Zhongliao (Jia Yi) is located on the lateral side of the femur, five cun above the knee, in the depression between the muscle bellies. (Jia Yi) Acupuncture and moxibustion are contraindicated (Ru Men).
Note: The character "Du" is written as "Du" (渎) in Qianjin Fang, Waitai Mi Yao, and subsequent texts. Ziyao Yuyong Qiaolong... [Text contains corrupted characters]. In Jia Yi, it is written as "Huan Diao". Bi Yan is like the axis in the middle of the two Hai Yan; Bi Shu refers to the upper edge of the thigh, that is, the area close to the lower abdomen where movement occurs. Below it, straight down to the knee head. Qi Fu Lun mentions "one pattern on each side of the middle of Bi Shu", which probably refers to the end of the transverse crease of the medial thigh, beside the lower part of the Nianzi bone, which is this acupoint. When the foot is flexed and pressed, there is naturally a depression that can accommodate a finger; when extended, the tendons and bones tense up, and the depression disappears. "Yanzi bone" is written as "Nianzi bone" in Ru Men; Qianjin Yi Fang has a version without the character "Zi"; Da Quan writes it as "Yanzi Tou". This acupoint connects with Tonggu; "Fenzhong" refers to the division of the muscle belly; "Zhong" refers to what is mentioned in Miao Ci Lun as "puncturing Zhong Shu", and in Jue Bing Pian as "taking from the side", in the middle of Shu He Zhong, meaning the middle of Bi Shu. Wu Kun said: "Fenzhong" is the name of the acupoint, which is Huantiao. Because it is exactly at half of the body, it is called Fenzhong. If it is an alternative theory, it is temporarily recorded as an alias to show learners. Waitai Mi Yao says: Huantiao and Fengshi are suspected to be aliases, which is incorrect. Yimen Jianyao says: According to this acupoint, it is in the center of the front, back, left, and right of the shoulder, taking it by drawing a string from both breasts; this is absurd.
The Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian and the thigh have a total of thirty-six acupoints.
Zhiyin (Ling Shu) is located at the tip of the little toe. It is the Jing-Well point. (Ling Shu) Above the nail corner, where the nail meets the flesh. (Su Wen) On the lateral side of the little toe, about the width of a leek leaf away from the nail. (Jia Yi) At the corner of the nail. (Qianjin Fang) In the hollow. (Ming Tang)
Tonggu (Ling Shu) Anterior to the proximal interphalangeal joint, on the lateral side. It is the Ying-Spring point. (Ling Shu) In the depression. (Jia Yi)
Note: "Benjie" refers to the proximal joint of the little toe, continuing from the previous text.
Shugu (Ling Shu) Posterior to the proximal interphalangeal joint, in the depression. It is the Shu-Stream point. (Ling Shu) On the lateral side of the little toe. (Jia Yi) At the junction of red and white skin. (Ci Zhu)
Jinggu (Ling Shu) On the lateral side of the foot, below the large bone, it is the Yuan-Source point. (Ling Shu) At the junction of red and white skin, in the depression, obtainable by pressing. (Jia Yi)
Note: Yang Jizhou's Zhenjiu Ju Ying states: The large bone posterior to the proximal joint of the little toe is named Jinggu. The acupoint is below the bone, and "red and white skin" should be "red and white bone", which is a textual error.
Jinmen (Jia Yi), also known as Guanliang (Jia Yi). An empty point of the Foot-Taiyang Meridian, located in the depression below the lateral malleolus. (Qianjin Fang) One cun below the lateral malleolus. (Lei Jing) Where the Yang Wei Mai branches off. (Jia Yi)
Note: Zhenjiu Ju Ying writes "Liangguan". Yitong, Wu Wenbing, and Dacheng agree. "Yi Kong" means "Bone Empty". Zhenjiu Ju Ying writes one cun below Shenmai, i.e., one cun five fen below the lateral malleolus, near the white skin; where is the bone empty? Also, Shenying Jing writes slightly posterior to the lateral malleolus, posterior to Qiuxu, anterior to Shenmai, which can be considered insufficiently detailed. Below the lateral malleolus, enough space for a fingernail, and defining Shenmai below it, one feels for the bone empty to locate the point.
