(The pathology of this condition belongs to insufficiency of Yuan Qi (Original Qi), with pathogenic factors taking advantage of the deficiency. It can also be contracted through transmission. The disease location is primarily in the Liver and Kidney meridians, hence it often originates on the lower body. The symptoms are somewhat similar to those of Syphilis (Yangmei Chuang) and Chancre.)
Xue Lizhai treated a scholar who suffered from Tian Pao Chuang (Blistering Disease). The lesions were red and painful, accompanied by constipation with incomplete evacuation. After taking wind-dispelling and detoxifying herbs, he developed tongue pain and dry mouth, with a floating and rapid pulse. This indicated that the pathogenic factor had been expelled but Yin deficiency remained. He was prescribed Liu Wei Wan (Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Pill) modified with Gardenia (Shan Zhi) and Angelica Sinensis (Dang Gui). After four doses, the pulse and symptoms subsided rapidly. Subsequently, Ba Zhen Tang (Eight-Treasure Decoction) modified with Gardenia (Shan Zhi) and Moutan Cortex (Dan Pi) was used, causing the lesion color to gradually turn white. Finally, Si Jun Zi Tang (Four Gentlemen Decoction) modified with Dang Gui and Astragalus (Huang Qi) led to recovery.
Another scholar suffered from Tian Pao Chuang. Mistakenly taking wind-dispelling and detoxifying herbs further damaged his Yuan Qi. Due to excessive physical labor, he experienced internal heat, dry mouth, and gum pain. His right Guan position pulse was surging, rapid, and empty upon pressure. This indicated injury to the Spleen and Stomach with hyperactive deficient fire. He recovered after taking Qing Wei San (Stomach-Clearing Powder)-like formulas.
Yet another scholar suffered from Tian Pao Chuang, presenting with nodular or patchy lesions exuding fluid. Both Spleen and Lung pulses were surging and rapid, indicating Wind pathogen invasion. Initially, Jing Fang Bai Du San (Schizonepeta and Saposhnikovia Decoction for Resolving Toxins) modified with Dioscorea Hypoglauca Rhizome (Bi Xie) and Uncaria Ramulus cum Uncis (Gou Teng) was administered for several doses, leading to gradual improvement. However, due to dryness and heat in the mouth, Si Wu Tang (Four Substance Decoction) modified with Gardenia (Shan Zhi), Gou Teng, Honeysuckle Flower (Yin Hua), and licorice segments (Gan Cao Jie) cured him. Later, when generalized pruritus, internal heat, and dry mouth occurred, Liu Wei Wan (Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Pill) was added as an adjuvant, resulting in recovery.
A merchant developed widespread sores after every instance of physical exertion and alcohol consumption. Taking wind-dispelling and toxin-resolving agents resulted in tumor-like masses resembling peaches or chestnuts forming on the face, eyes, chest, back, arms, and flanks. These masses were uneven, itchy, painful, and oozing pus. With severe Qi and Blood deficiency, alternating chills and fever, thirst, and profuse phlegm, the condition was attributed to abundant Damp-Heat and insufficient Yuan Qi preventing self-healing. External application of Dang Gui Ointment was combined with internal administration of Bu Yin Ba Zhen Tang (Nourishing Yin Eight-Treasure Decoction) with five qian of Bi Xie, along with Huan Ji Xiao Du San (Skin-Rejuvenating and Toxin-Resolving Powder) modified with Kudzu Root (Ge Gen) and Gou Teng, each one qian. After more than twenty doses, all symptoms gradually receded. Continuing these main medications with adjuvant regulatory agents, Qi and Blood were restored, and the sores healed after over two months.
A male patient presented with localized swelling, pain, and fever. Symptoms worsened after taking wind-dispelling and heat-clearing herbs. His pulse was deep and solid, indicating pathogens located internally. Fang Feng Tong Sheng San (Saposhnikovia Decoction for Unblocking the Interior and Exterior) was administered, resulting in immediate recovery after one dose. Fang Feng Bai Du San (Saposhnikovia Decoction for Expelling Toxins) was then given for two doses to stabilize the condition. Although this condition is generally considered Wind-Heat, careful differentiation between exterior and interior locations is essential to avoid misdiagnosis.
A pediatric patient suffered from this condition with localized swelling, pain, and fever, and a floating, rapid pulse. Toxic fluid was drained by puncturing, followed by external application of Phellodendri Cortex (Huang Bo) and Talcum (Hua Shi) powder. Jing Fang Bai Du San (Schizonepeta and Saposhnikovia Decoction for Resolving Toxins) was drunk, leading to recovery after two doses.
Another pediatric patient presented with local redness, swelling, and fever. Huang Bo and Hua Shi powder were applied externally, while Da Lian Qiao Tang (Large Forsythia Decoction) was ingested. Improvement was noted after two doses, and full recovery was achieved with Jin Yin Hua San (Honeysuckle Powder).
The grandson of Grand Secretary Mao, aged over ten, developed several blistering sores on the side of his back, accompanied by fever and a rapid pulse. This was diagnosed as Tian Pao Chuang caused by Wind-Heat in the Lung and Stomach meridians. Jing Fang Bai Du San (Schizonepeta and Saposhnikovia Decoction for Resolving Toxins) modified with Scutellaria Root (Huang Qin) and Coptis Rhizome (Lian Zi) was administered. Toxic fluid was removed externally, and Jin Huang San (Golden Yellow Powder) was applied topically. Recovery occurred after four additional doses.
Yang Wenkui suffered from this condition on his abdomen, extending to back and waist pain, with a desire for cold drinks and a rapid pulse that became larger upon pressure. This indicated Heat in both the interior and exterior. One dose of Fang Feng Tong Sheng San (Saposhnikovia Decoction for Unblocking the Interior and Exterior), combined with external application of Jin Huang San (Golden Yellow Powder), reduced the severity by more than half. Two doses of Jing Fang Bai Du San (Schizonepeta and Saposhnikovia Decoction for Resolving Toxins) completed the cure.
