To treat spontaneous sweating caused by excessive dampness, deficiency of Wei Qi (Defensive Qi), and exterior deficiency unable to withstand external cold.
Suanmu (Lignum Sappan), Honghua (Flos Carthami) (each 1 fen above); Zhuling (Polyporus), Maidong (Radix Ophiopogonis), Shengdihuang (Radix Rehmanniae Recens) (each 3 fen); Banxia (Rhizoma Pinelliae Preparatum, washed seven times with decoction); Sheng Huangqin (Radix Scutellariae Recens), Sheng Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Recens), Danggui Shao (Apex Radix Angelicae Sinensis) (each 5 fen above).
Qianghuo (Rhizoma et Radix Notopterygii) (7 fen); Mahuang Gen (Radix Ephedrae), Huangqi (Radix Astragali) (each 1 qian above); Wuweizi (Fructus Schisandrae) (7 pieces).
Crush the herbs into pieces the size of hemp seeds. Prepare as one dose, add two zhan of water, boil until one zhan remains, remove dregs, and take slightly warm. In stroke syndrome, spontaneous sweating is inevitable; since profuse sweating precludes further diaphoresis, Mahuang (Herba Ephedrae) is contraindicated, and its root nodes are used instead.
Between the sixth and seventh months, the damp command prevails greatly. The "child" organ enriches the "mother" organ, leading to flourishing heat. Damp-heat combines and attacks Geng Metal, which corresponds to the Large Intestine; therefore, cold-natured medicines are employed to rescue it.
The Dryness Metal is afflicted by damp-heat pathogens, severing the source of generation for Cold Water. When the source is severed, Kidney deficiency ensues, and Wei Jue syndrome (flaccidity and cold extremities) erupts severely. The lower waist becomes flaccid and paralyzed, immobile, gait is abnormal, and both feet deviate. Qingzao Tang (Clear Dryness Decoction) is the primary formula.
Huanglian (Rhizoma Coptidis, removing stamens), Jiuhuangbai (Cortex Phellodendri prepared with wine), Chaihu (Radix Bupleuri) (each 1 fen above); Maidong (Radix Ophiopogonis), Danggui Shen (Body Radix Angelicae Sinensis), Shengdihuang (Radix Rehmanniae Recens), Zhigancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparated), Zhuling (Polyporus), Qu (Medicated Leaven) (each 2 fen above); Renshen (Radix Ginseng), Bai Fuling (Poria cum Risus)
Crush the herbs into pieces the size of hemp seeds. Take half a liang per dose, add two and a half zhan of water, boil until one zhan remains, remove dregs, take slightly warm on an empty stomach.
To treat post-onset eye disease characterized by upper heat congestion, redness of the sclera (white part of the eye), excessive discharge and tearing, without pain but with heaviness, astringency, and difficulty opening. This results from excessive use of bitter-cold medicines, preventing Zhen Qi (True Qi) from unblocking the nine orifices, causing blurred vision. It is suitable to employ methods to tonify Yang, harmonize blood, and supplement Qi.
Xiang Baizhi (Radix Angelicae Dahuricae) (2 fen); Manjingzi (Fructus Viticis) (3 fen); Zhigancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparated), Danggui Shen (Body Radix Angelicae Sinensis, washed with wine), Chaihu (Radix Bupleuri) (each 5 fen above); Shengma (Rhizoma Cimicifugae), Fangfeng (Radix Saposhnikoviae) (each 7 fen above); Huangqi (Radix Astragali) (1 qian).
Crush the herbs. Prepare all as one dose, add one and a half zhan of water, boil until one zhan remains, remove dregs, take hot before retiring. Sleep in a wind-sheltered place; avoid wind-cold and consume no cold foods.
