葛氏，耳卒聋。
取鼠胆，纳耳内，不过三，愈，有人云，侧卧沥一胆尽。须臾胆汁从下边出，初出益聋

半日顷，乃瘥。治三十年老聋。
又方，巴豆十四枚，捣，鹅脂半两火熔，纳巴豆，和取如小豆，绵裹纳耳中，瘥。日一
易，姚云，瘥三十年聋。
若卒得风，觉耳中恍恍者。
急取盐七升，甑蒸使热，以耳枕盐上，冷复易。亦疗耳卒疼痛，蒸熨。
又方，栝蒌根削令可入耳，以腊月猪脂煎三沸，出塞耳，每日作，三七日，即愈。
姚氏，耳痛有汁出方。
熬杏仁令赤黑，捣如膏，以绵裹塞耳，日三易，三日即愈。
耳，耳中痛，脓血出方。
月下灰吹满耳，令深入无苦，即自出。
耳聋，菖蒲根丸。
菖蒲根一寸，巴豆一粒，去皮心。二物合捣，筛，分作七丸，绵裹，卧即塞。夜易之，
十日立愈。黄汁，立瘥。
耳中脓血出方。
细附子末，以葱涕和，灌耳中，良。单葱涕亦佳，侧耳令入耳。
耳中常鸣方。
生地黄切，以塞耳，日十数易。
《短剧》，疗 耳，出脓汁散方。
矾石二两，烧，黄连一两，乌贼鱼骨一两，三物为散。即如枣核大，绵裹塞耳，日再易

更加龙骨。
耳聋巴豆丸。
巴豆一枚，去心皮，斑蝥一枚，去翅足，二物合捣筛，绵裹塞耳中，再
易甚验。云此来所用，则良。
又方，磁石，菖蒲，通草，薰陆香，杏仁，蓖麻，松脂，捣，筛为末，分等。蜡及鹅脂
和，硬和为丸，稍长，用钗子穿心为孔。先去耳塞，然后纳于药，日再，初着痒，及作
声。
月余总，瘥，殿中侯监效。
耳卒痛。
蒸盐熨之。
痛不可忍，求死者。
菖蒲，附子各一分，末，和乌麻油。炼点耳中，则立止。
耳，脓血出。
车辖脂，塞耳中。脓血出尽，愈。
附方
肘后方。疗耳卒肿，出脓水方。
矾石烧末，以笔管吹耳内，日三四度，或以绵裹塞耳中，立瘥。
《经验方》，治底耳方。
用桑螵蛸一个，慢火炙，及八分熟，存性，细研，入麝香一字为末，糁在耳内。每用半
字如神效。如有脓，先用绵包子捻去，次后糁药末入耳内。
又方，治耳卒聋。
巴豆一粒，蜡裹针刺，令通透，用塞耳中。
《梅师方》，治耳久聋。
松脂三两，炼，巴豆一两，相和。熟捣可丸，通过以薄绵裹，纳耳孔中塞之，日一度易
。
《圣惠方》，治肾气虚损，耳聋。
用鹿肾一对，去脂膜，切，于豉汁中，入粳米二合，和煮粥，入五味之法。调和，空腹，
令之作羹及酒，并得。
杜壬方，治耳聋，因肾虚所致，十年内一服愈。
蝎至小者四十九枚，生姜如蝎大，四十九片，二物铜器内炒。至生姜干为度。为末，都
作一服，初夜温酒下，至二更尽，尽量饮酒，至醉不妨。次日耳中如笙簧，即效。
《胜金方》，治耳聋立效。
以干地龙，入盐，贮在葱尾内，为水，点之。
《千金方》，治耳聋。
以雄黄，硫黄，等分。为末，绵裹，塞耳中。
又方，酒三升，渍，牡荆子一升，碎之，浸七日，去滓。任性服尽，三十年聋，瘥。
又方，以醇酢，微火煎附子，削令尖，塞耳效。
《外台秘要》，治聋。
芥子捣碎，以人乳调和，绵裹，塞耳，瘥。
杨氏《产乳》方，疗耳鸣，无昼夜。
乌头烧作灰，菖蒲，等分。为末，绵裹，塞耳中，日再用，效。
Ge's Formula, for treating sudden deafness.
Take a mouse gallbladder, insert it into the ear. Within three times, it will be cured. Some say, lie on one side and drip the entire gallbladder. After a moment, the bile flows out from the lower side. Initially, hearing may worsen slightly, but after half a day, the condition improves. This method can treat thirty-year-old chronic deafness.
Another formula: fourteen seeds of Croton tiglium (Baidu Dou), pounded; half liang of goose fat melted over fire; add the Croton tiglium to the fat, mix and form pills the size of small beans. Wrap in cotton and insert into the ear until cured. Change once daily. Yao states this can cure thirty-year deafness.
If suddenly affected by wind pathogen, feeling a vague discomfort in the ears:
Quickly take seven sheng of salt, steam it in a steamer until hot, and rest the ear on the salt. Replace with fresh hot salt when it cools. This also treats sudden ear pain via steaming and compressing.
Another formula: Cut Puerariae Radix (Gualou Gen) into a shape suitable for insertion into the ear. Boil in pig fat from the twelfth lunar month for three boils. Remove and plug the ear. Do this daily for twenty-one days (three sevens), and it will be cured.
Yao's Formula, for treating ear pain with discharge:
Roast Almond kernels until dark red/black, pound into a paste. Wrap in cotton and plug the ear. Change three times daily. Cured in three days.