Shenmai (Jia Yi), also known as Guilu (Qianjin Fang), also known as Yang Qiao (Da Quan). Half a cun below the lateral malleolus. (Su Wen) Where the Yang Qiao Mai originates, below the lateral malleolus, in the depression, accommodating the size of a fingernail. (Jia Yi) Moxibustion is contraindicated (Ru Men).
Note: Zisheng Jing, Fahui, Ru Men, Wu Wenbing, and Dacheng write "junction of white skin", which is likely incorrect. This acupoint is five fen below the lateral malleolus; accommodating a fingernail does not reach the junction of white skin, so this description is not adopted. Qianjin Fang says: For cold bi syndrome due to labor and qi rebellion causing cold in the waist, difficulty in flexion and extension, moxa Yang Qiao for one hundred burns, located below the lateral malleolus, accommodating a fingernail to this point. Da Quan lists it as an alias. Based on this.
Pucan (Jia Yi), also known as Anxie (Jia Yi). Below the calcaneus, in the depression, obtained by plantarflexing the foot. The path of the Foot-Taiyang Meridian, it is the Jing-River point. (Jia Yi) At the junction of white skin. (Ming Tang)
Note: Xia, Yitong writes "Shang", which is an error. "Wei Jing", Ben Shu Pian and this book consider Kunlun as the Jing-River point, suspecting an error. Therefore, it is deleted here.
Kunlun (Ling Shu) Posterior to the lateral malleolus, above the calcaneus, it is the Jing-River point. (Ling Shu) In the depression, fine pulse moves under the fingers. (Jia Yi) Lateral malleolus, three cun straight up from the ground, between two tendons and bones. (Qianjin Fang) Puncture for pregnant women may cause abortion. (Zhenjiu Ju Ying)
Note: Ru Men writes "Kunlun" erroneously. Da Quan says: Also known as Xia Kunlun. Zisheng Jing says: Ming Tang has Shang Kunlun and Xia Kunlun. Tong Ren only lists Kunlun and does not record Xia Kunlun. According to Qianjin Yi Fang and Ming Tang, there is Nei Kunlun; thus, Xia Kunlun is not an alias but a different acupoint. San Kunlun is detailed in the Extraordinary Acupoints section. Presumably, one of them is this acupoint. Su Wen says: Posterior to the lateral malleolus, moxa it. Ci Zhu says: It is the Kunlun acupoint.
Fuyang (Jia Yi), also known as Fuyang (Da Quan, Dacheng). Xi-Cleft point of the Yang Qiao Mai. Three cun above the lateral malleolus, anterior to the Taiyang Meridian, posterior to the Shaoyang Meridian, between tendons and bones. (Jia Yi) In the depression. (Ming Tang) In the hollow. (Zisheng Jing) Below Feiyang. (Ru Men)
Note: Fu, Qianjin Fang, Qianjin Yi Fang, Ci Zhu, Waitai Mi Yao, Shengji Zonglu, Zisheng Jing, Da Quan, Baojian write "Fu". Ming Tang, Lei Jing, Zhenjiu Ju Ying, Ru Men, Jinjian, Yitong write "Fu". Wu Wenbing writes "Yang". Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian is here, Taiyang original meridian is here. All texts have no disagreement. However, Taiyang might be a mistake for Shaoyin. Dacheng cites Zhenjiu Ju Ying writing "also known as Fuyang", Da Quan agrees. Fu, Fu, Fu are interchangeable, not aliases; temporarily recorded and not deleted.
Feiyang (Ling Shu), also known as Jueyang (Jia Yi). Seven cun from the ankle, diverging to Shaoyin. (Ling Shu) Above the lateral malleolus of the foot. (Jia Yi) In the depression. (Ming Tang) Posterior to the bone. (Ru Men)
Note: Ling Shu writes "Yang" as "Yang"; Shengji Zonglu, Fahui, Lei Jing, Jinjian agree. Zisheng Jing, Da Quan write nine cun, which is incorrect. Ci Yaotong Pian says: Puncture the Feiyang vessel, five cun above the medial malleolus, anterior to Shaoyin, meeting the Yin meridians, seemingly referring to this acupoint. Ling Shu and Jia Yi both state: Feiyang is the Luo-Connecting vessel of the Foot-Taiyang Meridian, diverging to Shaoyin. However, five cun above the medial malleolus is Ligou acupoint. "Nei" should be "Wai", "Wu" should be "Qi", temporarily recorded awaiting wise judgment. Xin Zheng Jiao of Ci Yaotong Pian has a theory that "five cun" should be "two cun" for Fuliu acupoint; the text is lengthy, so it is not recorded here.
