Method for Sublimating Camphor
Use Zhang Pian (Camphor Chips, 1 liang)
Bo He Ye (Menthae Haplocalycis Folium, 1 liang)
High-quality porcelain bowl (one)
Spread the Bo He Ye at the bottom, place the Zhang Pian on top of the herbs, cover with the high-quality porcelain bowl, seal tightly with wet paper to prevent gas leakage, heat slowly over a charcoal brazier until three incense sticks have burned down. Remove the bowl; the substance condensed on the underside of the lid is Zhang Shuang (Camphor Frost).
Method for Sublimating San Xian Dan
Shui Yin (Hydrargyrum, 1 liang)
Qing Fen (Calomelas, ground, 1 liang)
Huo Xiao (Natrii Nitras, ground, 1 liang)
Use one large silver pot. Place the three ingredients inside. Cover with a smaller pot, seal tightly with salt mud to prevent leakage. Heat over charcoal fire until three incense sticks have burned down. Remove and allow to cool completely. The substance under the small pot is Dan Tou (Top part of the cinnabar); the substance at the bottom of the large pot is Dan Di (Bottom part of the cinnabar). Use Dan Di to extract toxins and Dan Tou to promote wound healing.
This insufflation powder is highly effective for various sores and toxic swellings. In one variation, Xiao (Saltpeter/Niter) replaces Bai Fan (Alumen), using a small pot covered with a porcelain bowl for sublimation.
