1. Misuse of Qi-consuming and Qi-regulating medicines postpartum. When experiencing fullness and oppression in the chest and diaphragm, even Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) should not be used in doses exceeding 5 fen.
2. Misuse of food-resolving medicines often damages Stomach Qi and reduces appetite, potentially leading to an inability to eat, and causes blood stasis clots to persist.
3. In cases of body heat, misuse of Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Lianzi (Coptidis Rhizoma), Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus), and Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex) damages Stomach Qi and exacerbates heat, potentially leading to an inability to eat and causing blood stasis clots to persist.
4. If Shenghua Tang (Decoction for Postpartum Transformation) is not taken within three days after delivery to resolve blood stasis clots, do not lightly use Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), or Shudihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata), as this may prevent the resolution of clots and lead to critical danger.
5. Do not use Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix) as it impedes the discharge of lochia. Do not solely use Zhishi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus), Zhike (Aurantii Fructus), or Niuxi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix) to eliminate clots.
6. Do not use Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) or Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas) to promote bowel movements, as this may cause diarrhea leading to abdominal distension (Gu Zhang).
7. Do not use Sumu (Sappan Lignum), Sanleng (Sparganii Rhizoma), Pengze (Curcumae Rhizoma), or Niuxi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix) to move blood stasis, as this may damage newly generated blood.
8. It is common practice to decoct a single herb, Shanzha (Crataegi Fructus), to attack blood stasis; this can result in critical illness and death, which must be known.
9. Do not take Jidi Dan (Jidi Pill) two or three pills to expel the placenta or dead fetus.
10. Do not blindly trust texts such as *Chanbao Baiwen* (Hundred Questions on Childbirth Treasures) and *Furen Liangfang* (Good Formulas for Women).
It is advisable to take Shenghua Tang (Decoction for Postpartum Transformation), following the dosages specified previously, taking it frequently for several doses. This will promptly disperse clots and stop pain, promoting abundant blood flow and mental vigor. Even for young and strong postpartum women without illness, taking a few extra doses is beneficial for nourishing blood. Apply warm clothing heated by ironing to the mother's abdomen to facilitate the dispersion of blood clots; this should be done even in summer. One pill of Yimu Wan (Motherwort Pill), one qian of Lujiaohui (Ash of Deer Antler), and one of the three formulas of Shixiao San (Formula for Painless Relief) can be used to move blood stasis. Harsh drugs such as Sumu (Sappan Lignum), Pengze (Curcumae Rhizoma), and Sanleng (Sparganii Rhizoma) must not be used. Even Shanzha (Crataegi Fructus) can cause great harm if taken by weak individuals.
It is advisable to take several doses of Shenghua Tang (Decoction for Postpartum Transformation) until the mother regains her spirit, then stop the medication. If symptoms such as blood syncope, pale complexion, or excessive sweating occur, add 3-4 qian of Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) to Shenghua Tang (Decoction for Postpartum Transformation). Carefully avoid diagnosing "evil blood snatching the heart" and recklessly administering blood-breaking medicines that harm people.
It is advisable to take Shenghua Tang (Decoction for Postpartum Transformation), taking it warm for several doses. Deliver one pill of Yimu Wan (Motherwort Pill) with the first decoction, and another with the second decoction. Externally, apply heated clothing to warm the mother's abdomen. Under no circumstances should the mother sit on a night chamber pot or on a person during winter while waiting for the placenta to descend, as severe cold often damages the mother. The mother must be helped onto the bed, covered with blankets, kept warm with a fire basket, and concurrently given Shenghua Tang (Decoction for Postpartum Transformation) to assist blood circulation and prevent loss.
