Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root) 1 qian, Chenpi (Dried Tangerine Peel) 1 qian, Zhigancao (Honey-fried Licorice Root) 1.5 qian, Caoguo (Tsaoko Fruit) (stir-fried with Wuzhuyu until yellow-black), Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger) 10 slices.
Add one zhong of water, boil until rolling, then strain immediately. Cool rapidly well-water and take cold.
Lengxiang Yinzi (Cold Fragrance Decoction) treats Huoluan (Cholera-like disease) where Yin and Yang are separated, presenting with irritability and a submerged pulse. Caoguo and Chenpi warm the Spleen, resolve dampness, and stop vomiting; Zhigancao and Shengjiang stabilize the Spleen meridian.
Renshen (Ginseng Root) 5 fen, Maimendong (Ophiopogon Tuber) 2 fen, Wuweizi (Schisandra Berry) 9 grains, Huangqi (Astragalus Root) 5 fen, Gancao (Licorice Root) 2 fen (fried), Maoshan Cangzhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Lanceae from Mount Mao) 1 qian, Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome) 5 fen, Fuling (Poria) 2 fen.
The above herbs are cut into small pieces, combined as one dose. Add two zhan of water, decoct to one zhan, remove dregs, and take while very warm.
Qingshu Yiqi Tang (Clear Summerheat and Boost Qi Decoction) is a formula by Li Dongyuan for diseases arising from deficiency and decline of the Spleen and Stomach. In summer, exposure to coolness and consumption of cold drinks damage the Spleen and Stomach internally, suppressing and inhibiting True Yang, causing external Yuan Qi to dissipate. For those struck by Summerheat due to improper diet, sexual excess, or failed heat avoidance, clearing and resolving should be combined with tonification.
Fuling (Poria) 1 liang, Zhuling (Polyporus) 5 qian, Zexie (Alisma Rhizome) 1 liang, Gancao (Licorice Root) 2 liang, Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome) 5 qian, Rougui (Cinnamon Bark) 5 qian (peeled), Huashi (Talcum) 4 liang, Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum)...
Grind the above into powder. Take 3 qian each time, mixed with warm water; fresh water is also acceptable, but ginger soup is superior.
To dispel summerheat, one must eliminate dampness and clear heat. Thus, Wuling San (Five-Ingredient Poria Powder) is used to remove dampness, and "Three Stones" (Huashi, Shigao, etc.) are used to clear heat. Once dampness and heat are removed, it is as if sweet dew falls in early autumn, and summerheat dissipates quietly.
Furthermore,... being the essence of salt, it can cool blood and purge heat, discharging via urination. Zhang Hezi also has Guiling Ganlu Yin (Cassia Twig, Poria, and Sweet Dew Drink). This formula adds Renshen and Muxiang, plus Gegen (Kudzu Root) and Huoxiang (Patchouli). Although it combines tonifying deficiency and dispersing pathogens, patients with dampness contraindicate sweating; thus, Liu Hejian's formula is more specialized.
Chaihu (Bupleurum Root) 1 qian, Huangqin (Scutellaria Root) 1 qian, Guangpi (Broad-leaved Tangerine Peel) 8 fen, Banxia (Pinellia Tuber) 1 qian, Gancao (Licorice Root) 3 fen, Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome, stir-fried) 7 fen, Houpo (Magnolia Bark) 1 qian, Qingpi (Green Tangerine Peel) 7...
Add one zhong of water, one slice of Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger), and one Jujube (Chinese Date). Decoct to 8 fen. Take when the temperature has decreased. Avoid raw, cold, and greasy foods. The *Jisheng Fang* includes Caoguo 1 qian.
The Spleen is not called "Jian" (Strengthening) but "Qing" (Clearing) because the Taiyin Spleen is diseased, requiring the clearance of pathogenic factors overpowered by Shaoyang Gallbladder. Shaoyang and Taiyin are organs with a smooth transmission relationship; Taiyin malaria presents with alternating chills and fever...
