Regarding patients with *Shizhu* (Corpse Transmission) and *Guizhu* (Ghost Transmission), Ge Hong stated that this is the *Shizhu* among the Five Corpse conditions, further complicated by various malevolent spirits causing harm. The variations of this disease range from thirty-six to ninety-nine types. Generally, it causes alternating chills and fever, dribbling urination, mental confusion, and muteness, making it difficult for the patient to pinpoint the source of their suffering, yet feeling discomfort everywhere in the body. Over years and months, this gradually leads to stagnation, resulting in death. After death, it can transmit to others, potentially wiping out an entire household. Those who recognize these signs should seek urgent treatment.
Prescription: Take the white inner bark of mulberry trees (*Morus alba*), dry it in the sun, and burn it into ash, obtaining approximately two dou. Place the ash in a steamer (*zeng*) and steam it until the heat penetrates thoroughly, then remove it. Pour three or four dou of hot water from a cauldron over the ash to leach it. Repeat this leaching process three times until the liquid is extremely concentrated. Clarify the liquid to obtain two dou. Use this liquid to soak two dou of adzuki beans (*Vigna angularis*) overnight. Dry the beans, then soak them again in the ash leachate until the liquid is fully absorbed. Steam the beans while moist until cooked. Serve this bean rice with soup made from mutton or venison. Initially, consume one to two sheng per meal until full. For mild cases, consume three to four dou; for severe cases, seven to eight dou. When the disease recedes, the body will feel itching and pain. If the root cause remains, repeat the preparation; it is highly effective.
Another prescription: Fifty peach kernels (*Persicae Semen*). Break and grind them. Boil in water to obtain four sheng. Consume all at once. Vomiting should occur. If the pathogenic factor is not completely expelled, prepare and administer again after two or three days. If vomiting does not occur, it is not a *Zhu* disease.
Yet another prescription: Two taels of *Duheng* (*Asarum heterotropoides*), one tael of its stem, approximately half a tael of Ginseng (*Ren Shen*), fourteen bottle gourds (*Hu Zi*), six zhu of pine moss (*Song Luo*), and fourteen adzuki beans (*Chi Xiaodou*). Grind into powder. Administer as a powder, one fangcun bi (a square-inch measure) with warm water in the early morning. One should vomit numerous substances by evening. If not fully expelled, take it again later.
Another prescription: One liver of a water civet (*Ta*). Dry it in the shade and grind into powder. Take one fangcun bi with water, three times daily. If one liver does not cure the condition, prepare another. Yao states this method is miraculous and excellent.
Another prescription: One tael each of Cinnabar (*Zhusha*) and Realgar (*Xionghuang*), half a tael each of *Guijiu* (*Podophyllum*) and [missing character] grass, forty seeds of Croton (*Badou*) (dehulled and deseeded), and two centipedes (*Wugong*). Grind together, mix with honey to form pills the size of small beans. If swallowing is difficult, take two pills. This can also be taken long-term. Yao’s method involves burning hair into ash and frying apricot kernels until purple, in equal parts. Grind into a paste-like consistency, mix with lard and wine, form pills the size of paulownia seeds, and take three times daily until cured.
There are also major prescriptions such as Huatuo’s Lynx Bone Powder (*Ligu San*), Dragon Tooth Powder (*Longya San*), and Sheep Fat Pills (*Yangzhi Wan*), which are included in larger formula collections, as well as the Huainan Pill received by Emperor Cheng. These all treat transmission diseases that can lead to family extinction. Women and children often suffer from *Zhuche* (Vehicle Transmission), *Zhuchuan* (Boat Transmission), chest oppression, confusion, headache, and vomiting. Those with such rashes should use preventive formulas.
Plantain seed (*Cheqianzi*), [missing character] under the cart, plum root bark (*Ligenpi*), Shichangsheng (*Lithospermum*), and Xu Changqing (*Cynanchum auriculatum*), several taels each, in equal proportions. Coarsely grind and place in a square pouch, storing half he. Tie it to the belt or head. For *Zhuchuan*, expose it to the sun after entering water, wear it together with this pouch, and when boarding a boat, carve wood chips from that specific boat, burn them to ash, and take with water.
Attached Prescriptions
*Zimu Milu* treats *Shizhu*. Burn human hair clumps to the size of a chicken egg. Grind into powder and take with water; the patient will recover.
*Shiyi Xinjing* primarily treats *Chuanshen* (Passing Corpse), ghost qi, cough, [missing character] pi, *Zhuqi*, blocked blood and qi, and progressive emaciation. Prescription: One tael of peach kernel (*Persicae Semen*), peeled and cored, crushed. Boil in one and a half sheng of water to extract juice. Add rice and cook into porridge. Eat on an empty stomach.
