则参
Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix) 3 liang, Gan Cao (Licorice Radix et Rhizoma) 3 liang (roasted), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) 3 liang, Gan Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) 3 liang.
The above four herbs are crushed, sifted into powder, and mixed with honey to form pills the size of a chicken egg yolk [Method]. For administration, dissolve one pill in a small amount of boiling water, crush it, and take warm [Method]. Take three to four times daily, and twice at night [Method]. If warmth is not felt in the abdomen, increase the dose to three or four pills per administration [Method]. However, the efficacy of the pill is inferior to that of the decoction. Decoction method: Cut the four herbs according to the specified weights [Method], add eight sheng of water, boil until three sheng remain, remove the dregs [Method], take one sheng warm [Method], three times daily [Method]. Modifications: Li Zhong (Regulate the Middle) regulates the Qi of the Middle Jiao to facilitate interaction between Yin and Yang. The Upper Jiao belongs to Yang, the Lower Jiao belongs to Yin, and the Middle Jiao is the place where Yin and Yang interact. These are all inferior to the decoction, likely because the decoction's nature is easily distributed and transformed, lacking the ability to linger, thus failing to achieve sufficient harmonizing effects. Ren Shen and Gan Cao are sweet to harmonize Yin; Bai Zhu and Gan Jiang are acrid to harmonize Yang. Acrid and sweet flavors assist each other in the center, so Yin and Yang naturally become harmonious and smooth.
Gui Zhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus) 4 liang, Gan Cao (Licorice Radix et Rhizoma) 4 liang (roasted), Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix) 3 liang, Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) 3 liang, Gan Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) 3 liang.
The above five herbs are added to nine sheng of water. First, boil the first four herbs, obtain four sheng of liquid, remove the dregs [Method], then add Gui Zhi and continue boiling until three sheng remain, remove the dregs [Method], and take warm.
Li Zhong Tang (Regulate the Middle Decoction) adds Ren Shen, and Gui Zhi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction) removes Shao Yao (Paeoniae Radix). It is not called Li Zhong Tang but Gui Zhi Ren Shen Tang (Cinnamon Twig and Ginseng Decoction), indicating that Gui Zhi and Li Zhong work separately on the exterior and interior respectively.
Wu Zhu Yu (Evodiae Fructus) 1 sheng (washed), Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix) 3 liang, Sheng Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) 6 liang (sliced), Da Zao (Jujubae Fructus) 12 pieces (split).
The above four herbs are added to seven sheng of water, boiled until two sheng remain, remove the dregs [Method], take seven ge warm [Method], three times daily [Method].
Wu Zhu Yu Tang (Evodia Decoction) is a formula for Jue Yin (Terminal Yin) and Yang Ming (Yang Brightness) diseases. Jue Yin represents the convergence of two Yin meridians, while a spark of Yang Sheng Qi (Vital Qi) resides within it. Therefore, Zhang Zhong Jing treats Jue Yin by protecting this Sheng Qi, hence using Ren Shen...
