian*, *Zhenjiu Juying*, and Wu Wenbing agree. This is a copying error. *Shengji Zonglu*, *Mingtang*, *Fahui*, and *Lei Jing* write "Gu jie" (bone joint). "Ting" in *Qianjin Fang* and *Zisheng Pian* refers to the shin. The *Waitai Miyao·Jiaoqi Pian* (Foot Disease Chapter) writes "outer corner above the kneecap, in the depression", which is incorrect. *Yizong Jinjian* writes "below the kneecap, above the tibia, in the depression". Commonly known as Knee Eye. There are empty spaces on both sides of this depression; "Knee Eye" does not specifically refer to the acupoint name but is easily confused. "Flexed and unable to extend" means the point is taken with the knee flexed.
Liangqiu (Jia Yi Jing): Also known as Kuagu. (Dacheng) Xi-Cleft point of the Yangming Channel, two cun above the knee. (Jia Yi Jing) Between the two tendons. (Qianjin Fang) Note: "Qiu" is written as "Qiu" (variant) in *Yizong Jinjian*. One theory in *Qianjin Fang* writes three cun. *Dacheng* writes one cun above the patella, which is incorrect.
Yinshi (Jia Yi Jing): Also known as Yinding. (Jia Yi Jing) Three cun above the knee, below Futu. Take the point as if bowing. (Jia Yi Jing) In the depression. (Secondary Annotation) Posterior to the inner accessory bone of the knee, below the large tendon and above the small tendon. (Lei Jing) Contraindicated for moxibustion. (Jia Yi Jing) Although stated as contraindicated, family traditions also apply seven moxa cones. (Dacheng ○ Secondary annotation: Apply three moxa cones.)
Note: *Qianjin Fang·Xiaoke Pian* (Diabetes Chapter) writes: Three cun proximal to Futu, take the point facing the knee. *Rumen* writes: In the depression of Futu. Furthermore, according to the *Suwen*: "Empty space above the femoral bone, in Guyang, emerging four cun above the knee." The secondary annotation states: Above Yinshi, below Futu, at Chengjie. Currently, there is no point name in this location; it is likely Yinshi. Unclear. Liangqiu is directly above the knee head, slanting from the muscle separation to the transverse crease beside the horizontal bone, ending at Biguan. This represents the flow of qi in the valleys, which can be verified.
Futu (Suwen): Also known as Wai Gou. (Daquan) Also known as Wai Qiu. (Baojian) Six cun above the knee, in the raised muscle. (Jia Yi Jing) Take the point in a kneeling position. (Zisheng Pian) Seven cun above the knee cap. (One theory in Zisheng Pian) About three finger-widths on each side; pressing reveals raised muscle resembling a rabbit, hence the name. (Lei Jing) Six cun above the gap between the knee and thigh, directed inward. (Rumen) Contraindicated for moxibustion. (Jia Yi Jing ○ *Qianjin Fang* for manic speech by ghosts, apply one hundred moxa cones.)
Note: "Tu" (rabbit) is written as "Tu" (wild rabbit) in the *Suwen*, *Qianjin Yifang*, *Zhenjiu Juying*, and Wu Wenbing. Tu and Tu are interchangeable. Wu Kun writes Tu. *Waitai Miyao* writes "Qi Nei" (raise inner) for "Qi Rou" (raise muscle), a writing error. Generally, those stating seven cun measure from the top of the knee cap.
Biguan (Jia Yi Jing): Posterior to Futu, three cun above the knee, in the intersection of muscle separations. (Jia Yi Jing) In the transverse crease of the hip bone. (Rumen) Contraindicated for moxibustion. (One theory in Lei Jing)
Note: "Fen" is written as "Wen" in *Fahui* and *Lei Jing*. Another version of *Lei Jing* places it one chi two cun above the knee, which is too rigid. "Bi" is written as "Pi" (Spleen) in *Daquan*, and also incorrectly as "Bi".
Foot Shaoyang Gallbladder Channel and Thigh Region: Total 28 points.
Qiaoyin (Ling Shu): Located at the tip of the fourth toe (little toe). It is the Jing-Well point. (Ling Shu) At the corner of the nail where it meets the flesh. (Suwen) Distance from the nail is like the width of a leek leaf. (Jia Yi Jing) Lateral side of the fourth toe. (Rumen)
Note: *Qianjin Yifang* writes: Distance from the nail corner like the width of a leek leaf.
Xiaxi (Ling Shu): Located between the fourth and fifth toes. It is the Ying-Spring point. (Ling Shu) Between the bifurcated bones, before the proximal joint, in the depression. (Jia Yi Jing)
Note: "Xia" is written as "Jia" (clip) in *Zhenjiu Juying* and Wu Wenbing. *Qianjin Fang* omits the two characters. *Yizong Jinjian* writes Diewuhui, one cun distal, which is too rigid.