Chengshan (Ling Shu), also known as Yufu, also known as Ruzhu (Jia Yi), also known as Shangshan (Qianjin Fang). One chi below the ground. (Su Wen) Below Duichang, between muscle bellies, in the depression. (Jia Yi)
Note: Shangshan, Baojian, Dacheng write "Changshan", which is correct. , Waitai Mi Yao writes , which is incorrect. Zisheng Jing, Zhenjiu Ju Ying say below the calf; Lei Jing writes the tip below the calf; Ru Men writes take it one chi above the ground with feet arched.
Chengjin (Jia Yi), also known as Chang, also known as Zhichang (Jia Yi). Depressed vessel below . (Su Wen) In the center of Chang, in the depression. (Jia Yi) Acupuncture is contraindicated (Jia Yi).
Note: . Waitai Mi Yao writes , which is incorrect. Qianjin Fang says: Posterior to the tibia, seven cun from the heel. Lei Jing, Zhenjiu Ju Ying, Ru Men, Da Quan, Jinjian follow this. The word "seven cun" is erroneous. Ci Zhu writes "center of like Wai", the words "like Wai" are also erroneous. Waitai Mi Yao cites Jiujifang saying: Use a rope from the sole of the foot to measure to the heel, then cut it off, return this length from the heel upwards longitudinally, the end of the measurement should be at the lower edge of , in the hollow, this is the acupoint. Qianjin Fang Huoluan Pian note also has a method of measuring with a rope, fearing errors, so it is not adopted.
Heyang (Jia Yi) Two cun below the center of the popliteal crease. (Jia Yi)
Note: Qianjin Fang, Fahui, Zhenjiu Ju Ying, Dacheng, Jinjian write three cun. Ru Men, Da Quan, Baojian say one cun, all of which are incorrect.
Weizhong (Su Wen), also known as Zhong (Su Wen), Weizhong (Ling Shu), also known as Xue (Lei Jing), also known as Tui Ao (Jinjian). Center of , it is the He-Sea point. Take it by bending. (Ling Shu) In the popliteal crease, arterial pulse. (Jia Yi) In the middle of bent leg, take from the back. Also said: Behind the knee, in the flexed position. (Ci Zhu) Between two tendons (Shenyjing) In the depression (Lei Jing) Have the person lie prone to take it. (Zisheng Jing) One view: Moxibustion is contraindicated (Fahui)
Note: Wei means bend. Slowly bend the knee to take it. Bingxing Pian says: Bend to take it, that is here. Su Wen says: Puncture the Jie Mai, in , nodules like millet seeds, puncture until black blood shoots out, stop when red blood appears. Ci Zhu says: is Weizhong acupoint. Ling Shu says: The Bladder He-Sea enters Weizhong. Also says: If the vessel is depressed, take Weizhong. Combined with one alias. Zisheng Jing cites Zhenquan saying: Inside the curve.
