Postpartum blood loss leads to labor injury, and combined with improper nursing care, the generation of Qi and Blood is insufficient. The Qi of the Spleen and Lung is weak and cannot transport and distribute the essence from food and water, leading to bone-steaming consumption fever (a type of deficiency heat feeling as if emanating from the deep marrow). If it is a wealthy family, although there are fine foods and medicines for nourishment, often due to dissatisfaction with other matters, anger stirs up Liver Fire, consuming the newly generated Blood, which also leads to reduced appetite, emaciation, weakness, and fatigue. Moreover, women who have just given birth originally belong to a state of Blood deficiency; the newly generated Blood is scarce. Once damaged and consumed, Yin Blood becomes even more deficient. How can it not form internal heat and bone steaming? Even among poor people, not only are there no fine foods and medicines to nourish Qi and Blood, but they must also breastfeed their children themselves. How can the newly generated Blood become sufficient suddenly? If the constitution is originally thin and weak, how can one avoid Yin deficiency with internal heat forming bone steaming? Even if the original constitution is strong, having given birth several times and breastfeeding personally, the facial appearance often looks older than the actual age. From this, it can be inferred that generally, postpartum conditions easily develop into *Ru Lao* (chronic consumptive disease after childbirth due to deficiency).
Therefore, to treat postpartum weakness, use *Shen Gui Tang*; for symptoms manifesting as alternating chills and fever like malaria, use *Bai Fuling San*; for complex deficiency syndromes presenting as *Ru Lao*, use *Bie Jia Tang*; for those without obvious disease but feeling weak, use *Shiquan Dabu Tang* or *Danggui Yangrou Tang*. For treatments targeting postpartum bone steaming, first take *Qinggu San*, then take *Baozhen Tang*. There is also *Jiawei Dizao Wan*, which can also treat bone-steaming consumption fever. *YiTong* states: Postpartum *Ru Lao* is caused by difficult delivery, extreme physical exhaustion, worry and mental labor, or improper postpartum care, leading to emaciation, shortness of breath, chills and fever like malaria, joint pain, headache with spontaneous sweating, limb fatigue, cough with reverse flow of phlegm, abdominal cramping and stabbing pain. One should primarily support the Righteous Qi, using *Liujunzi Tang* added with *Danggui*. If there is Spleen and Lung Qi deficiency with cough and dry mouth, use *Yigong San* added with *Maidong* and *Wuweizi*. For Qi deficiency causing dizziness, use *Buzhong Yiqi Tang* doubling the dosage of *Danggui* and *Huangqi*. For Liver Channel Blood deficiency causing limb pain, use *Siwu Tang* added with *Renshen*, *Fuling*, *Baizhu*, and *Guizhi*. For Kidney and Liver deficiency with spontaneous and night sweats, and alternating chills and fever, use *Liuwei Dihuang Wan* added with *Wuweizi*. For Spleen deficiency and Blood weakness causing abdominal pain and irregular menstruation, use *Guipi Tang* doubling *Muxiang*. For Blood deficiency with heat, use *Zengsun Chaihu Tang*. For bone-steaming consumption fever with bloody cough, use *Yigong San* removing *Baizhu*, adding *Shanyao*, *Danpi*, *Wuweizi*, *Ejiao*, and *Tongbian*. For fever without phlegm and dry cough, use *Xiaoyao San*, frying *Jiang* and *Ju Pi* in honey, and steaming *Baizhu* in honey. For postpartum deficiency damage, frequent chills and fever, or inability to recover Yuan Shen after one or two years, with amenorrhea, first give *Qianjin Danggui Shaoyao Tang*, then regulate and tonify with *Wuji Ji Wan*. Generally, this syndrome is mostly due to Spleen and Stomach weakness, reduced diet, leading to fatigue. One should tonify the Spleen and Stomach and promote appetite, so that all Zang-Fu organs have reliance, and the disease will heal itself.

Black-boned Chicken (one, must select white silk-feathered type. For male patients, use female chicken; for female patients, use male chicken. Select tender and long ones, suffocate by inversion, soak to remove feathers, cut open flank with bamboo knife to remove gizzard and liver, remove filth, keep Ji Neijin. Remove intestinal dirt, put back inside abdomen), Shu Di Huang (4 liang; if blood heat, add Sheng Di Huang 2 liang), Bei Wuweizi (1 liang, crushed). Put these two ingredients into the chicken abdomen. Use aged wine or fermented rice wine, Tongbian (child's urine), 2 bowls each, plus several bowls of water. Simmer in a clay pot, adding liquid as needed, until tender and juices are exhausted. Huangqi (3 liang, skin removed, mixed with honey and wine and roasted), Yuzhu (3 liang, steamed over rice nine times), Bai Fuling (peeled clean), Danggui Shen (washed in wine), Shaoyao (stir-fried in wine, 2 liang each). This is because the chicken belongs to Xun (Wind/Wood) and tonifies the Liver; the wonder lies in the black bone benefiting the Kidney, transforming Xun back to Kan, where Jia and Gui share the same source (Liver and Kidney share the same origin), simultaneously nourishing the Chong and Ren vessels.