Diewuhui (Jia Yi Jing): In the space after the proximal joint of the fourth and fifth toes, in the depression. (Jia Yi Jing) Moxibustion causes emaciation and death within three years. (Jia Yi Jing) Contraindicated for needling. (Rumen)
Note: *Zisheng Pian*, *Lei Jing*, *Zhenjiu Juying*, *Rumen*, *Yitong*, Wu Wenbing, *Daquan*, and *Dacheng* write one cun distal to Xiaxi, which is too rigid. Generally, points located in bone-joint depressions are not measured precisely with cun. Therefore, ancient texts do not specify distances. *Rumen* omits the character "Hui".
Linque (Ling Shu): One and a half cun upward, in the depression. It is the Shu-Stream point. (Ling Shu) In the space after the proximal joint of the little toe and fourth toe, in the depression, one and a half cun distal to Xiaxi. (Jia Yi Jing)
Note: The *Ling Shu* states: Linque ascends. This means Linque is located ascending from Xiaxi. *Qianjin Fang*, *Qianjin Yifang*, and *Waitai Miyao* write one and a half cun distal to Xiaxi, which is correct. The phrase "Linque xia" (below Linque) likely omitted "Xiaxi". Locating this point at the bony ridge is incorrect. It is between the bony ridges but not pressing against the bone, hence the *Ling Shu* states: one and a half cun, in the depression. One theory in *Daquan* writes seven and a half cun distal to Xiaxi, which is incorrect.
Qiuxu (Ling Shu): Anterior and inferior to the lateral malleolus, in the depression. It is the Yuan-Source point. (Ling Shu) Lateral aspect, below the malleolus, as described before. (Jia Yi Jing) In the longitudinal groove of the bone. (Zhenjiu Juying) Take the point with the foot extended. (One theory in Qianjin Yifang)
Note: *Rumen* writes a variant character for Qiu. *Yizong Jinjian* writes Qiu. *Daquan* and *Rumen* write Wei. *Baojian* agrees. *Jia Yi Jing* states: One cun distal to Linque. *Qianjin Fang*, *Qianjin Yifang*, *Waitai Miyao*, secondary annotation, *Mingtang*, *Zisheng Pian*, and subsequent books write three cun. This point should not be determined by cun measurements, so these are not adopted.
Xuanzhong (Jia Yi Jing): Also known as Jiegu. (Qianjin Fang) Three cun above the lateral malleolus, in the pulsating vessel. It is the connecting point of the three Yang channels of the foot. Press until the Yangming pulse disappears to locate it. (Jia Yi Jing) In the depression at the end of the bone. (Waitai Miyao) Anterior to the bone tip. (Lei Jing)
Note: The character "Zhe" is superfluous. *Qianjin Fang*, *Qianjin Yifang*, and *Waitai Miyao* omit the character "Mai" (vessel). *Waitai Miyao* adds the character "Da" (large) before "Luo". Yangming refers to the dorsal artery. Ascending from the ankle along the bone, approximately three cun up, there is a place called Juelong. The sharp tip of the bone is commonly called Yangzhi Gu. Anterior to this is Xuanzhong. *Qianjin Fang·Ke Sou Pian* (Cough Chapter) writes "above the medial malleolus", which is an error. Also, *Qianjin Fang* states: One Fu above the outer malleolus. Also states: Four cun. One theory in *Benshi Fang* and *Zisheng Pian* writes four cun. Four cun overlaps with Yangfu and should not be followed. The *Waitai Miyao·Jiu Gangjiao Pian* (Moxa for Foot Disease Chapter) states one chi. *Zhouhou Beiji Fang* writes slightly more than three cun above the lateral malleolus. Measure from the tip of the finger to the upper edge of the ankle bone, bend the finger head four cun; this corresponds relatively to Xia Lian, forming two points in the interval. *Qianjin Yifang* states: Three finger-widths above the lateral malleolus, above the bone. The method: Use grass across the middle line of the finger, spanning three finger-widths, aligning both ends, then measure from the lower bone of the lateral malleolus upward to the bone tip. This is not correct. The *Shenyjing* states: Although it says three cun above the lateral malleolus excluding the malleolus, the point must be at Juelong. This view is accurate.
Yangfu (Ling Shu): Also known as Jiegu (Suwen) Also known as Fenrou. (Lei Jing) Above the lateral malleolus, anterior to the fibula, and at the end of Jiegu. It is the Jing-River point. (Ling Shu) Four cun above the lateral malleolus, anterior to the end of the fibula, as described before, three parts [of the distance?], seven cun distal to Qiuxu. (Jia Yi Jing)
Note: The *Qixue Lun* states: Fenrou two points. The secondary annotation says: Above the lateral malleolus, at the end of Jiegu. Three parts, between muscle and tendon, where the Qi of the Yang Wei Vessel emerges. Xin Zhengjiao notes: *Jia Yi Jing* has no Fenrou point; it is suspected to be Yangfu. *Suwen Zhijie* states: Three cun above the navel is Shuifen point. Probably incorrect. Also, the *Gukong Lun* states: At the end of Jiegu above the lateral malleolus. Moxibustion. The secondary annotation says: This is the Yangfu point. The *Cinu Lun* states: Needle Jiegu. Wang says: This is the Yangfu point. The *Nanjing* states: Marrow meeting point is Jiegu. Hua Shou states: Jiegu is also known as Yangfu. Note that sharing the same name with Xuanzhong may indicate an error. "Seven cun distal to Qiuxu" uses the ankle bone as three cun. *Waitai Miyao* writes: Three cun lateral to the lower outer knee, beside the fibula, between the two tendons of the little toe, which is incorrect. *Lei Jing* quotes the secondary annotation: Write as two parts posteriorly. The current text matches *Jia Yi Jing*. *Yimen Zhaiyao* states: Fibula should be written as Tibia, which is incorrect. *Qianjin Yifang·Zhufeng Pian* (Wind Chapter) states: Three cun above the lateral malleolus, one theory says four cun. Also states: One Fu.
