Ge Shi's Formula: Whenever a snakebite wound has not yet healed, hot food is prohibited. If hot food is consumed, the condition will flare up; treatment should follow the methods used for the initial snakebite.
Formula for treating nine orifices bleeding after a snakebite.
Take fourteen biting flies (Tabanidae) whose abdomens are full of blood from recently feeding on cattle or horses. Burn them and administer orally.
The above formulas address treating ulcerated snakebites and severe swelling, as well as cases where fangs break off and remain in the flesh with unbearable pain.
Apply the liver of a toad (Bufo bufo gargarizans) to the wound; the fang will be expelled immediately.
Another formula: Secretly collect leaves of Nymphoides peltata (Xingye), piercing a hole in the center without letting others see. Cover the wound with two leaves. After a moment, the hole in the leaves aligns with the broken fang, causing it to snap out.
Formula for treating pain and toxicity caused by snake bone spicules penetrating the body.
Take iron powder (Tie Jing) the size of a soybean and blow it into the wound using a tube. Yao's view is identical.
Another formula: Burn dead mice until charred, crush them, and apply the powder to the wound.
Formula for treating lingering toxicity remaining in the muscles after a snakebite wound has closed, manifesting as wandering stinging pain and itching.
Take one sheng each of large garlic and small garlic. Crush them together, pour hot water over the mixture to extract the juice, and irrigate the wound. Yao's view is identical.
Formula for resolving sudden entanglement by a snake that cannot be loosened.
Irrigate with hot water to resolve the entanglement; alternatively, allow the patient to be near urine.
Formula for a snake entering the mouth and unable to exit.
Moxibustion on the snake's tail will cause it to exit. If fire is unavailable, cut around the snake's tail with a knife until the skin is severed, then invert and peel back the skin to remove the snake. The "Duan Ju" text records this identically.
In the seventh and eighth lunar months, the venom of various snakes is potent and cannot be excreted. They bite grass and trees, causing them to wither and die. This plant is named [She Xian/Snake-holding] (Note: Text implies a specific toxic plant associated with snakes). It injures people more severely than a snakebite; treat it according to the methods for snakebites.
Attached Formulas:
"Guang Li Fang": Treats snakebite wounds.
Wash the wound with warm wine, changing the application three times daily.
"Sheng Hui Fang": Treats snakes entering the mouth and invading the seven orifices.
Slaughter a sow, drip blood from the root of the pig's tail into the patient's mouth; the snake will exit.
Formula to repel various snakes.
Same as the method of Immortal Yao for entering mountains and forests described previously.
Although there are many herbs to repel snakes, realgar (Xionghuang) from Wudu is superior. Carry a stone weighing five liang at the elbow; then no snake venom will dare to attack. If others are bitten, grind the realgar for treatment. Also carrying "Wugu Huang Wan" is effective. Because the pill contains centipedes, this formula is included in the emergency preparations. The following taboos state that if one does not observe these prohibitions, the treatment will be ineffective.
Do not cross water after being bitten by a snake; doing so will intensify the pain beyond the initial bite.
One should visualize a large centipede crossing ahead of oneself. If crossing by boat without this visualization method, death may result.
When entering mountains, do not call snakes by their name; refer to them by euphemisms like "long chong" (long worm). If one is bitten due to misnaming, extra caution is required.
Method to repel snakes: Burn antelope horn wherever you go, allowing smoke to rise from the ground; the snakes will depart.
Attached Formula:
"Guang Li Fang": Treats fatal snakebites and repels snakes.
Equal parts of dried ginger (Ganjiang) and realgar (Xionghuang). Grind together, store in a small silk bag, and tie to the arm. Men tie to the left arm, women to the right. Snakes avoid the scent of the medicine. For human envenomation, apply externally.
