Xue Lizhai said: In the year of Ren Shen, I was crushed by a heavily loaded cart and remained unconscious for a long time before regaining consciousness. My chest felt full as if beaten, and my breathing was obstructed. I immediately drank a bowl of hot urine from a healthy child (Tongbian), after which my chest relaxed and qi flow improved, leaving only pain in the lower abdomen. Mr. Xu Donghao, a Taiyin (Court Gentleman) from my hometown, prescribed one dose of Fuyuan Huoxue Tang (Revitalizing Blood Decoction). After passing several sheng (a unit of volume) of bloody stool, the pain and swelling completely subsided. He then took medicines to nourish qi and blood and recovered. Generally speaking, for any traumatic injury, regardless of whether the patient is strong or weak, or whether there is stagnant blood accumulation, it is advisable to take hot child's urine, assisted by wine, to eliminate the old and generate the new; its efficacy is significant. If there is distension or pain in the hypochondrium, or fever with irritability, dry mouth preferring cold drinks, drinking a cup of hot child's urine alone is superior to taking other medicines, without disturbing the zang-fu organs or damaging qi and blood, ensuring safety. I once asked soldiers in military drills how they cured injuries from falling off horses. They all replied that taking hot child's urine led to recovery. This has been verified repeatedly. In the year of Wu Chen, while handling official business at Juyong Pass, I saw seven people injured in a cart overturning, lying on the ground groaning, with one person unconscious. I ordered them all to be force-fed hot child's urine, and none suffered adverse consequences. Furthermore, for any swelling or trauma, applying crushed green onion heated externally is particularly effective.
I treated a man who fell from a horse on his way home in mid-autumn, suffering from internal abdominal pain after drinking several cups of wine. The next morning, he passed stagnant blood naturally through defecation, and his condition stabilized. This was because his primordial qi was sufficient, and the momentum of the wine helped disperse the stagnation.
A man suffered a fall, resulting in abdominal pain and thirst. After eating two pears, his symptoms worsened, with constipation and a sensation of blood rushing upward. I used Danggui Chengqi Tang (Angelica Decoction for Purging the Yangming) added with Tao Ren (Peach Kernel). After the stagnant blood was discharged, he recovered. This occurred because his primordial qi was insufficient, causing the stagnant blood to coagulate due to the cold nature of the food. Therefore, such cold foods are unsuitable for postpartum women and those with open wounds.
A man fell from a ladder in early winter, causing stagnant blood to accumulate in the abdomen. He was treated with Da Huang (Rhubarb Rhizome) and other herbs, but the blood did not discharge. Instead, his chest and diaphragm became more distended and swollen, accompanied by panting and shortness of breath. I administered 3 qian each of Rou Gui (Cinnamon Bark) and Mu Xiang (Aucklandia Root) powders, mixed with warm wine. He immediately passed black blood and regained consciousness, likely aided by the previously ingested medications. This happened because cold congealed and obstructed the flow, so pungent-warm agents were used to disperse the cold.
An elderly man fell from a horse, suffering from abdominal pain. He was given Fuyuan Tongqi San (Revitalizing Qi Powder), taken twice with child's urine, resulting in slight improvement. Subsequently, Siwu Tang (Four Substance Decoction) was administered with Chai Hu (Bupleurum Root), Tao Ren, and Hong Hua (Safflower) for four doses, leading to stabilization.
A man injured his body in a horse fall, experiencing pain. He was treated with Taoren Chengqi Tang (Peach Kernel Decoction for Purging the Yangming) added with Su Mu (Sappan Wood) and Hong Hua, which resulted in immediate recovery upon purgation. He then took Siwu Tang added with Fen Hua (Trichosanthes Root) and Chai Hu for two doses, leading to complete healing.