Guangming (Ling Shu): Five cun from the malleolus, diverging to connect with Jueyin. (Ling Shu) Above the lateral malleolus. (Jia Yi Jing) In the depression. (Mingtang)
Waiqiu (Jia Yi Jing): Xi-Cleft point of the Foot Shaoyang channel. Generated by Shaoyang, located seven cun above the lateral malleolus. (Jia Yi Jing) In the bone depression. (Rumen) Posterior to Yangjiao. (Added Note)
Note: "Qiu" is written as "Qiu" (variant) in *Yizong Jinjian*. Old versions of *Jia Yi Jing* wrote "medial malleolus", a writing error. Yangjiao is already specified as lateral malleolus. *Qianjin Fang*, *Waitai Miyao*, and subsequent books write "lateral malleolus". Thus, it is corrected here.
Yangjiao (Jia Yi Jing): Also known as Bieyang. Also known as Zu... (Jia Yi Jing) Xi-Cleft point of the Yang Wei Vessel. Located seven cun above the lateral malleolus, slanting into the muscle separation of the three Yang channels. (Jia Yi Jing) Alongside Waiqiu. (Rumen) Posterior to Xia Lian, anterior to Waiqiu. (Added Note)
Note: Xia Lian of the Yangming channel, Waiqiu of this channel, and Feiyang of the Taiyang channel, all seven cun above the malleolus, constitute the muscle separation of the three Yang channels.
Yanglingquan (Ling Shu): In the depression lateral to the knee. It is the He-Sea point. Locate it with the leg extended. (Ling Shu) One cun below the knee, lateral to the tibia. (Jia Yi Jing) Anterior to the pointed bone lateral to the knee. (Qianjin Fang) In the depression. (Qianjin Yifang) In the hollow below the lateral bone. (Waitai Miyao)
Note: The *Ling Shu* states: Yang zhi Lingquan, explanation seen previously. *Shenyjing* omits the character "Quan", likely a omission. The *Zangfu Bingxing Pian* states: For cold and heat, take Yanglingquan. The *Ci Yaotong Lun* states: Puncture the end of the Chenggu of Shaoyang to bleed. Chenggu is the bone protruding alone at the lateral aspect of the knee. Lou Shanquan states: This refers to Yanglingquan. Wu Kun states: This is the Yangguan point. Zhang's annotation states: This is the upper end of the tibia, which supports the body, hence called Chenggu. *Jia Yi Jing* writes "Sheng" for "Cheng". The *Qixue Lun* states: Cold and heat Shu points are in the middle of the two Haiyan. Two points. The secondary annotation states: Haiyan refers to the depression of the bone clamping the outside of the knee. Wang Shuhe combines two characters into Haiyan; the two characters cannot be removed. The *Jizhu* states: The knee joint is Hai; the two points in the middle of the two Haiyan refer to Yanglingquan of the Shaoyang channel. *Rumen* writes: One cun below the patellar bone, in the depression between the two lateral bones. *Lei Jing* writes: Between the bone and tendon anterior to the pointed bone, which is also acceptable. *Shenyjing* writes six fen anterior to the lateral bone below the knee, which is too rigid. *Lei Jing*, *Rumen*, *Zhenjiu Juying*, *Yitong*, Wu Wenbing, *Yizong Jinjian*, and *Dacheng* write squatting to take the point, which is correct. The reference in the *Zangfu Bingxing Pian* to Yanglingquan aligns with the method of taking the point with the knee vertical and aligned.
Yangguan (Jia Yi Jing): Also known as Guanling. (Qianjin Zhu) Also known as Yangling. (Zhenjiu Juying) Also known as Guanyang. (Baojian) Three cun proximal to Yanglingquan, lateral to Dubi, in the depression. (Jia Yi Jing) Above the external accessory bone, between the bone and tendon beside the knee. (Okamoto) Contraindicated for moxibustion. (Jia Yi Jing) Contraindicated for needling. (Rumen)
Note: *Qianjin Fang* writes Guanyang, likely a misplacement. Later generations assumed it was another name. *Zisheng Pian* and *Rumen* write two cun. *Yizong Jinjian* writes two cun above the knee, which is incorrect. The *Suwen* states: The Cold Mansion is in the Ying at the resolution of the lateral knee attachment. *Lei Jing* states: Refers to the space between the resolving external accessory bone below the knee. Generally, cold qi accumulating from below gathers at the knee. Hence the patella is particularly cold, hence named Cold Mansion. Ying means bending. It corresponds to Yangguan of the Foot Shaoyang channel.
