The Way of Medicine values the ability to perceive the internal state of the Zang-Fu organs (Viscera and Bowels) above all else; this is not because Bian Que received divine transmission. The works of Xuanyuan (Yellow Emperor) and Qibo are intended to teach people how to perceive these organs, yet later generations have neglected them and failed to comprehend, leading to widespread suffering among the people. Fortunately, Mr. Shen Chengzhi compiled the *Jingmai Fenye* (Classification of Meridian Regions), allowing people to perceive the Zang-Fu organs! It is a pity that this book has remained unprinted for nearly two hundred years to date. Although some have benefited from manuscript copies, their number is small, which makes the current publication imperative.
Mr. Shen’s work had already been revised by Mr. Bolu. Mr. Bolu considered the citations too complex and thus added deletions and corrections. Upon receiving this compilation, I rejoiced privately and studied it morning and night. I realized it was still incomplete, so I presumptuously added supplements and revisions, having gone through three drafts. Unexpectedly, in the winter of the Wuchen year, I heard of a gentleman named Wu Pin who lived in seclusion in the western suburbs. Admiring his reputation, I went to seek his instruction. Seeing my hand-corrected draft, he said, "Is this not the original text by Mr. Shen?" He then showed me the version augmented by his relative-in-law, Mr. Gu. I could not help but applaud, feeling fortunate that our insights aligned, yet even more fortunate for this collaboration. Thus, incorporating the additions, expanding the incomplete sections, correcting errors, and deleting redundancies, we may now call it the *Complete Book*, truly an immutable classic.
After Mr. Bolu’s deletion and correction, the *Jingluo Shuyao* (Essentials of Meridians and Collaterals) was appended, hence the title *Jingluo Quan Shu* (Complete Book of Meridians and Collaterals). This seems to be perfect. However, regarding the Zang-Fu organs, meridians, collaterals, and sinews, categories such as regular channels, divergent branches, direct pathways, and collateral branches are all annotated in detail. Repetition is not shunned, with the aim of ensuring readers have no regrets.
The obscurity of Pulse Diagnosis (Mai Xue) is not solely attributable to Gao Yangsheng. There are some corrections of errors within this compilation, left for those with insight to identify.
Medical texts are rarely studied by Confucian scholars, resulting in frequent textual corruptions (such as character substitutions due to visual similarity, e.g., 'Lu' for 'Yu', 'Xu' for 'Hu'). These are most prevalent here. Although there is no time to annotate every pronunciation and sentence meaning, passages with extremely difficult meanings are annotated directly below the original sentences. For rare characters, phonetic annotations are provided at the top margin of the page, hoping to prevent readers from being hindered by linguistic barriers.
