There are two methods for taking *Weilingxian* (Clematis Root). (Another note states: Mix high-quality *Weilingxian* with *Niuxi* (Achyranthes Bidentata Root), adjusting the amount of *Niuxi* based on the patient's deficiency or excess of Qi. Soak *Niuxi* in wine and bake until dry. Both herbs should be ground into fine powder; they can be made into pills or powders, using a wine-boiled wheat paste as a binder for the pills.)
The first method: Thoroughly wash the herb and dry it in the shade, then crush and sieve it into powder. Mix with the powder of *Niuxi* soaked in wine. It can be formed into honeyed pills or used as a powder. Take it mixed with wine. The amount of *Niuxi* should be increased or decreased according to the patient's constitutional deficiency or excess. A relative from Meizhou suffered from severe Hong Kong Foot (podagra/gouty arthritis affecting the foot); after following this method for half a year, he was permanently cured.
The second method: Select herbs of medium thickness and cut them into one-cun segments. Every seven cun constitutes one packet. Prepare three hundred and sixty packets annually and keep them by the bedside. At dawn (Wugeng), face east and chew one packet slowly until saliva fills the mouth, then swallow. A monk from Laoshan, over one hundred years old, climbs up and down mountains with agility like flying, claiming to have obtained this prescription. Both methods emphasize obtaining the authentic herb as the priority. Authentic *Weilingxian* has five verification signs: 1. Extremely bitter taste; 2. Deep black color; 3. Breaks crisply without flexibility; 4. The dust from breaking resembles *Huhuanglian* (Coptis Chinensis Rhizome); 5. The broken end shows a black-and-white halo, called "Quyu Yan" (Myna Eye). Without these five signs, it is merely a thin root of inferior quality. Tea must be avoided during consumption. (Another note states: If taking this medicine regularly, substitute tea with soap pod and locust tree buds. Use very tender buds, briefly boil in water for one boil. Remove, wrap in cloth, press dry, and bake with gentle heat; the effect is equivalent to drinking tea.)
Prepare very tender locust tree buds and soap pods according to the method for making grass tea. Alternatively, use the formula for tea substitute from *Waitai Miyao* (Essential Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold for Emergency Emergencies) and take it regularly.
*Ziwan* (Aster Tataricus Root), *Jiegeng* (Platycodon Grandiflorus Root), *Cangzhu* (Atractylodes Lancea Rhizome), *Shaoyao* (Paeonia Lactiflora Root) (equal parts)
Grind the above herbs into fine powder. For each dose, take four qian, along with half a sheep liver. Slice with a large bamboo knife, do not let it touch water, and do not allow the blood to scatter. Cook thoroughly with salt, vinegar, green onion, ginger, and wine. Take on an empty stomach before meals, three times a day. Song Jun, the Magistrate of Gushu, contracted Shanghan (Cold Damage Syndrome). After recovery, his feet were reduced to bone structure, unable to stand. After taking this remedy, muscle growth was observed. Within one to two months, he fully recovered to his previous state.
