Shengma (Rhizoma Cimicifugae) two liang, Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis) two liang, Shujiao (Fructus Zanthoxyli) one liang (stir-fried until oil exudes), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae) two liang, Biejia (Carapax et Plastrum Testudinis) one piece the size of a finger (roasted), Xionghuang (Realgar) half a liang (ground into powder). The above six herbs are boiled in four sheng of water to obtain one sheng of decoction, taken at once. Elderly and children may take another dose; the goal is to induce sweating. (Original text from *Jingui Yaolue*: For Yin Du syndrome, remove Shujiao and Shengma. This formula enters the Yangming and Taiyin meridians, raises clear qi, expels turbidity, wards off various evils, resolves various toxins, and uniformly treats both Yin and Yang forms of Wen Li (pestilential fevers). Zhimu (Rhizoma Anemarrhenae) six liang, Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae) two liang (roasted), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) one jin, Jingmi (Oryza Sativa Germen) two he, Guizhi (Ramulus Cinnamomi) three liang. The above herbs are cut into pieces. Each time, take five qian, add one dan and a half of water, boil until reduced to eight fen, filter out the dregs, and take warm. Recovery occurs with sweating.

Shuqi (Herba Pteridis Preparata) (washed to remove fishy odor), Yunmu (Mica) (calcined for two nights), Longgu (Os Mastodi) in equal parts. The above three herbs are pounded into a powder. Before onset, take half a qian with Jiangshui (fermented grain water). For Wen Malaria, add half a qian of Shuqi; take one qian bi (coin-sized scoop) at the time of onset. (Note: Jiangshui is... *Jingui Yaolue* calls it Mu Malaria, *Waitai Mi Yao* calls it Pin Malaria, both referring to malaria of the Heart meridian. The above seven herbs are boiled in twelve dou of water to obtain six sheng of decoction. Filter out the dregs and boil again to obtain three sheng. Take one sheng warm each time, twice daily.
Zheng Malaria (typical malaria) features alternating chills and fever, with the pathogen emerging from the Shaoyang meridian. This differs slightly from Shanghan (Cold Damage) where the pathogen emerges from the Shaoyang meridian. *Neijing* states: Summer injury by intense heat, autumn injury... long latent... deep and... therefore...
