Postpartum Huoluan (acute intestinal obstruction with vomiting and diarrhea) is caused by fatigue damaging Qi and Blood, deficiency and impairment of the Zang-Fu organs leading to an inability to transform and transport food, as well as contraction of wind-cold. The ascending and descending functions of Yin and Yang are not smooth; clear and turbid energies become chaotic in the intestines and stomach; cold and heat are unbalanced; pathogenic factors contend with healthy Qi, resulting in upper vomiting and lower diarrhea, a condition named Huoluan.

Wenzhong San (Middle-Warming Powder): Treats postpartum Huoluan with persistent vomiting and diarrhea, suitable for cases without blood stasis pain.

Use fresh ginger as a guide drug.
For Huoluan occurring more than seven days after childbirth, Liujunzi Tang (Six-Gentleman Decoction) may also be used.
The human Stomach Fu organ is the sea of water and grain. The essence of water and grain transforms into Qi and Blood, nourishing and moistening the intestinal Fu organs. Postpartum fatigue damages the Zang-Fu organs, allowing cold pathogens to easily invade the intestines and stomach, leading to vomiting, rebellious Qi, and inability to eat. (If the pulse is wiry and slippery, it indicates vomiting due to food stagnation; refer to the section on food stagnation.)
Jiajian Shenghua Tang (Modified Life-Generating Decoction): Treats postpartum vomiting and inability to eat.
