(The black part is called Wu Lun) belongs to the Foot Jueyin Liver Meridian (The *Ling Shu* states: The essence of sinews manifests as the black eye; the Liver governs sinews. It also states: The pupil and black eye follow Yin, while the white eye and red vessels follow Yang; thus, when Yin and Yang coordinate and rotate, clear vision is achieved. Lou Quanshan stated: Prunellae Spicae (Xiakucao, 夏枯草) treats night pain in the eyeballs; for cases where application of bitter-cold herbs aggravates the condition, it is miraculously effective. This is because pain in the white eye belongs to Yang, worsening during the day, and responds to bitter-cold applications; pain in the black eye belongs to Yin, worsening at night, and is aggravated by bitter-cold applications). [White Eye] belongs to the Hand Taiyin Lung Meridian (The *Ling Shu* states: The essence of Qi manifests as the white eye. Note: The Lung governs Qi, hence it is also called the Qi Wheel).
(Also known as Tong Ren) belongs to the Foot Shaoyin Kidney Meridian (The *Ling Shu* states: The essence of bones manifests as the pupil; the Kidney governs bones. It also states: When the Yin Qi of the five Zang organs is exhausted, the visual axis twists, causing dizziness upon viewing. Dizziness indicates that the Zhi (Will) has died first; if the Zhi dies first, death occurs one and a half days later. The Kidney stores Jing (Essence) and Zhi. It also states: When the Foot Shaoyin meridian undergoes pathological changes, the disease manifests with blurred vision or a startled appearance, as if unable to see. It also states: If one asks the patient to look backward, and red vessels are seen within the pupil traversing vertically, seeing one vessel predicts death in one year; one and a half vessels, one and a half years; two vessels, two years; two and a half vessels, two and a half years; three vessels, three years. If the red vessels do not traverse downward through the pupil, the condition is treatable). It also belongs to the Foot Taiyang Bladder Meridian (The *Su Wen* states: Upward deviation of the pupil indicates insufficiency of the Taiyang; fixed upward gaze (Dai Yan, 戴眼) indicates exhaustion of the Taiyang Qi).
(The eyelid, commonly called Yan Bao) belongs to the Foot Taiyin Spleen Meridian and the Yangming Stomach Meridian (The *Ling Shu* states: The essence of flesh manifests as the tissues restraining the eyelids; the Spleen governs muscles. It also states: Slight swelling above the eye sockets, resembling the appearance after waking up, accompanied by pulsation in the neck vessels and frequent coughing, where pressing the dorsum of hands and feet leaves an indentation that does not rise immediately, indicates Feng Shui skin distension. The *Xuan Zhu* states: Swelling of the upper and lower eyelids indicates heat in Spleen Qi. Another view holds: The manifestation of the Spleen is in the eyelids; twitching of the eyelids indicates Spleen digestion capability. In Spleen disease, the eyelids become dry and lethargic. It also states: Spleen deficiency leads to eyelid swelling. Zhu Danxi stated: Wind-heat in the Yangming meridian causes rotting of the eye socket. Shen Chengzhi stated: Directly above the pupils, at the third row of the junction, belongs to the intersection of the Hand Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian and the Yangwei Vessel. Seven fen below the pupil is named Chengqi (ST1, 承泣), belonging to the intersection of the Foot Yangming Stomach Meridian, Ren Mai, and Yin Qiao Mai; one cun below is named Sibai (ST2, 四白), belonging to the Foot Yangming Stomach Meridian). It additionally belongs to the Hand Taiyin Lung Meridian (The *Su Wen* states: Puncturing the vessels in the depression of the orbital bone leads to leakage and blindness. Note: The vessels in the orbital bone are the visual axis, which connects to the Lung meridian. Deep puncture severs the visual axis, causing eye leakage. Leakage of the eye vessels leads to blindness. Qiao Yue stated: The Lung governs the eyelids; Lung exhaustion leads to sunken eyelids). It also belongs to the Foot Jueyin Liver Meridian (The *Su Wen* states: The pattern of Liver Wind is diagnosed beneath the eyes, with a bluish color. Note: Diagnose here means to observe. Dai Fu'an stated: The eyes belong to the Liver; liver deficiency causes pain, which becomes severe in the orbital bones upon exposure to light; Sheng Shu Di Huang Wan (Raw and Cooked Rehmannia Pill) is appropriate).
