Contemporary people recklessly established conception-promoting prescriptions, mostly using Cyperi Rhizoma (Xiangfu) as the main ingredient, which severely damages Qi and Blood. Long-term consumption leads to fatigue, lower back pain, and even chronic diseases resulting in infertility. Occasionally, some women conceive after taking Jiaojiao San (Interlaced Powder), but this is merely because young women often suffer from anger-induced Qi stagnation; this prescription suppresses Qi and unblocks the Ying (Nutritive) vessels, so it works by chance. How can it be regarded as a good prescription and cherished for seeking offspring? Moreover, infertility is mostly due to insufficient Yin-Blood failing to nourish and fill, or repeated miscarriages damaging Yin-Blood, dysmenorrhea, or an empty uterus. Those seeking offspring must take Buyin Dazao Wan (Nourishing Yin Great Creation Pill) for three or four courses to assist Yin-Blood, with remarkable efficacy for the first pregnancy. For those with long-term dysmenorrhea, add one liang of Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix (Niuxi) and five qian of Corydalis Rhizoma (Yanhusuo) to the pills for regulation. For those who miscarry repeatedly after conceiving, they must take Danxi Antai Yin (Danxi Fetus-Stabilizing Decoction) for more than ten doses every month after conception is established, which can ensure safety.
Buyin Dazao Wan (Nourishing Yin Great Creation Pill): Treats individuals with Blood deficiency and Qi weakness who cannot retain and fill Essence-Yuan to form a fetus, or who suffer repeated miscarriages, or whose children do not live long. If there are deficient heat, night sweats, poor appetite, and excessive leukorrhea after pregnancy, this prescription is also suitable.
Ziheche (Human Placenta, one piece) Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, two liang) Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, two liang) Tiandong (Asparagi Radix, one liang three qian) Beiwuweizi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus, five qian) Duzhong (Eucommiae Cortex, seven qian, stir-fried with ginger juice) Shanyao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma, eight qian) Niuxi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix, wine-fried, one liang) Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex, salt-fried, seven qian) Huaishengdi (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata, self-steamed, two liang).
Mix and make into pills, taken in the same manner as Xiantian Dazao Wan.
Contemporary physicians use Qi-consuming drugs such as Aurantii Fructus (Zhike) and Cyperi Rhizoma (Xiangfu) to create prescriptions for "shrinking the fetus" to facilitate delivery. The name is not without basis. They imitated the ancient method of alchemists presenting the Zhike Shoutai Fang (Aurantii Fructus Fetus-Shrinking Prescription) to Princess Huyang, adding several Qi-consuming herbs, cleverly naming the formula, causing people to believe and take it, deceiving the world and harming people for a long time. The alchemist presented this prescription for Princess Huyang because she lived in luxury, became obese, ate rich food, had a large fetus, and suffered prolonged difficult labor. It worked by chance. The damage to fetal Yuan-Qi and shortened lifespan were not blamed on this prescription. How can ordinary people take it indiscriminately? By the ninth month of pregnancy, the fetal form is complete. The mother's Qi and Blood must nourish both mother and fetus simultaneously, so medication should ideally be used to tonify. If the mother is weak, she should have been tonified in previous months; if Qi is consumed now, the mother cannot even sustain herself, let alone share surplus Blood to nourish the fetus. Thus, the fetal Yuan-Qi is starved, becoming increasingly frail and thin. There is no effect of shrinking the fetus for easier delivery, but rather harm of depleting Yuan-Qi and shortening life. The pregnant woman's Qi and Blood are also depleted, often leading to difficult labor, postpartum blood syncope and fainting, and various critical illnesses caused by this, though people are unaware. Youwu San (Worry-Free Powder), Baoqi San (Qi-Preserving Powder), and Shenqin San (Divine Rest Powder) recorded in *Furen Liangfang* (Good Prescriptions for Women) should all be avoided.
Zirong Yichan Tang (Nourishing Prosperity Easy Delivery Decoction) (Beneficial for pregnant women at nine months):
Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, one qian) Chuanxiong (Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizoma, one qian) Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, three qian) Fuling (Poria, eight fen) Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, four fen) Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, five fen) Dafupi (Arecae Pericarpium, eight fen) Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, eight fen) Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, eight fen) Yimucao (Leonuri Herba, two qian) Huaishengdi (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata, two qian).
Decoct in water and take orally.
Dasheng San (Da Sheng Powder): Take near term to invigorate Blood and remove stasis; add Renshen for deficiency. Another version contains Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix) and Renshen, which is especially good. (This version has no additions in the secret manuscript.)
Dafupi (Arecae Pericarpium, ginger-processed, one qian five fen) Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, one qian five fen) Congye (Allii Fistulosi Folium, three stalks) Huangyangnao (Yangboxy Lignum, seven pieces).
In spring, add Chuanxiong (Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizoma) and Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix); in summer, add Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) and Wuweizi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus); in autumn, add Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma); in winter, add Sharen (Amomi Fructus Rotundus) or Mutong (Akebiae Caulis). For restless fetus, add Ejiao (Colla Corii Asini); for rebellious Qi, add Zisu (Perillae Folium) and Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix); for irritability, add Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix); for thirst, add Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix) and Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix).
