Treats Heart Fire encroaching upon Spleen-Stomach deficiency, failing to nourish and enrich the Yuan Qi of the Upper Jiao. During winter, when Kidney and Bladder Cold Water is prosperous, following the principle that "the child can make the mother full" (Wood generates Fire, but here referring to the generative cycle influencing pathological excess), Lung Metal and Large Intestine assist in overcoming Heart Fire and encroaching upon Spleen-Stomach. This constitutes a severe retaliatory constraint (Da Fu). The Classics state: "Great excess leads to great restitution." Consequently, between the skin, hair, blood vessels, and muscle layers, Yuan Qi is exhausted externally. When both Great Cold and Great Dryness pathogenic factors simultaneously encroach upon this state, symptoms include aversion to wind and cold, tinnitus, pain radiating from the waist and back to the chest, nasal congestion, loss of smell, cold forehead with brain pain, frequent dizziness of the eyes, and reluctance to open the eyes. Abdominally, Cold Water counter-attacks, leading to profuse salivation and froth, food being vomited after ingestion, constant abdominal pain, Heart and Stomach pain, tightness and contraction under the hypochondrium, intermittent pain, inability to strain during defecation, frequent diarrhea rather than constipation, continuous lower Qi expulsion, or borborygmus. These are extreme manifestations of Spleen-Stomach deficiency. Turbulence of Qi in the chest causes mental restlessness and anxiety, progressing towards Huoluan (Cholera-like syndrome). Obstruction in the diaphragm and pharynx causes dysphagia; in severe cases, there is noise, wheezing, and closure. Symptoms may worsen during the day due to Yang suppression or improve slightly in warm rooms, but recur upon inhaling Wind-Cold. Extremities become cold and reversed, the body feels heavy and immobile, the head cannot turn back, urine is scanty with occasional irritability. This medicine treats the Da Fu Qi (restitutive pathogenic factor) caused by Cold and Coolness in Autumn and Winter.
