To treat facial paralysis (Koujie), with stiffness and tightness in the cheeks and jaw, excessive fire in the Stomach, inevitably leading to continuous sweating and frequent urination.
Honghua (Carthami Flos), Jiuhuangbai (Phellodendri Cortex prepared with wine), Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus) [each 1 fen]; Shenggancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Sumu (Sappan Lignum) [each 5 fen]; Zhigancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma prepared with honey) [1 qian]; Gegen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix) [1 qian 5 fen]; Dangguishen (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Huangqi (Astragali Membranacei Radix) [each 2 qian].
Decoct the above ingredients. Prepare as a single dose, using three large bowls of wine, decoct until one bowl and two fen remain, strain, and take slightly warm before meals. After taking the medicine, apply heat and massage the stiff and knotted areas until recovery. Facial paralysis causing tendon stiffness indicates extreme cold in the tendons, vessels, and collaterals; this formula replaces the method of burning needles and piercing blood to remove coagulation, internally clearing the blazing fire of the Chong Mai (Penetrating Vessel).
To treat deficiency wind syndrome, where the patient can eat, experiences numbness, trismus (lockjaw), internal trembling of the eyeballs, wind in the Stomach, and isolated facial swelling.
Manjingzi (Vittadiniae Fructus), Ganshengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens dried), Caodoukou (Amomi Fructus Rotundus), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex), Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), Bencao (Ligustici Wallichii Rhizoma et Radix) [each 3 fen]; Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba, stems not removed) [5 fen]; Dangguishen (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), Gegen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix) [each 1 qian]; Xiangbaizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix) [1 qian 2 fen]; Zhigancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma prepared with honey) [1 qian 5 fen]; Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma) [2 qian]; Zaoju (Jujubae Fructus) [4 pieces].
Chop the above ingredients into particles the size of hemp seeds. Divide into two doses. For each dose, use two bowls of water, decoct until one bowl remains, strain, and take hot after meals.
Someone asked: Are dampness and sweat Yin or Yang? The answer is: The southwest corresponds to Kun Earth, which governs the Spleen and Stomach. Human sweat is like the rain of heaven and earth. Yin nourishes dampness, forming mist, dew, and rain. Yin-damp-cold is the Qi of the descending earth. Excessive sweating leads to the loss of Yang Qi; when Yang departs, Yin prevails, potentially leading to Cold in the Middle Jiao. Dampness prevailing causes the voice to sound as if coming from an urn, similar to being submerged in water. Physiognomists say that the "Earth tone" sounds like speaking from within a deep urn, describing obstruction, distance, and lack of resonance, confirming it as dampness. Furthermore, these two are both Yin-Cold. The *Neijing* states: "Qi deficiency leads to external cold." Although heat in the interior may be seen, with steaming heat and sweating, it ultimately transmits to severe cold. Knowing that it begins as Heat in the Interior, with exterior deficiency and loss of Yang, unable to resist external cold, it ultimately transmits to Cold in the Middle, often resulting in Bi syndrome with cold. Complexion is used to observe Heaven (upper/Yang), pulse to observe Earth (lower/Yin). Form is used to observe the Yin and Yang of Earth; thus, observing through pulse and climate reveals both visible forms and invisible characteristics.
