Various schools cleverly establish disease names: Zhuye Tang (Bamboo Leaf Decoction) is used to treat Zifan (pregnancy-related restlessness due to heat disturbing the heart); Anrong San (Anning Powder) is used to treat Zilin (pregnancy-related dysuria with short, red, and painful urination); Tianxianteng San (Akebia Vine Powder) is used to treat Ziqi (pregnancy-related edema); Lingyangjiao San (Antelope Horn Powder) is used to treat Zixian (pregnancy-related eclampsia characterized by convulsions and coma); Quansheng Baizhu Fang (Quansheng Atractylodes Formula) is used for Zizhong (pregnancy-related swelling); and Zisuye Fang (Perilla Leaf Formula) is used for Zixuan (pregnancy-related chest and hypochondriac distension with restless fetus). The conditions before delivery are not limited to these few names; they all stem from the deficiency of Qi and Blood in the pregnant woman, or arise from external pathogenic factors causing various symptoms that disturb the fetus. How can it be that the fetus has a disease while the mother does not? Names such as Zifan, Zilin, and Zizhong are merely clever terms coined by later generations to describe the manifestations of pre-delivery illnesses. My approach is to treat according to the syndrome, mostly modifying Danxi Xiansheng's Antai San (Danxi's Fetus-Securing Powder), without any errors.
For cases where children born after multiple deliveries lack vitality, or survive but have short lifespans, this is due to insufficient Qi and Blood in the parents. If one cherishes Essence and practices restraint in sexual activity, Marrow will fill and bones become firm. Coupled with marriage to a woman with robust Qi and Blood, the offspring will naturally be vigorous and long-lived. If a man with strong Yang mates with a weak woman, the mother lacks surplus Blood to nourish the fetus, necessitating herbal supplementation to cultivate the Yuan (Source) of the fetus, thereby ensuring healthy and long-lived offspring. Furthermore, if a young woman mates with an elderly, declining man, they must sleep in separate beds, reduce sexual desire, use herbs to calm the Spirit, calculate the menstrual cycle precisely, and engage in intercourse only after securing Essence. This constitutes the foundation of Qianyuan (Paternal Origin) initiating life and enriches Kunyuan (Maternal Origin) generating life. The Classic states: "Therefore, harmonize them, and you will attain the standard of the Sage." If one does not avoid sexual temptation, Minister Fire (Xianghuo) easily stirs; even without actual intercourse, secret leakage and damage occur frequently. When Yin is peaceful and Yang is secure, the Spirit is regulated; when Yin and Yang separate and rupture, the Spirit perishes. I subsequently formulated two prescriptions to truly supplement congenital insufficiency. After conception, they should be taken frequently to preserve the fetal Yuan, ensuring the child is vigorous and long-lived. These have proven effective many times, so I record them for others.
This treats children lacking vitality after multiple deliveries, or those who survive but have short lives; it also tonifies deficient Qi and Blood, stabilizes pregnancy, or prevents recurrent miscarriages. Take fifteen doses per month according to the formula; for severe weakness, take one dose daily. It greatly benefits the fetus and facilitates delivery, and ensures the child is vigorous and long-lived. It is a highly effective empirical prescription.
Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, 1 qian; use 2 qian for very weak individuals) Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 2 qian) Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, 2 qian) Chuan Xiong (Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizoma, 8 fen) Huai Sheng Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata, steamed self-made, 2 qian) Tiao Qin (Scutellariae Radix, 2 qian) Chai Hu and Zi Su (Bupleuri Radix and Perillae Folium, 4 fen) Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, 4 fen) Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 4 fen)

Additional modifications: For those with weak Spleen and Stomach and frequent diarrhea, add Lotus Semen (10 pieces) and Cardamomi Fructus cum Testa (3 fen), and reduce the dosage of Sheng Di Huang. For those prone to anger and diarrhea, add Aucklandiae Radix (2 fen). For chronic dry mouth and thirst, add Ophiopogonis Radix (1 qian). Xiantian Dazao Wan (Congenital Great Creation Pill - particularly excellent for assisting pregnancy)
Zi He Che (Human Placenta, one unit; best from a robust first-time mother; if fresh, remove blood vessels, boil until soft with wine and water, then mix evenly with other herbs) Shan Yao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma, 1 liang) Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, 1.5 liang) Gui Shen (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 2.5 liang) Mai Dong (Ophiopogonis Radix, 1 liang) Wu Wei Zi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus, 5 qian) Huang Bo (Phellodendri Cortex, 8 fen; contraindicated for those with chronic diarrhea) Tian Dong (Asparagi Radix, 1 liang) Huai Sheng Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata, 2 liang)
For those with weak Spleen and Stomach and frequent diarrhea, reduce Sheng Di Huang and use Bai Zhu (1 liang). Grind all ingredients into fine powder. Prepare honey pills: first steam and mash Sheng Di Huang and Mai Dong into a paste, then add the herbal powders, and pound for over a thousand strokes. Form pills the size of mung beans. Take 100 pills on an empty stomach with clear soup. Avoid eating Radish (Raphani Semen).