For treating ear pain with pus and blood discharge:
Blow ash into the full ear canal under moonlight, allowing it to go deep without causing pain. The pus and blood will discharge spontaneously.
Deafness, Acorus Root Pills:
One cun of Acorus calamus root, one seed of Croton tiglium, remove skin and heart. Pound both together, sift, divide into seven pills. Wrap in cotton and insert while sleeping. Change at night. Cured immediately in ten days. Yellow discharge indicates improvement.
For treating pus and blood discharge from the ear:
Fine powder of Aconitum carmichaelii (Fuzi), mixed with onion juice, instilled into the ear. Effective. Onion juice alone is also good; tilt the head to let it enter the ear.
For treating constant ringing in the ears:
Cut fresh Rehmannia glutinosa (Sheng Dihuang), use to plug the ear. Change more than ten times daily.
"Short Treatise", Powder for treating ear disease with pus discharge:
Two liang of Alum (Fan Shi), calcined; one liang of Coptis chinensis (Huanglian); one liang of Sepiae Endoconcha (Wuzeiyugu). Grind into powder. Form pills the size of a jujube pit, wrap in cotton, and insert into the ear. Change twice daily. Add Longgu (Dragon Bone) if necessary.
Deafness, Croton Tiglium Pills:
One seed of Croton tiglium, remove heart and skin; one Mylabris (Banmao), remove wings and feet. Pound together and sift. Wrap in cotton and insert into the ear. Change twice; very effective. It is said that this recent method is excellent.
Another formula: Magnetite (Cishi), Acorus calamus (Shichangpu), Tetrapanacis Medulla (Tongcao), Frankincense (Xunluxiang), Almond kernels (Xingren), Ricinus communis (Bimamu), Pine resin (Songzhi). Pound, sift into powder, equal parts. Mix with beeswax and goose fat to form hard pills, slightly elongated. Pierce a hole through the center with a hairpin. First remove earwax, then insert the medicated pill. Twice daily. Initially causes itching and sound production. After about a month, total cure. Verified by an official of Dianzhong Hou.
Sudden ear pain:
Steam salt and apply as a compress.
Unbearable pain, seeking death.
Acorus calamus (Shichangpu) and Aconitum carmichaelii (Fuzi), each one fen, powdered, mixed with Sesamum indicum oil (Wuma You). Refined and instilled into the ear, stops immediately.
Ear disease, pus and blood discharge:
Grease from cart axles, plug into the ear. When pus and blood are completely discharged, it is cured.
Supplementary Formulas
Zhouhou Fang. For treating sudden ear swelling with pus and water discharge:
Calcined alum powder, blown into the ear with a brush tube, three to four times daily, or wrapped in cotton and inserted into the ear. Cures immediately.
"Experience Formula", for treating bottom ear disease:
Use one Sangpiaoxiao (Mantis Egg Case). Roast slowly over low heat until eighty percent cooked, preserving its nature. Grind finely, add a "zi" amount of Moschus (Shexiang) powder, and sprinkle into the ear. Half a "zi" per use is miraculous. If there is pus, first wipe it away with a cotton ball, then sprinkle the powder into the ear.
Another formula, for treating sudden deafness:
One seed of Croton tiglium, wrapped in wax, pierced with a needle to make it permeable, used to plug the ear.
"Master Mei's Formula", for treating long-term deafness:
Three liang of Pine resin (Songzhi), refined; one liang of Croton tiglium (Baidu Dou), mixed together. Thoroughly pounded into moldable pills. Wrap thinly in cotton and insert into the ear canal. Change once daily.
"Shenghui Fang", for treating kidney qi deficiency causing deafness:
Use one pair of Deer kidney (Lushen), remove fat membrane, slice. Cook with soybean broth and two he of Japonica Oryza Sativa (Jingmi) into porridge. Season according to standard methods. Take on an empty stomach as soup or wine; both are acceptable.
Du Ren's Formula, for treating deafness caused by kidney deficiency, cured within ten years with one dose:
Forty-nine smallest Scorpions (Xie), forty-nine slices of Ginger (Shengjiang) the size of scorpions. Stir-fry in a copper vessel until the ginger is dry. Grind into powder. Take all as one dose. At early night, swallow with warm wine. By the end of the second watch, drink as much alcohol as possible until drunk. No harm. The next day, if the ears ring like a reed pipe, it is effective.
"Shengjin Fang", for immediate effect in treating deafness:
Dry Earthworm (Dilong), put salt inside, store in the tail of a green onion to extract liquid. Instill drops.
"Qianjin Fang", for treating deafness:
Realgar (Xionghuang) and Sulfur (Liuhuang), equal parts. Grind into powder, wrap in cotton, and insert into the ear.
Another formula: Three sheng of wine, soak one sheng of Vitex negundo seeds (Mujingzi), crushed. Steep for seven days, strain. Drink freely until finished. Cures thirty-year deafness.
Another formula: Decoct Aconitum carmichaelii (Fuzi) in strong vinegar over low heat. Shape into a point and insert into the ear; effective.
"Waitai Mi Yao", for treating deafness:
Crush mustard seeds, mix with human milk, wrap in cotton, plug the ear. Cures.
Yang's "Chanru" Formula, for treating tinnitus, day and night:
Burn Aconitum (Wutou) to ash, equal parts with Acorus calamus (Shichangpu). Grind into powder, wrap in cotton, insert into the ear. Use twice daily; effective.
