Dr. Xue Lizhai treated a male patient suffering from Shenzang Feng (a skin disease caused by kidney deficiency and wind pathogen). After drinking distilled liquor, he developed cyanotic halos. Following scarification to release blood and application of detoxifying ointments, ulcers formed with exudate, worsening in the late afternoon, resembling leprosy. After taking Yuxian Dan, his eyebrows fell out, he experienced hematochezia, emaciation, and internal heat, with poor appetite; the condition was indeed alarming. Initially, Shengji Xijiao Dihuang Tang was administered, gradually stopping the bleeding. Subsequently, Wuyi Yigong San with added Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) and Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma) was used, improving his appetite. Siwu Tang with added Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), and Mudanpi (Moutan Cortex) reduced the internal heat. Yilao Qufeng Wan decreased the purulent discharge. Further treatment with Bazhen Tang and Mudanpi promoted scabbing. Due to excessive worrying, he developed fever, night sweats, pruritus, and erythematous halos; Jiawei Guipi Tang was prescribed for several doses, alleviating the fever. He recovered after taking Jiawei Xiaoyao San and Liuwei Wan.
Another male patient presented with widespread ulcers, copious purulent discharge, afternoon fever, dry mouth, hot feet, and emaciation. Having taken various wind-dispelling medicines for six years without cure, his Chi pulse was flooding and rapid. This was identified as an ulcer of the Kidney meridian, similar to rashes in pediatric Shengan (Kidney malnutrition). Jiajian Bawei Wan cured him in less than half a year.
A third male patient had widespread ulcers, resembling but not being scabies, with copious pus, especially on the legs, accompanied by itching, irritability, heat, and limb fatigue for over a year. Diagnosed as deficient fire of the Kidney meridian, he recovered immediately after taking Jiajian Bawei Wan.
A fourth male patient, accustomed to rich food and strong wine, suffered from Shenzang Feng spreading over his body. Taking medicines for leprosy worsened his condition. Fumigation with medicated rolls inside blankets caused vomiting, abdominal distension, generalized edema, ulceration, and copious pus, leaving him looking like a corpse without skin.
A fifth male patient with deficiency of the Foot-Taiyin, Shaoyin, and Taiyang meridians suffered from Xuefeng Chuang (Blood Wind Ulcer). Mistakenly taking wind-dispelling and toxin-resolving medicines, and applying topical Banmao (Mylabris) and Badou (Crotonis Fructus), led to muscle ulceration, vomiting, abdominal distension, cold diarrhea, or irritability with thirst. This indicated failure of the Spleen and Stomach; he declined treatment and died within a month.
A sixth male patient had small widespread ulcers with intermittent itching, dry mouth, and thirst. Taking Xiaofeng San aggravated the redness and itching. Taking Yuxian Dan resulted in copious pus, excessive eating, and muscle wasting. His Chi pulse was flooding and rapid, particularly on the left side. This was attributed to insufficient Kidney Water and rising deficient fire. Jiajian Bawei Wan initially stopped the thirst. Buzhong Yiqi Tang with Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus) promoted muscle regeneration. Bazhen Tang with Mudanpi and Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix) aided recovery over more than one hundred doses. Two years later, due to sexual indiscretion, the ulcers recurred. Confused by others' advice, he took Xiaofeng San again, causing recurrence. The previous prescription restored health within a month.
A seventh male patient had pruritus in the genital region with dark discoloration and white scales upon scratching. Scarification exacerbated the itching, causing erythematous halos spreading to the external genitals with continuous exudation. Wind-dispelling medicines affected the limbs similarly, causing thirst with excessive drinking. The left Chi pulse was flooding, rapid, and forceless. This was diagnosed as deficient fire of the Kidney meridian compounded by blood injury. Bazhen Tang with Wuweizi and Mudanpi for over thirty doses gradually resolved symptoms. Jiajian Bawei Wan decoction ingredients were then added, curing him after over one hundred doses.
Liu Hong suffered from damp eczema on the leg for years without cure. His Chi pulse seemed large on light palpation but forceless on deep pressure. This was Kidney Qi deficiency attacked by wind pathogen, named Shenzang Feng Chuang. It was treated with Sisheng Tang. Disbelieving this, he self-medicated with Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) and Lianzi (Nelumbinis Semen), leading to declining Qi and Blood, increased pus, and worsening condition. Two years later, seeking treatment again, he recovered with the original prescription. Limbs have upper and lower distinctions; Zang-Fu organs have deficiency and excess states. Patients often believe bitter-cold medicines eliminate toxin, unaware that Shenzang Feng stems from Kidney Qi insufficiency. Tribulus should be the sovereign herb, Astragalus the minister, with BaiFuzi (Aconiti Kusnezoffii Rhizoma) and Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix) as assistants. Taking toxin-resolving medicines would further deplete Yuan Qi and hasten death.
