This syndrome is characterized by urgent qi in the chest and diaphragm, sudden swelling and pain of the throat, coldness of the hands and feet, and obstruction of qi flow.
Ming Xiong Jing (2 qian) [Realgar], Zhen Yu Jin (1 qian) [Curcuma aromatica Rhizome], Ba Dou Shuang (3 fen) [Crotonis Fructus Frost].
Grind each of the above medicines into fine powder, mix evenly, and refine with honey to form pills the size of white mustard seeds. Take 12 pills per dose, swallowed with boiling water. If the patient has locked jaw or throat blockage, use a thin pen tube to instill the medicine.
Su Geng [Perilla Caulis], Niu Bang Zi [Arctii Fructus], Yuan Shen [Scrophulariae Radix] (Note: Text says 元参, standard is 玄参/Scrophulariae), Chi Shao [Paeoniae Radix Rubra], Huang Qin [Scutellariae Radix], Hua Fen [Trichosanthis Radix], She Gan [Belamcandae Rhizoma], Lian Qiao Ke [Forsythiae Fructum], Jing Jie [Schizonepetae Herba], Fang Feng [Saposhnikoviae Radix] (each 1.5 qian).
Chuan Lian [Coptidis Rhizoma] (Note: Text says 川连, standard is 黄连/Coptidis).
Decoct the above medicines in water and take warm. One dose daily; recovery usually occurs within two to three doses. It must be taken early; delay may render it ineffective.

Sheng Bai Fan Xi Mo (5 fen) [Alumen crude], Wu Ji Dan (1 egg) [Gallus gallus domesticus egg]. Mix evenly and instill into the throat for immediate effect.
Take 2 cun of Wannian Qing root [Qinghai Sophora Root], wash clean, peel off the skin, slice thinly, pound into a paste, add one wine cup of genuine rice vinegar, mix well, hold in mouth and swallow several times. Wait for the 'e' (throat membrane/swelling) to subside.
