Take one pill per dose, three times a day, until recovery.
Yet another formula: Three sheng of Langdangzi (Daturae Fructus), five sheng of wine. Soak, take out, dry in the sun, soak again until the wine is exhausted. Pound and take one qianbi (a small measuring spoon) per dose, three times a day. Do not take too much, as it will exacerbate mania.
Also from *Duanju*: Diankuang Langdang San (Datura Powder for Epilepsy and Mania). Three sheng of Langdangzi (Daturae Fructus). Grind into powder, soak in one sheng of wine for several days, take out, pound, mix with the original soaking liquid, strain to remove dregs, and simmer over water until it can be formed into pills. Take three pills the size of soybeans per dose, three times a day. The mouth and face will feel tight, there will be a sensation of insects crawling in the head, and red spots should appear on the forehead and corresponding areas of the hands and feet. This indicates a sign of recovery. If these signs are not seen, finish taking the medicine.
Yet another formula: Grind Fangkui (Malvae Seed or Root) into powder, take with warm wine, one dao gui to two or three dao gui. Recovery is indicated by a moist body and slight numbness.
Yet another formula: Burn the rope used by a person who hanged themselves, take an amount held by three fingers, and ingest it.
Generally, when dian (epilepsy/mental disorder) attacks, the patient falls to the ground, foams at the mouth, loses consciousness, does not respond to forceful restraint, rises acting like someone with kuang (mania), and may defecate involuntarily. Such cases are difficult to treat.
Formula for treating sudden onset of kuang (mania). Burn toads, grind into powder, take one fangcun bi (square-inch scoop) per dose, three times a day, taken with wine.
Another formula: Lay the patient on the ground, pour cold water over their face, continuing this throughout the day.

Another formula: Bind both hands tightly with a steamer belt. Apply fire moxibustion to the left and right hypochondrium until the lines around the elbows rise. Seven moxa cones per side. After a short while, the patient will speak their own name, begging to leave. Ask questions slowly, then release the hands.
Generally, when kuang (mania) attacks, the patient wants to run, or claims to be noble or divine. All kinds of fire moxibustion methods should be prepared to achieve permanent cure.
If the patient is weeping or groaning, this is caused by evil spirits rather than kuang (mania); treat according to formulas for dispelling evil spirits. *Jin Xiao Fang* records: Ashes from hatched silkworm cocoons, taken with water or wine, cure the condition. This treats wind-dian (wind-induced epilepsy/mental disorder).

Adults take one zi character measure; those under fifteen or frail elderly take half a zi character measure. Take with well water in the morning. Hold a piece of rock sugar in the mouth during a meal; after a while, saliva will flow out like water. If the illness is chronic and saliva is exhausted, a cloth-like substance resembling dried saliva will float on the water surface, making the water clear as a mirror. After saliva is exhausted, eat congee for one or two days. If vomiting is excessive and fatigue is severe, drink one cup of Shexiang Tang (Musk Decoction) to stop it. Cut Musk finely, mix with warm water, and take. Formerly, Minister Jue suffered from dizziness; taking this medicine to expel saliva was effective.
*Ming Huang Za Lu* states that during the Kaiyuan era, there was a famous doctor named Ji Peng. By observing people's complexions and conversations, he could know the depth of their illness without pulse diagnosis. The Emperor heard of this and summoned him to the Ye Ting palace to examine a palace maid. During the day, she laughed, sang, cried, and screamed, appearing manic, but her feet could not touch the ground. Ji Peng observed and said, "This must be due to eating full and exerting great strength, causing a sudden fall." He gave her Yunmu Tang (Mica Decoction) to induce deep sleep. Upon waking, her suffering ceased. She explained that during the birth celebration of Princess Taihua, the palace held grand music and dance performances. As the lead singer, fearing her voice would not be clear and long enough, she ate pig trotter soup until full, then performed a major song on stage. After the song, she felt intense heat in her chest. While playing on a terrace wall, she fell from a height and remained unconscious for a long time before regaining consciousness, resulting in manic illness where her feet could not touch the ground.