Weiyang (Su Wen) Lower transport point of the Sanjiao, located on the foot anterior to Taiyang, posterior to Shaoyang, emerging from the lateral aspect of , named Weiyang, it is the collateral of Taiyang. Hand-Shaoyang Meridian. Sanjiao is commanded by Foot-Shaoyang and Taiyin, and is a branch of Taiyang. Five cun above the ankle, diverging to penetrate the intestine, emerging at Weiyang, merging with the main line of Taiyang, entering and connecting with the Bladder, regulating the Lower Jiao. (Ling Shu) Examine by flexing and extending. (Same source) Tip of the popliteal crease. (Ru Men)
Note: Sishi Qi Pian says: Pathogen constrained in Sanjiao, take the large collateral of Taiyang. Jia Yi writes "Suo" as "Qu". Taiyang Yang of the foot was previously written as "Zhi", now corrected according to Jia Yi and other texts. Anterior, Qianjin Yi Fang, Zisheng Jing write "Posterior", missing the four characters "posterior to Shaoyang", likely a textual omission. Jia Yi, lateral aspect below has two tendons between, six cun below Fucheng, this is the collateral branch of Foot-Taiyang. Take it by bending the body. The text "take by bending" refers to Fucheng acupoint. Qianjin Fang, Zisheng Jing, Shengji Zonglu, etc., all write Fucheng, detailed under Chengfu. Six cun below Fucheng, Qianjin Fang, Waitai Mi Yao, Zisheng Jing, Shengji Zonglu all follow it. However, six cun below Chengfu is Yinmen acupoint. Yinmen note says: Six cun below Rou , Rou is another name for Chengfu. Thus, knowing that the five characters "six cun below Chengfu" are notes from Yinmen mistakenly written here. Otherwise, "Fucheng" two characters are corruptions of Yinmen, so not adopted. Qu Shen is a corruption of Qu Shen. Waitai Mi Yao, Ru Men agree. Zisheng Jing, Lei Jing, Wu Wenbing, Baojian, Yitong, Jinjian write Qu Shen, which is correct. Weiyang is actually outside Weizhong, between two tendons, clear regardless of cun measurements. Wei means bend. The meaning of Weiyang is indeed so. Thus, the five characters "six cun below Fucheng" are superfluous. Ci Zhu says: Six cun from the transverse crease below the buttocks, also inheriting the error of Jia Yi. Yixue Gangmu says: Detailed examination of Tong Ren says: Weiyang is six cun below Chengfu. Examining the current classic text, it should be one chi six cun. The Tong Ren theory starts from Jia Yi; the Jia Yi theory lost the two characters "one chi" due to a missing slip. Now examining its location acquisition is correct. Although Jia Yi et al. must use nearby acupoints for annotation, thus mentioning lateral aspect, how could it pass through Yinmen, Fu and take from Chengfu? No classic annotation uses more than one chi. Zhenjiu Ju Ying writes six cun as two cun six fen. Yitong, Wu Wenbing write one cun six fen, which is inexplicable. Ru Men writes two cun outside Weiyang, which is far-fetched. Scholars reading the annotation read "six cun below Chengfu" but do not read "lateral aspect of ", what is their intention? Zhu Zheng Fa Wei deletes "lateral aspect of ", which is the most erroneous. Ci Zhu saying it is on the side above the Fu acupoint is also wrong.
Fu (Jia Yi) One cun above Weiyang, obtained by flexing the knee (Jia Yi). One cun above the transverse crease on the lateral aspect of . (Zeng Zhu)
Note: Later generations did not know that the annotation for Weiyang in Jia Yi contains superfluous text; taking this acupoint five cun below Chengfu is baseless. Jia Yi says "obtained by flexing the knee", which proves this. Qianjin Fang, Qianjin Yi Fang write "extend foot"; Waitai Mi Yao, Zisheng Jing, Fahui, Zhenjiu Ju Ying, Baojian write "extend knee", which is incorrect.
Yinmen (Jia Yi) Six cun below Rou (Jia Yi). Above the popliteal region, between two tendons, six cun from the transverse crease below the buttocks. (Ci Zhu) Moxibustion is contraindicated (Ru Men)
Note: Rou , is another name for Chengfu. Dacheng writes "three cun below Fu ", which is incorrect.
Chengfu (Jia Yi), also known as Rou , also known as Yinguān, also known as Pi Bu (Jia Yi). Below the sacrum and buttocks, in the popliteal crease above the swelling of the medial thigh. (Jia Yi) Moxibustion is contraindicated (Ru Men)
Note: Qianjin Fang, Qianjin Yi Fang, Ming Tang, Zisheng Jing, Da Quan, Ru Men write "Fucheng". Chengfu and Fucheng are used interchangeably. Qianjin Fang, Qianjin Yi Fang write "in the crease below the medial thigh", note says: Alternatively, in the depressed crease below the sacrum and buttocks. Waitai Mi Yao writes "in the upward rushing crease above the medial thigh", alternatively "in the downward rushing crease below the medial thigh". Ming Tang writes "in the horizontal crease below the sacrum and buttocks". Zhenjiu Ju Ying writes "in the horizontal crease above the medial thigh". Ru Men writes "in the transverse crease". Zisheng Jing writes "Chong" for "Zhong". Note: "Zhong" is likely a superfluous character. "Heng" is interchangeable with "Heng" in Jiyun. "Chong" means passage in Shuowen, the meaning seems similar, but there is no reference to the popliteal crease being called Chong crease. "Chong" is suspected to be a corruption of "Heng".
