Apply Yuhu Wan (Jade Pot Pill) and Wugu Wan (Five Cicada Larvae Pill) to the affected area; both are effective.
These prescriptions are recorded in the *Beiji Wansan* (Emergency Pills and Powders).
Another prescription: take soil from under eaves, mix with water, and apply as a poultice.
For bee stings.
Wash the area with human urine.
Another prescription: collect the white latex of mulberry trees (*Morus alba*) and apply it; this is also excellent.
Another prescription: scrape dental calculus (dental plaque/tartar) and apply it, or crush spiders, or boil honeycomb (*Apis ceranae Favus*) and apply it. Burn ox horn into ash, mix with vinegar, and apply. Alternatively, cut open gourds and rub the area, or chew fresh *Artemisia annua* (Sweet Wormwood) leaves and apply them.
Supplementary Prescriptions
*Qianjin Fang* (Essential Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold) treats bee stings.
Use dried honeycomb (*Apis ceranae Favus*), powdered, mixed with lard (*Suis Adeps*), and applied. Yang’s *Chanru* (Obstetrics and Gynecology) suggests washing with decoction of honeycomb, which is also effective.
Also, *Waitai Miyao* (Secret Essentials of the Outer Cabinet) recommends applying fresh mint (*Mentha haplocalyx*), leading to recovery.
Also, *Shenghui Fang* (Prescriptions of Holy Benefit) recommends applying butter (*Ruminantium Lactis*), resulting in cure.
Shen Kuo’s *Bitan* (Brush Talks) records that the recluse Liu Tang, living in seclusion on Mount Wangwu, once saw a large bee trapped in a spider web in his study. The bee was stung by the spider and fell to the ground. Soon after, the spider’s abdomen swelled until it seemed ready to burst. It slowly crawled into the grass and bit an taro stem (*Dioscorea opposita*), breaking it. The spider rubbed its wound against the broken taro stem. After a long while, its abdomen gradually subsided, and it regained its light, restless behavior. Since then, when people are stung by bees, applying taro stems has proven curative.
For scorpion stings.
Soak the area in warm water.
Another prescription: apply purslane (*Portulaca oleracea*), garlic (*Allium sativum*), or chewed dried ginger (*Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens*), which is effective. Yao’s method uses cold water to soak the sting site to prevent pain; if the water becomes slightly warm, pain returns, so change the water frequently. Also, soak coarse cloth in cold water and apply as a compress, changing it multiple times.
New Effective Prescription: equal parts of hibiscus flower (*Hibiscus rosa-sinensis*), pomegranate flower (*Punica granatum*), and mugwort heart (*Artemisia argyi*). Harvest these at noon on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, dry them in the shade, mix and pound them, then mix with water and apply to the sting site for immediate relief. If the two flowers do not work, apply juice from *Bidens pilosa*, leading to quick recovery.
Also, apply lead monoxide (*Minium*) mixed with vinegar, or raw *Aconitum carmichaelii* powder (*Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata*) mixed with saliva and applied. Chew dried ginger and apply. Or seal with musk (*Moschus*), and soak in warm wine for immediate cure.
Supplementary Prescriptions
Sun Simiao’s *Shi Ji* (Dietary Taboos) treats scorpion stings.
Take one qian of alum (*Alumen*), half sheng of vinegar, and boil. Add alum powder to the vinegar and soak the sting site.
Also, *Shengjin Fang* (Golden Victory Prescription): take a small amount of *Aconitum carmichaelii* powder (*Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata*), mix with first-run vinegar, and apply.
Also, Qian Xianggong’s *Qiezhong Fang*: grind *Pinellia ternata* (*Pinelliae Tuber*) with water and apply, stopping pain immediately.
Also, *Shiyi Xinjing* (Heart Mirror of the Food Doctor): grind *Aconitum carmichaelii* (*Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata*) with vinegar and apply.
Also, *Jingyan Fang* (Experience Prescription): apply earwax from a donkey (*Asinus Earwax*) for cure, as recorded in Cui Jishi’s biography.
*Guangli Fang* (Broad Benefit Prescription) treats scorpion stings with persistent pain.
Apply the white latex of paper mulberry tree (*Broussonetia papyrifera*) to the site for immediate recovery.
